lovely, but to be fair the original poem was a lament... when you listen to the lyrics that becomes clear... a more sombre tone would've been more aproppriate
The white swan, am eala bhan, I think both melodies are are excellent!!! no matters who is singing it, be it Julie Fowles, Donnie Munro Mairi McInnes, Capercaillie, the story behind it is haunting and heartwrenching.
Thank You so much for posting, This song was written for my great - grandmother (Margaret Mac Leod) and Im always looking for various recordings of it for my gran.
This is superb! Actually the way/tune it was written to be sung, although Tom Sloss sang the version we know and love like no one else, , RIP, lets enjoy it co-dhiu
I am afraid I must disagree. I have heard Calumn Kennedy,Hugh Matheson etc. I have never heard the song sung to this tune. But as you say lets enjoy it anyway.
This song can be heard on the album 'dual'. This album is a collaboration of Scottish and Irish music, looking at the strong links between the two traditions. Julie sings on this album along side the Irish singer Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, they are joined by Eamonn Doorley and Ross Martin. Great album!
Great, thanks! I was planning on getting that album anyways (just got into Julie a few weeks ago and got her other 2 albums) so I'll definitely pick it up ASAP.

This woman has one of the most beautifully expressive voices I've ever heard. Gives me chills up and down my spine.

I am afraid her interpritation of the tune does not do the song justice.Listen to Tom Sloss.

Hugh Matheson's is haunting, I will put it up when I can.
