So why not just say the weight is 154, but he's only allowed to come into the ring at 164. Stipulations like that have been done before. Margarito weighed 165 the night of the fight so its reasonable.
@akosihelbert I'd just like to see Pacquaio continue to challenge himself. The all-time greats like Henry Armstrong and Sugar Ray Robinson continued to chellenge themselves with in surmountable odds. Even Sugar Ray Leonard moved up to middleweight to fight Hagler when people thought Hagler would kill him. I'd like to see Manny achieve that status. I'd rather see him fight martinez and lose, then fight guys that are not at his level and frankly other than Floyd, nobody at 147 is at his level.

That's why he keeps getting big fights despite being obviously passed it. Marquez couldn't get a name cuz none of the big names wanted to fight him back in the day. Morales, Barrera, and Prince Hamed straight up ducked him in the early 2000's. You can't become a big name unless people are willing to fight you.

The amatuer program is very under developed there and most these guys need the money early. JMM might be bitter, he truly believes he won both fights. @akosihelbert Well he wasn't as popular cuz early on in his career he didn't fight a "Mexican style". He was a counterpuncher and as good as he was, that didn't appeal to Mexican fans. But later in his career he started being more offensive and trading shots with guys and while that has gave him more fans, its also made him more vulnerable. Just look at the Diaz and Katsidis fights. I think for this fight he has to go back to his old counterpunching style to win. He can't go toe to toe.

@akosihelbert Well I don't think either has the intention of losing. They made both fights that look good on paper. Ortiz is a young hungry champ, but has some obvious weaknesses that Floyd knows and can take advantage. Pacquaio knows Marquez is tough, but also knows Marquez is not at his peak anymore. I think both guys put on good performances and sets up the fight quite nicely for next year.

I get what Garcia is saying here. However, it is unheard of bigger fighters moving down weight classes to fight the champions there. Martinez needs to go up in weight and fight the guys up there. @blaq7427 He found out during the fight that he was too big for him. He said it right after the fight. He still battered him because he's brilliant. But fighting other fighters at the same weight or even higher could be very dangerous, Manny can only get up to around 147 anyway.

@akosihelbert That's because 154 is the absolute lowest Martinez can get down to. He hasn't fought below 154 in over 10 years. Thats what they made Oscar do. At any rate, it ain't the weign-in Pac and company are worried about. It's what Martinez would be weighing the night of the fight. So why not just say the weight is 154, but he's only allowed to come into the ring at 164. Stipulations like that have been done before. Margarito weighed 165 the night of the fight so its reasonable.

@akosihelbert I'd just like to see Pacquaio continue to challenge himself. The all-time greats like Henry Armstrong and Sugar Ray Robinson continued to chellenge themselves with in surmountable odds. Even Sugar Ray Leonard moved up to middleweight to fight Hagler when people thought Hagler would kill him. I'd like to see Manny achieve that status. I'd rather see him fight martinez and lose, then fight guys that are not at his level and frankly other than Floyd, nobody at 147 is at his level.

and manny proved a lot in his career already..knocking out the great morales for the first time, blemish the record of lucero and seung who were both undefeated for both conquer and defense of world titles, and particularly the only (not just asian) but the only boxer to have 8 titles in different divisions..

@akosihelbert Mosley didn't establish a name? He's one of the most well known boxers in the world. One of the few guys that even casual fans know. That's why he keeps getting big fights despite being obviously passed it. Marquez couldn't get a name cuz none of the big names wanted to fight him back in the day. Morales, Barrera, and Prince Hamed straight up ducked him in the early 2000's. You can't become a big name unless people are willing to fight you.

@akosihelbert Well the thing is most Mexicans turn pro at a very early age. Some of these guys are 15 fighting grown men. The amatuer program is very under developed there and most these guys need the money early. JMM might be bitter, he truly believes he won both fights. For the record I scored the first for him and the 2nd one for Manny. He's more bitter at the fact that in Mexico he's still not looked at the way people revere Morales and Barrera, let alone Julio Cesar Chavez.

@akosihelbert Well he wasn't as popular cuz early on in his career he didn't fight a "Mexican style". He was a counterpuncher and as good as he was, that didn't appeal to Mexican fans. But later in his career he started being more offensive and trading shots with guys and while that has gave him more fans, its also made him more vulnerable. Just look at the Diaz and Katsidis fights. I think for this fight he has to go back to his old counterpunching style to win. He can't go toe to toe.

i believe manny will kill him if he goes toe to toe with him at 145. but if he box..he will possibly win by points. but he's gonna have to do it 3 times more convincing than he did in 1st two fights or there's nothing he can do than cry that he got robbed.

@akosihelbert Well he's still been able to win fights, but he's taken alot of punishment in the process. Stylistically, he'll always give Manny a hard fight, but I think the combination of his age and putting on this extra weight combined wtithe improvements in Manny's game not to mention Manny's extra strength now having settled into the welterweight division, all spells an easy win for Manny. Just can't see him losing to anyone but Floyd at this point.

i believe the floyd-manny fight will happen. the only thing preventing it is when something goes wrong (pac loses to marquez or floyd loses to ortiz)

@akosihelbert Well I don't think either has the intention of losing. They made both fights that look good on paper. Ortiz is a young hungry champ, but has some obvious weaknesses that Floyd knows and can take advantage. Pacquaio knows Marquez is tough, but also knows Marquez is not at his peak anymore. I think both guys put on good performances and sets up the fight quite nicely for next year.
