I don't really blame Luffy as much as I blame the story writer for not using that battle as a chance to show the audience more of Luffy's Haki. I don't really blame Luffy, that's why I wrote forgive me for it.

@TheViewerXD Personally, I think Luffy's failure would've been dramatically superior to him suddenly using Haki. Haki would've immediately registered as Deus ex Machina (IE the writer pulls an excuse for his hero not to die out of his derriere). A loss was inevitable if he fought, and his willingness to attack Magellan and sacrifice his arms highlighted just how much he loved Ace and was willing to sacrifice for him.

@TheViewerXD Furthermore, him suddenly using Haki wouldn't have worked out very well due to the fact that, hey, he doesn't know how to use it. He only used it on accident during this Saga, and even then he didn't even seem to be aware of it.

In the end Luffy never did beat Magellan. I kinda like that. There's an enemy that Luffy couldn't beat, and it makes it much more nerve wracking knowing he can actually lose a battle.

@mimi565657 That was a bit different. They were caught by surprise, worried about Robin, and Luffy never really got going. Against Magellan Luffy went all out, he was super determined like every other battle where he would win at the end. It had much more of an impact for me.

@oMuStIiA Even if Luffy had been at his best he would not have been able to beat Aokiji. Aokiji's an Admiral on par with Whitebeard's commanders. He managed to fight Ace to a draw and beat Diamond Jozu. Luffy was nowhere near Aokiji's league at the time he fought him. Heck, he's still probably not quite there yet, as the recent chapter only seems to put him at around Jinbei's level.

@1nvader92 Luffy still got away from Smoker, because of his dad but still, and Aokiji and Kuma were more benevolent and let him go or helped him. Magellan utterly and totally defeated Luffy, and then even after he recovered he could only hold Magellan off while they escaped. I guess Kizaru had the same sort of thing going, but he was going after Zoro, and Rayleigh and Kuma came to the rescue. Those were losses, whereas this was a defeat. At least that's how I view it.

His body is just covered and didn't become poison. But i actually wonder that poison can hurt someone through your skin. This poison-stuff seems more like acid then poison.

There are some which are skin contact and seep into the body, such as the poison arrow frog's venom. Being coated in all that toxin was most likely seeping into his skin, which is why it burned so bad.
