Just sayin' but ... you can't have a go at them for not wearing seatbelts where as the '97 year-old' who died was because of internal injuries. which are well known to be caused by seatbelts.
I been driving an 18 wheeler over 25 years. Till this day I don't know why these old people go out on bad roads like that when they don't have to? I have seen blizzard conditions before and I seen some dingbat go out and cause a fatal crash just to feed some birds. what an idiot.
this streach of elmwood is dangerous..my co-worker was t'boned just last week by some bitch texting on her phone while turning into pinetree trailorpark..something has to be done or we are gonna be seeing more clips of scenes like this..RIP Marie McDonald
When you grow up on roads like those you learn to drive the speed limit or better. Everybody is in a rush, you can't slow down as fast, accidents occur. You learn to stay off the brake.
I was in an accident in that vary spot a few years ago because someone was looking at the lights not paying any attention to where they were going. In this case, yes the roads were poor, BUT im pretty sure someone might have been looking at the display. Thats just my thought.
A sad update: Marie McDonald (the 97-year old) passed away last night from internal injuries sustained in the accident. Family member contacted me with this update Dec 14th 08
It probably WAS the poor road conditions that caused the accident (I too have a scanner, I heard the Mountie requests as well), but we don't know for sure. And, it doesn't take away from the fact that cars do stray from their lane when gawking at the Xmas display. I wish it wasn't so, but I believe there will be more video from this location.
I can see bad accidents when the roads are really bad and during and just after a storm no matter how much snow, but this day I was up at 4am the snow stopped at 5am and at 11am roads still not salted. No excuse for this at all and someone had to die because of salting is just wrong.
I also drive by here at least twice a day. It pains me to say that I agree that the light show is a hazard. It's a beautiful display that one can tell comes straight from the heart of its creator. It gives joy to thousands. However, cars that drive by are all over the road. The display has become too much of a distraction. Maybe it could be moved to Centennial park of some other safe location?
it wasn't that nice display that caused accident it was the ice on the roads because the city didn't get salt trucks out. Ask the RCMP they complained about it all day right into the evening.
There was 5 ambulances called in, firetrucks..etc...took them 2 1/2 hours to get one person out of their vehicle...then when we were en route to the hospital in the ambulance, the ambulance slipped and slid the whole way there...not right at all!!!
our truck is wrote off and we are in pretty bad shape...our dog was with us as well and is still at the vets office..she had to have surgery on her hip...and there is no reason what so ever that the plows were not out...no excuse whats so ever...that is what our taxes are for.
I agree totally, my husband and I and my step daughter were in a horrible crash last night because of the roads..a guy lost control and came into our lane..we hit him dead on then another vehicle came up and hit us and then hit the other guy..
Is it just me or was that accident in front of the house that has all those decorations every year? That strech of road is a death trap because people do not pay attention to the road, they just stare at the decorated yard. Many years I almost got into an accident in that same spot.
it was a girl

Sorry they died, but were the deceased wearing seat-belts?
These impacts appear not severenough to cause death to restrained occupants.
Can't blame the road.
People must slow and adjust to whatever the conditions are.

If time and lives are really important for them, they should install, with their car, the anti-skid tool , which might cost two thou.

The dead were not wearing seatbelts. They thought that god alone could always save them. God is busy

Tragedy, I would just not drive in those conditions it's probably too risky. I hope we don't get storms like that here in SoCal.
