  • Is not the human brain marvelous in conception and execution?

We take it for granted, but (so far) human music is unique.

  • I actually like this version more than Argerich, because Argerighc's own is so fast that it's not that easy to enjoy the piece... But I guess this is a pure matter of opinion (emotion vs technique etc.)

  • @stumppi yea opposite for me, I prefer the tempo faster. Faster not necessarily means more technique nor less emotion.

  • I realize more than most will know how important passion is in a performance, but where I lack technical ability my sister is a technical master....this fellow is super...some think you're not brilliant at what you do if you don't look like you're having a stroke on stage!!

  • I have no words. Wow. And he's just a baby!

  • The conductor's not using a baton!

  • Did he win the competition? best Tchaikovsky rendition I ever heard lol

  • Our pianist is awesome she already has her music memorized and we havent even had our first football game

  • @lukatuna13 LOOOOL

  • This song is in our marching band show

  • Great performance. Please continue to play xx century composers: that's your style. Don't play Chopin

  • That guy has Chopin hands....perfect for anything Prokofiev...

  • bad cameraman

  • awesome job, I hope he won the competition.

  • @bervy8

If this is the 13th. The winner was Miroslav Kultyshev.

(And why did this guy pick a Yamaha if he could have had a Steinway?)

  • @CodyNelsonMusic Yamaha's are a fine instrument too

  • Did he perform the other movements?

  • wow pianist is pretty young!

  • Wow,tough piece. Lots of work involved to play this. And the pianist did an excellent job.

  • wow reminds me of prokofiev sinfonia concertante for cello in a way ....

  • Everybody loves sinus problems in a performance.

  • peace of shit

  • he is the best

  • The best! The winner !!!!

  • gorgeous performance, just as much as Prokofiev has to sound.

  • I like this pianist!

  • La rompe! Jaja

  • i like this cameraman. he focuses on everything but the keyboard

  • As good as this is, does anyone come even close to Martha?

  • @MarcusAnthonyDowns Nobody is better than Martha!!! :D

  • @MarcusAnthonyDowns Nobody is better than Martha!!! :D

  • adored*

  • And okay pianist... rather mechanical playing at times, when it could be very lyrical

  • @Sepharite i have to agree. His technique is wonderful and his percussive playing is so accurate and clean but i feel like he could treat the legato lines with more care. Prokofiev, whilst wild and nuts is also stunningly beautiful and the longer lines need to be an echoing of the strings and woodwind that prokofiev addord so much :). Fantastic performance though and a really well thought out approach :D

  • @truthkillz666 I absolutely agree with you!

  • Amazing performance! Bravissimo!!

  • OMG this guy is fantastic! I want to play like he does :D

  • wow he's really good!

  • He's so incisive and to-the-point that the energetic parts to seem mechanical instead of electric. For instance, from 1:30 to 1:54, those chords are incredibly staccato; they lack the drama and urgency with which Prokofiev infused them. There's no doubting his technical proficiency, but if he wants to be one of the great pianists of his generation, he'll have to do more than just play the notes accurately. If you compare this with Argerich, the difference in vitality is massive.

  • @ProRachStravinsKiev I usually don't like negative comments, but you're so right

  • @MrYou2ber Thanks! I think he'll be phenomenal one day, but it does take a lot of emotional maturity to get Prokofiev right.

  • @ProRachStravinsKiev Hey isn't this guy competing in the upcoming Tchaikovsky Competition once again? He's listed as one of the competitors! I wonder how he'll do: I will be closely watching him through the web cast

  • @ProRachStravinsKiev exactly!

  • I don't know this young man, but he's very good, YES, VERY CLEAN YET POWERFUL. Captivating first movement. A bravo.

  • yes! i love Lubyantsev, i listen to him play on his youtube account all the time!

  • Wonderful ! ! ! I love the pianist ! ! !

  • einfach nur geil!!!

  • awesome, plus his presence add more to the performance .. what a beautiful pianist...

  • hmm hes playing prokofiev at a tchaikovsky competition?

  • @sodom87 All finalists must play a Tchaikovsky concerto and another one of competitor's choice.

  • thats one of the pianists of the new generation. He will be on the top in futur if he continues to study like that.

  • The the pianist piss off the producers? Cuz evidently, they don't think he's the star. Plays great, though.

  • the three people who did not like this preformance have to give 3 reasons to convince me that this preformance is bad. otherwise, they have to fix their brain.

  • @mcuyamaca defintly-- i played the castanet part in this song,, great peice

  • Show the f**ing pianist for gods sake haha

  • Fantastic performance !

