An explanation on religion, by me: The belief that a supernatural, non-existent being (or beings) made a planet within seven days. They then added two people to elope (a male and a female). But, in most religions it is a sin to have sex before marriage. Who says Adam and Eve were married eh? Apparently, Christianity was created by the king of the Jews (Jesus). OK, how come the Jews don't believe in this king? You people are fucked up...
I'd go into explaining it, but 1. no one will believe me with the number of chars I'm limited to and 2. it'll give you guys a great start on actually going out and researching facts to separate truth from fiction YOURSELF.

@avielMenter It's the same Christian theology as 1000 years ago. Nothing's changed, really. The bible is still full of rape and contradictions. It's still filled with fables and legends. I wasn't going for a full explanation on religion. To explain religion, I would need at least fifty pages! I was just barely scratching the surface of what religion is. It's not old Christian theology or new theology, It's theology like it was before and is now.

Additionally, the third quote from the verse that I mentioned from the Bible states " On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." So any law stating to kill someone for this and that would be negated. It's hoping that through love and forgiveness, people wouldn't do so many evil things. It wouldn't make sense to kill or steal from the ones you love. This world is full of hate after all.
I say to you that it's not religion or Atheism itself, it's those who abuse it. For instance, Matthew Ch.5 verse 43-48 states that you should love your enemies. Matthew Ch.7 verse 1-5 states that you should not judge others. Matthew Ch.22 verse 34-40 states that you shall love God and neighbor as yourself. Have you not heard of the 10 Commandments as well from Exodus Ch.20 verse 1-17? How many times have "Christians" failed (including myself), to obey these laws?

If some guy in a beard says to a bunch of horny youths that they'll get 72 virgins in paradise when they blow themselves up, then there's no possible argument based in religion to prove him wrong. The New Testament tells people to be loving and forgiving. The Westboro Baptist Church cannot justify their actions with one law from Leviticus or Deuteronomy because of the New Testament books such as Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and etc.

@lagerbaer The passage seems to talk about the past and how people chose to do things that were against the law ie Leviticus Ch.18 verse 1-30. The passage shows how evil people are but doesn't specifically state they should be killed. It does say that they do deserve to die but Paul does not order them to be killed. If the passage said you must immediately kill all the fornicators, then I would see a problem. I encourage you to find another passage from the New Testament.

It's not the religion completely at fault, it's those who use it to go too far. If there was no such thing as religion, people would still commit crimes but find different justifications for their actions.
The religious have done many things such as the Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, Salem Witch Trials(along with countless other witch burnings),and etc. Atheists have also done similar acts such as the Soviet Union banning Judaism and North Korea forbidding any religion. Here's a better idea: A world without the hateful and judgemental. Sure the religious fanatics have started it and atheists actually use reason but you are no better than an extremist if you have acted hatefully towards the religious or anyone. Other religions do get mocked. Christianity is the largest religion in the world and the number one religion in the U.S. The culture of the U.S. is shared by many around the world so you are more likely by sheer probability to encounter criticism of Christianity in popular culture. You also don't have as many Jews and Buddhists doing ridiculous things like taking evolutionary theory to courts or claiming they can "pray away the gay". They do it to themselves a lot of the time.

Additionally, the third quote from the verse that I mentioned from the Bible states " On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." So any law stating to kill someone for this and that would be negated. It's hoping that through love and forgiveness, people wouldn't do so many evil things. It wouldn't make sense to kill or steal from the ones you love. This world is full of hate after all.

I say to you that it's not religion or Atheism itself, it's those who abuse it. For instance, Matthew Ch.5 verse 43-48 states that you should love your enemies. Matthew Ch.7 verse 1-5 states that you should not judge others. Matthew Ch.22 verse 34-40 states that you shall love God and neighbor as yourself. Have you not heard of the 10 Commandments as well from Exodus Ch.20 verse 1-17? How many times have "Christians" failed (including myself), to obey these laws?

If some guy in a beard says to a bunch of horny youths that they'll get 72 virgins in paradise when they blow themselves up, then there's no possible argument based in religion to prove him wrong. Or take these bigots from the Westboro Baptist Church. They don't ABuse religion, they just USE it. The Bible is pretty clear on homosexuality, so they feel perfectly justified in their hate.

@lagerbaer Well I've never read the Quran so I can't say for sure about that. For the Westboro Baptist Church, they're obviously extreme hypocrites since they continue to hate. The New Testament tells people to be loving and forgiving. The Westboro Baptist Church cannot justify their actions with one law from Leviticus or Deuteronomy because of the New Testament books such as Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and etc.

@lagerbaer The passage seems to talk about the past and how people chose to do things that were against the law ie Leviticus Ch.18 verse 1-30. The passage shows how evil people are but doesn't specifically state they should be killed. It does say that they do deserve to die but Paul does not order them to be killed. If the passage said you must immediately kill all the fornicators, then I would see a problem. I encourage you to find another passage from the New Testament.

The religious have done many things such as the Crusades, Spanish Inquisition, Salem Witch Trials(along with countless other witch burnings),and etc. Atheists have also done similar acts such as the Soviet Union banning Judaism and North Korea forbidding any religion. Here's a better idea: A world without the hateful and judgemental. Sure the religious fanatics have started it and atheists actually use reason but you are no better than an extremist if you have acted hatefully towards the religious or anyone. For an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Both sides have done wrong and killed many. For many religious people, they have used God as an excuse. For atheists, science has been the reason. I'm not saying either is worthless or flawless.

Egyptian gods and godesses may have been a myth, but comparing it to the Christian/Catholic religion, at least it was more advanced.
Yes, they might have been wrong adoring Kings as Gods, but they also adored knowledge/Ancient Science(they had suberb knowledge in Astronomy, Medicine, Architecture, etc.) as the treasures of the Empire. Christianity/Catholism just adores a white guy, no signs of studying the planet.

Other religions do get mocked. Christianity is the largest religion in the world and the number one religion in the U.S. The culture of the U.S. is shared by many around the world so you are more likely by sheer probability to encounter criticism of Christianity in popular culture. You also don't have as many Jews and Buddhists doing ridiculous things like taking evolutionary theory to courts or claiming they can "pray away the gay". They do it to themselves a lot of the time.
