Webern's music shows so much intelligence. He alone proves to "atonal/serialist haters" that there is thought that goes into his music. The first movement is basically a canon between pairs of instruments. There are palindromes throughout this symphony especially in the second movement where every variation is a palindrome and every variation is only 11 measures long.
I enjoy this so much more than post Webern twelve tone. Sometimes tempo is too fast and chords too dense. I cant feel each tone, nor the interval, when its too fast and dense. Though Webern's form is insuperable, that is the reason for which the next generation of serialists had to compose in such different way.
And this piece has an appearance from King Violonce the second and a half. He would have kept his last name the original spelling, but found that it only ever got him dirty looks.

He is truly unbelievable, a genius.

The second movement of this is a complete eargasm!

For me, Webern was the most evocative of the twelve-tone composers. Truly a magician with an orchestra.

The section starting at M 46 of the first movement is simply wonderful...one of Webern's finest harmonic moments, I think. Thanks for making this!
