This is mostly due to the fact that the black middle class has grown considerably in the past 20-30 years. With about 23-25% of black Americans being middle class and 3.5% of black Americans being rich the black birth rate is slowing since middle class populations tend to have less kids. The Hispanic birth rate is significantly higher due to most Hispanics being Catholic.

I'm proud that I was born into a poor family and am now in top 2% of US wage earners. I'm proud of my in laws--that they grew up in dirt floor huts in the Caribean, put themselves through college in North America, and had a household income well the into 6 figures when they retired. I have said this to my American Latino friends, that we Europeans do not understand when a white Mexican does not class himself as white? We have Italians, Romanians, Spanish, Greek all with dark skin, yet they are classed as white. I too am of mixed European dissent. Spanish/English/Roma, but I am still classed as white.

Another was completed by the World public opinion dot org, which is managed by the "Program on International Policy Attitudes" of the University of Maryland.
