looks real good you could also make it a clock radio(player) by making it a speaker to play music as well as tell time with your vista clockface.

Blue hand = Hours

Green hand = Minutes

Red hand = Seconds

The backgrounds with the white lines make it easier to tell the time but it can be figured out without a background present. The crazy spinning of the green and blue hands at 1:45 is him setting the clock using the remote.

@TheZenPerspective Not sure how many platters were used on this specific version, but from what I can guess, you have at least 2 platters, one to display, one to be they key/reflection platter. The top platter has a grove, which lets light go through it at certain intervals, determined by a PIC. Platters spin, an infrared sensor is triggered, which sends the platter position to the PIC, which lights the corresponding LEDs to make the light go through the grove at the correct intervals. I think.

@TheZenPerspective red green and blue leds are blinking verry fast in sync with the dark patch you see on the HDD's disk. You get the background using long pulses and the arrows with short pulses. Depending on the color you want you dimm or brighten the single colours in the moment you want and having in mind that the HDD motor is syncronous motor you know where the dark pach on the disk/mirror is. Cheapest display you can think of! ;)
