We were at Silver Springs on Sunday 07/03/2011. I had been there 35 years ago as a child and it has always been a source of great memories for me. It was nice to see it still here entertaining people and giving them a glimpse of wonderful gardens, wildlife and old Florida. I loved it as much as ever.
Great place to visit, but be forewarned: The best day to go is in the middle of the week with NO holidays near. That way you don't have to put up with everyone's obnoxious child yelling, screaming and asking dumb questions every 2 seconds. I was almost tempted to throw a child AND their parents overboard to the alligators once.
once upon a time, a person could take their own boat up into the springs, common courtesy was to stay out of the area where they did the tours at the head, but the rest(99.999%) of the run was fair game seeing as it is "navigable waters" and was legally public domain. I spent many a day in silver run less then 1/2 mile from that spot just outside the park property.
haha...im going there today for my 7th grade field trip.....for like the 4th time...:( ....but it will be more fun this time cuz i have an awesome science teacher who will be more fun than all of the other years....:D
@mechanicanman01 It's good to see that parts of old Florida are still here. The Citrus Tower in Clermont, Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven, now under the LegoLand name but the Gardens and ski show will still be there, Bok Tower Gardens near Lake Whales, as well as Weekie Watchie springs. They're all still here proving that Disney didn't kill everything.
MY GRANDMA USED TO WORK THERE :D! she planted all the flowers in silver springs and worked for the green house.. she planted atleast over 1000 flowers a day :D but she retired, and ever sence then, the flowers have died and silver springs looks very dull :( and she retired in 2009 probly a month before new years :P
Years ago, my husband and I took a glass bottom boat ride in Wakula Springs, FL right after a bruising legislative session (I was a Legislative Aide). It was PERFECT - soothing, relaxing, completely de-stressing. Nice that we can always count on the wonders of nature to lift our spirits. PEACE TO ALL!
When i went on one of those boats i was soooooo scared to see how deep it was.And it started raining. when we were on one of the boats. But it was still really fun:)
I been there twice, once in 1987, another in 1991. Beautiful place. I remember dipping my cup right off the boat and drinking the water. By the time we got to the bank I had to run to a urinal fast. The water was so pure it goes right through you like beer. If you drank this water everyday it would prolly extend your life.
my sister went there for a field trip.she said that her and her friends made it fun, but its boring if theres no fun people to be with . and she said the people are a pain.
i love going on the glass bottomboats here ! me and my grandma go to silver springs every summer i go to her house , she lives 20 misn away from it , and i live like 2 hours away from her ! its so fun ! so many movies were made there !
really sad what this former natural attraction has desintegrated to. was a beautiful thing years ago. still a wonderous place, but what a ripoff, thanx to new ownership and (mis)-management.
Whoot! I'm flyin down to Florida tomorrow and this is one of my favorite things to do since I was about 4. :D They filmed Tarzan, Monster of the Black Lagoon, and that Bond movie.
Yep, they filmed Tarzan, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and I believe the Bond movie was Thunderbolt.
Here's something you may find interesting. One of the earlier owners thought it would be a great idea to bring in a pack f tree monkeys from Africa and put them on a island as an attraction. One problem, he didn't realize they could swim. So now that pack has grown into a family which has stayed in the area since swimming to freedom.
I believe so. Is he still saying that they filmed the James Bond movie "Moonraker" here? I tried to tell him I thought he was wrong as the Bond movie "Thunderbolt" was the movie where all the action sequences took place underwater.
No problem, glad you liked it. This was the first time I'd been there since I was a kid. They added a observation ride, a small kids area, plus alot of animal shows, a off road tour in a jeep, plus a few more boat tours. All in all, I was very pleased that this historic Florida attraction is still going. Silver Springs is actually owned by the state now, they just lease it out to a amusement park company.
This place looked like CRAP last time we went this year

Aren't there several statues at the bottom? What film was that from?
drummerboy398 1 year ago
@drummerboy398 Yeah, that's in part 2 and Silver Springs was used in filming the underwater sequences of a James Bond movie called Thunderbolt.
