This film still gives me goosebumps. Camerons authentically dark and gritty environment is engrossing, as are the casts portrayal of a terrified but clear thinking team. Key to the success was that the special effects team successfully nailed showing the aliens as gracefully quick, naturally fluid and oppressively powerful. The perfect blend for Sci-fi horror.

The original Alien film was the best of the quadrilogy by far and to this date think it is the most revolutionary science-fiction film of all-time, a visionary masterpiece. It was our immense fear fostered by the first film that allowed the franchise to begin forming in the first place, and boy I'm glad it did! I'm a ALIEN geek!

There is something special about Ripley. Maybe its her "BLOODLINE" or they choose her to SACRAFICE her for this SUPERIORBEING to be made in Alien Resurrection that she becomes. Weyland was behind it the entire time. Weyland was around in current time in AVP which was before SPACE SHIPS were made to colonize planets.

PREDATORS never liked the Aliens. We hunted them haha. The ALIENs needed a host, it was "HUMANS". Its like HUMANs are a disease.

Ah yes, i remembered when i was a kid seeing this movie in theaters with my big brother and my dad, brings back memories and one of the first R-rated films i ever saw in theaters, that kicks ass. I even watched Alien the next year on video and got hooked into the universe, i even collected the action figures, had the comics and a poster magazine to Aliens as a kid even played that sweet arcade game. I want Angry Video Game Nerd to review the Alien universe games before the prequel comes out.

colinisbatman, Ridley Scott directed Alien and Blade Runner. I think they are both very good movies. I think Alien may be Scott's best film, next to Gladiator. But, they are NOT the greatest films, period.

There are clearly 2 schools of thought for fans of the Alien(s) franchise- those who loved alien and are waiting for Prometheus and those (like me) who still regard Aliens as the benchmark for action/sci fi excellence. Clearly the former love the horror/suspense setting while the latter enjoy the action(and also the best screenplay and dialogue writing in any sci fi movie)

And that is why i believe that Hicks,Hudson,Vasquez etc can kick the Space Jockey's Ass anyday..

I liked this move okay because of Sigourney , but Alien is one of the greatest movies ever, this is like Cameron inherited the idea and just went "lets get a bunch more aliens and they also copied the robot scene again..Sequels just aren't needed.

This was a terrible sequel. It was made for people who want more emotion, more explosions, more noise, and more, bigger aliens, and one-liners. Newt's there merely to make Ripley more motherly and palatable, but Newt's incessant, prolongued, static screaming really dominates the film and kills the tension. The aliens appear too much. The chillingly soulless Ash is replaced by hapless Burke. The sets are horribly cluttered compared to the cool, beautiful, minimalist sets of 1979. I liked Bishop!

In a deleted scene, Ripley learns that she was in the escape pod for 50 years. During that 50 years her daughter grows old an dies. Ripely cries and reflects on how she promised to be there for her daughters birthday.

Taking that into account, you begin to realize that Ripley was so attached to Newt because of the loss of her own daughter. Ripley remembers the promise she didn't keep with her old daughter, making her even more committed to keep her promises to Newt.

Newt wasn't put in the movie " merely to make Ripley more motherly and palatable". To Ripely, Newt almost served as a replacement daughter, and a way to make up for failing to be there for her real kid. Shit's pretty deep yo.

I don't know why the scene was cut, because it makes the whole Newt-Ripley relationship allot less bland and gimmicky.

If we're discussing Alien movies, Alien and Aliens are by far the two best. Alien was great for its slasher horror film set in space. Aliens was great for its action sequences and still frightning ideas about the new species. However, as far as AVP is concerned, I liked the second one better. In that movie, humans were doing what they were meant to do in an AVP movie, become casualites.

The first two movies are by far the best in the series, but I don't understand all the hatred for Alien 4 or the first Alien vs. Predator movie. Were they great? No, but they were both better than Alien 3 (everything was... wrong) or Alien vs. Predator 2 (quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen).

@ThePaisleyJaggerwock You have to cut Alien 3 some slack because 20th century fox basically fucked themselves up by not allowing a genius filmmaker (David Fincher) to work his magic. Even further than that, it's Fox's fault for even starting without a solid script. I quite like Alien 3 actually. I dare say that it was the most visually unique of them all, and I think killing Ripley is the best ending any possible Alien 3 could ever have. Alien Resurrection started out wrong by bring Ripley back.

And it doesn't help that the only person on the planet that's actually a good person dies halfway through. With Alien Resurrection, they did the best they could with what they had to work off of. I personally like it. It has the same "let's kick some Alien ass" vibe Aliens did. Plus it feels a bit like Firefly with Aliens.

@kallemick To make the plot deeper than just a a shallow action movie. Ripley lost her daughter after being lost in space and felt an obvious attachment to Rebecca. Eventually Ripley, Rebecca and Hicks made a sort of family by the end of the film. And THAT is why Alien 3 sucked so hard, it ruined the perfect ending of Aliens, it made all the efforts to keep Hicks and Rebecca alive totally pointless.

While this is probably my favorite sci-fi future movie, and definitely in my top 20 list ever, couldn't Jurassic Park be an equal, or perhaps superior movie? I mean, the raptors and the xenomorphs aren't too different, (except acid blood, and some freaky reproduction methods)

and there are also some good lines in Jurassic Park, though, true, not quite as good. Anyways, any scene with Michael Biehn in it was my favorite scene.
