Probably a dumb question, but, do you know if this pedal would be good for a Death Metal kind of sound? I didn't get the kind of bass feel I was looking for with it.
@chez1117 Taste is subjective, some might think this could make a good death metal pedal and others would say no way.You also have to consider your guitar, pickups(active or passive)your amp and other things.I own a ton of distortion pedals(including the DOD Death Metal pedal)and have to you can get a really heavy sound from the Digitech Metal Master(which are pretty inexpensive)or you could try to find a discontinued Zoom pedal Tri-Metal which has a ton of gain with very little noise.
@chez1117 (cont) You can find it occasionally on Ebay from time to time for about $50-100.I know you were asking for someone else's opinion and not mine but I was just trying to give you some ideas.Whatever you do steer clear of Rocktron distortion pedals including the Zombie and the Metal Planet as they sound pretty thin.
right now, im using a boss ml-2 and i hate it with a burning passion. so im looking at this pedal, or the mxr fullbore. im looking for tones similar to August burns red, and more modern metal core. ive read some pretty bad things on the mxr but my friend keeps on vouching for it saying its great. please, i need help on this guys
What Kind Of Setup Are You Using? I'm About To Invest In A JCA100H and Blackstar Venue Cab. This Will Be My First Half Stack. Is That Distortion Pedal Engaged Over The Clean Channel Or Were You Playing Over A Dirty Channel On The Amp? And Do You Think It Necessary That I Get A Noise Gate Pedal To Use This? Cuz I've Been Told I'll Need To Get One. Please And Thanks Dude.
hey anyone know what the problem is? My pedal does not have the blue light on, my other pedals are working fine. I'm not too sure on how to replace batteries if this is the issue.
@BassManCoopz prolly just a dead battery and if so changing batteries is easy, just take the tip of your guitar cable and push in one of the release pins (these are on the upper corners of the sides of the part you step on) then the battery is right under it so just replace it and your good to go
I play alot of satriani/petrucci style rock. My metal zone is just too noisy and too one sided tone wise.. I really like the hardwire valve dist pedal... which has better shred lead tone.. this or the valve dist pedal??
@BodomBeachGuitarist I think I can do them pretty well, thanks. If you're asking about the pedal's ability to help deliver the same, my answer would be, yes, it's great, but you can get pinch harmonics from a clean setup too if your technique is up to it.
I have a Dean Razorback DB Floyd Lightning through Digitech Death Metal to Squier SP-10. I'm going for tighter, edgier, and more treble-sided tones like the ones from Cyanide, Ride the Lightning, All Nightmare Long, and Master of Puppets. Small amps happen to bring out tighter sounds but not tight enough. Please help.
@Zkr94 Low gain means cleaner sounds and low treble means loose tone. Maybe you're going for stuff like Black Label Society and Slayer? I'm going for Metallica sounds featured in Hit the Lights and Cyanide.
very nice demonstration and nice playing :) nice to see that i really can be used for shredding.. And it can also be plucked into computer?? How do you do that ??? or what's the easiest way I mean :D
@mistermiusikasdasd You could jack it into a computer via a sound card of some description. You'd need to have some amp simulation software like Amplitube on your computer though, or the results could be not quite what you hoped for.. Thanks for the kind words, BK.
Hey burgerman! I actually finally got one of these pedals but when i hit the pedal it only makes the volume louder, but no distortion. Do you have any ideas on what could be making this happen?
Thw guitar i am using is a Les Paul, and i am playing it through a Fender Super Champ XD on clean.
Please write back. I really want to see what this pedal can do! Thanks. : )
@airsoft4460 It sounds like there's something very wrong, to me. Best you contact Digitech and sort it out. I'm powerless - just an independent messenger. They won't even acknowledge my demos because they're concerned about copyright..
@Tranzorr Absomotherfuckinlutely! I have the same exact amp--try the highs (in o'clock) at 2:30, lows at 4:15, the mid at about 2:00, the freq at about 9:00 and the gain at about 1:15. If you want a cool Kill 'Em All tone just roll the freq to about 3-3:15 and the highs back to about 1:00. Metallica's EQ has always been about the same through all their albums, they just scooped their mids progressively through each album and then went back to the old school tone when the did Load.
@Tranzorr I got that tone after swapping out the stock tube with a Groove Tubes ECC83S and Replacing the speaker with an Eminence Ramrod (made a HUGE difference in tone). The whole job ran about $100 and took about 15 minutes. I definitely recommend the upgrade for that particular amp. My guitar is an Epiphone Explorer with an EMG 81/85 set, so the bridge pickup is the same as what Metallica uses. I hope my long-winded reply helps. Seriously though, buy this pedal and JUMP IN THE FIRE!
@spacemonkey1181 lol hmm this sounds very interesting, can you do a quick video of it? Some songs of Metallica's black album, riffs, verses, anything.
@Tranzorr Check out my video I just posted. I hope it helps give you some clue as to what you could get out of your amp, and perhaps make you go out and get one of these pedals if you haven't already! Please be kind, it's my first video.
@Pedrolovesdime Heheh. Thanks for the kind words. Just for the record though, I've never been paid by any of them. I do, however, get to keep the occasional pedal. This one included. :)
@TheMushroomDog The Metal Distortion is an unabashed rock monster so it will clean up a little, but not much and not real well (YMMV). Others may have different experiences but for mine, I can think of other pedals like the ProValve (LovePedal) that are filthy rock machines but have better clean up qualities. Cheers and thanks for the kind words.
I really dont use the loose mode on mine that much because im alwayz doing lead stuff. But i think ima mess around with the loose mode alil more, u make it sound good. Its a great pedal, i had it for a month now and i luv it. Nice demo my bro..
I'd love to hear this Digitech pedal in comparison to a Boss MT-2 Metal Zone with it's sweepable mid. I thought this pedal might be clone of the Metal Zone when I first saw it, but then I noticed the Tight/Loose switch.
I actually like this pedal, Burgs! Good tonal flexibility for the money. While you were playing, I thought that I heard a little "Bark at the Moon" solo going on? By the way; any chance you'll do some Fulltone reviews? Thanks for the great vids!
I've asked the Fulltone camp for some demo pedals for review - "Nope". God knows they could use some better demos for things like the Catalyst. I tried.. Sorry!

Best internet tone on this pedal I have heard.
Hardwire is so much better than one would think. So much better build and quality than little Boss that are NOT even true bypass!
A Fender Champ????? Why bother w pedals, the guitar and amp come first.

I'm quite curious to hear this from an alnico humbucker in a bridge position:
Level: 3
High: 11
Low: 9/8
Midrange: 6
Frequencies: 11
Gain: 11
Switch: Tight
I'm trying to get one of those "tight" sounds on Digitech Death Metal. Please help.

try this awesome setting please is the best sound of the TL-2:
Level: What you want I use it at 11.
high: 7
Low: 9
mid: 8
Freq: 11
Gain: 3 or 5
I use it to play metal core and if you want thrash or heavy metal just move the low Knob :)
Nice Les Paul :)