  • very true

  • He doesn't seem to be nervous

  • Very good!!) One of my favourite pieces of Prokofiev!

  • Very good performance.

  • this is a strong pianist very well, I love the performance.

  • Very well! Has he got a web site?

  • He played really well.

  • not very emotional there, but pretty good playing, it's not an easy piece

  • i'm learning this piece

i'm halfway through it by now. :)

  • Have you been doing 4 and a half hours a day for a summer, like Prokofiev?!

  • Okay, what exactly was wrong with my comment?

I just finished LEARNING the 1st mvmt this summer. LEARNING is different that POLISHING it. Of course, I'm not playing it perfectly. I'm not a professional pianist yet, so what exactly are you expecting of me? I'm just a regular 16 year old high school student.

  • There was nothing wrong with the comment! I didn't give it a bad rating! I was being a mock-teacher, not finding fault with you or your work-load. I am aware that note-learning is different from polishing. I may be a mere regular 15 year old high school student, but I'm no ignoramus. Christ, I have no idea why you freaked out like that.

  • Etude12, i can tell you why chrissy "freaked out" with your comment. While it may not have been ill-intentioned, there is simply SO MUCH negativity floating around when it comes to commenting on classical music performance YT vids. Look around if you don't believe me. Good on ya both for being teens with such a keen interest in classical music, though! :-)

Good for you especially, Chrissy - it's an awesome piece!!

  • very very good.

  • Why is the Miroslav Prokofiev been taken off?

  • So many Miroslavs videos has been taken off... :(

  • i know, but theres a bunch up now! just search miroslav tchaikovsky or miroslav prokofiev :)

  • Because the people commenting on here are highly likely to hunt him down and make their affections known? Idiot.

  • too static ;(

  • He is pretty. 8D

  • for mr bean

  • rarely do you find such an outstanding good-looking pianist

    :P

  • looks like mr bean!

  • no he doesn't!

  • This dude is a beast at piano...

  • he was the winner?

  • No, he came 3rd behind Miroslav Kultyshev in a debatable decision, (there was no 1st prize awarded).

  • PLEASE UPLOAD WHOLE CONCERTO PLAYED BY Alexander Lubiantsev

  • This guy kicks piano ass...

  • What a WONDERFUL performance of this piano concerto!

But eh ... Without image it would even be better; the conductor is TERRIBLE to watch, but the orchestra sounds nice so he is skilfull does not know how to move his arms.

The pianist is also not a show man; pity, because he is probably one of the best performers!

  • Stop watching...music is for the ears NOT the eyes.

  • Sometimes the charisma can help.

  • He's very good looking, indeed.

  • This guy is the handsome most pianist I'VE ever seen... He is as hot as his performance... ORGASMIC!!!

  • lol. yes but a serious musician too.

  • You're absolutely right! It's almost unfair someone so talented could be hot as f***! And Russian too! GRRRR...

  • In april I visited his piano concert at St.Petersburg, and I was lucky to get his autograph. That was wonderful, unforgettable evening. Bravo Alexander! Thank you very much

  • This is my favourite concerto!! never a dull moment :) does anyone have the vids to the 2nd and 3rd mvts?

  • Great! The middle section is wonderfully clear, better than most recordings.

  • È il primo pezzo di Prokofiev che abbia ascoltato davvero, e mi piace sempre di più!

Mitico! Un giorno lo suonerò .. o altrimenti lo fischio

  • I love this Movement, what a finale!

  • echipafantoma, would you mind pointing out all the 'little insignificant mistakes' that my untuned ear could not hear? i thought that it was quite a nice interpretation of a very technically challenging piece. Well done chief!

  • Awesome piece, awesome performance.

  • i don't know why exactly, but i love this interpretation ! (just forget all those little insignificant mistakes)

  • Anybody who has tried to play this piece knows how virtuosic it is. The first part anybody ever tries, of course, is that fantastic allegro. Any amount of expressiveness at that velocity is rare; Lubiantsev's rendering is manful and more than sufficient for its purposes.

Badmouth this performance at your own risk!

  • you are so good

  • too slow

  • yes!

  • I think it's a very good interpretation.

  • great piece... good interpretation

  • I like it but, I like it with a little bit more fire.

  • very good, last saw him at sydney international - huge improvement

  • Sorry, that's all.

  • @naiki9 This is a very neat performance; very clean but powerful.

  • @naiki9 why? Maybe you could get other parts? :)

  • d'you have the other movements? he plays this pretty well
