  • anyone happen to know what type of drum is being played through the beginning? mucho gracias in advance

  • China Japan and Korea are like sister countries which they have similar pentatonic music, instruments even the style and tradition. A little bit of similarity.

Coz they are in east asian region.

  • @MsMysticworld Why they gotta be sister countries, huh?! SOOO racist.

Kidding. Every piece of music tells a story. From who the first tribes were, to the dynasties that arose, from the villages that our parents' ancestors came from. To think, all the people and all the hardships as well as all that man has gone through is secretly defined in the music we have created and passed on.

  • Bell'esempio di come si può fare grande musica in una splendida colonna sonora. GRAZIE!

  • technically the term ninja comes from japan, BUT, however ninja like people have existed within all cultures throughout history

  • They aren't warriors, they're walking weapons with emotional issues

  • @furosha Lol basically what the movie was built off and the book series.

  • I see the Real Culture of Japan,China where they give the Respect to Womens.Teaches Skills to defend them from bad Wishers .There dresses shows they were how much caring and Respect giving Nation once.

BUt lackaday, now they are wearing those dresses which are not respectable compare to old dresses.

Because it shows women as beautiful for men not respectable.

    Alas !

When Women will know to make themself ss RESPECTED,not for Giving herself to MEN for their wishes.

  • These are Martial Artists, warriors, you fools....

  • and i thought ninjas where spies and sometimes assasins to take out samurai mainly when they werent ready "meditating' because a ninja is nothing compared to a samurai 1on1 and they started in japan over 2000 thousand years of history

  • @Stoksie01 and neither one of the ninja nor the samurai were as awesome as the Chai...

  • This music is divine....

  • this is music I have never heard before (I mean than in a good way). Oohh, it's a capriccio( personal style). of course:)

  • 我愛這首歌

  • YO-YO MA'S CELLO IS THE ORICINAL GREEN DESTINY

  • Ninjas are from Japan no from China

  • @angelusote yeah japanese created ninjutsu (proper ninjas) whereas chinese ninjas use kung fu i think.

  • @pillok91

    ninjitsu was an indian concept/fantasy.

  • @Micklol wtf are you talking about? talk from your mouth, not your arse lol.

  • @pillok91

    well dipshit, read a book.

  • @Micklol i'd rather not lol seein as the one you're readin from is clearly a load of bullshit

  • @pillok91

well an english prick who doesnt know history. what else is new?

  • @Micklol well look at that, more bullshit. what a suprise. i'm not easily offended mate so you'll have to try harder than that lol

  • @pillok91

haha you are not offended eh?

  • @Micklol nope

  • @angelusote

  • @angelusote Ninjas are from PHILIPPINES!!!!!!!!!...IDK..ya I guess Japan :D

  • @angelusote One thing to say; SunTzu

  • @angelusote No ja.

  • Its amazing how much I adore these historical martial arts movies,I remember I always had a passion for them ever since I was a litlle kid and still do. =)

  • this track reminds me of shigurui death frenzy

  • Um ninjas obviously dont just defend "stuff" ... they defend forts ... which are defensive structures created with couch cushions and/or pillows.

  • @c6burns and they kill silently

  • I wonder how Yo Yo Ma gets the cello to do all those awesome noises it makes in that one part. You know, 0:00 - 8:08 <--that part

  • the track is utter beauty

  • lol dude said he wants to be a ninja,,,faggot

  • Erhu at 5:42 and 7:07 just leave me quite defenseless. For me it conveys the longing to approach but then withdrawing in haste.

  • what movie is this?

  • @razma1000

Crouching Tiger & Hidden Dragon is the title, fabulous movie.

  • I accidentaly wrote wrong "Kejitsu" : i meant Kenjitsu. Aïkido was created in 1930 by Morihei Ueshiba. It has been derivated from kenjitsu, jiujitsu and aikijutsu, which is very close from jiujitsu...

  • @TheMartialartsJedi Except a ninja is, by definition, an assassin and a spy in the service of the feudal Japanese government, not the Chinese government. Ninja is a Japanese concept, and China had no part to play in any of it. Just because someone knows any sort of martial art does now make them a ninja. I think that the last true remaining ninja died recently.

Besides, the traditional martial art (their primary training) practiced by the ninja was one of the many, many schools of Ninjutsu.

  • @bob26drft WRONG - There were Ninjas who were not outright assassins and spys - Hattori Hanzo for example (No not the guy from Kill Bill!). Ninja were supposedly just villagers at first who protected themselves farmer weapons etc against oppressive samurai. The lineage of the art of 'Ninjutsu' is also heavily disputed making the claim that the last living Ninja may not have had much to do with historical ninja at all. Most of the Schools in 'Ninjutsu' (Which is really the Bujinkan orgs etc)

  • @bob26drft ...are mostly Samurai arts (that do have credible Lineages). The schools within 'Ninjutsu' as its practiced today, do infact have their origin in chinese martial arts, much like most japanese martial arts. I am by the way a second dan in Bujinkan (not that that really means anything). But have sinced moved on to other martial styles.

  • @bob26drft actually you are wrong did you in fact know that almost every single martial art (ninjutsu included) originates from the many monks and students who studied and learned in the mountain forests of the songshan mountain range? If so then you'd say that the chinese had very much to do with the martial arts we have today.

  • ziyi zhang..... soo pretty

  • beautiful.....just beautiful for lack of better words

  • This is beautiful music!

  • thankyou very much 4 uploading this beautiful music :)

  • 你是丑陋...

  • wow she's so hot! Seen her in other eastern movies, just stunning! spam, i know....

  • ROFL @ negativethoughts!

    :D

  • Taiwan has a lot of indigenous tribes who are no Chinese.

  • @richardsbrandonuca So what's your point? Does it mean that this film is about Taiwainese indigenous (instead of Chinese) culture?

  • pround to be thai- chinese; though never know chinese a single word.

  • Chinese people all over the world will be so proud of this Chinese artistry.

  • well it's actually a taiwanese movie, directed by Ang Lee. the academy award for the best foreign film went to taiwan :-)

  • :) all Taiwanese are also Chinese.

  • :( have you asked them?

  • :) 你去问问他们是不是炎黄子孙?

  • I believe all humans ("homo sapiens") are descendents of "homo erectus" and "homo habilis" found in Africa. The concept of decendency is therefore very vague and has been superseeded by the concept of self-determination to define what a country is.

  • Yeah but they get all offended if you call them chinese. I don't get it. People call me Pakistani or Afghani, or whatever, but I don't care.

  • what is the drum used in this, some type of hand drum, can anyone help?

  • jiujitsu is the soft way

a style of fighting very close to the oponent

in the floor with atacks like lknee breaking

    foot elbol neck breaks etc

it was created by helio gracie

a brazilian fighter ans is the mos eficient way of fighting 1x1 unarmed

  • No way you can believe what you wrote, man...

Jujitsu is the ancestor of judo, it was practised by samouraï to be efficient on battlefield when they lose their weapon...

The grazie family create their own style of jujitsu, now known as brazilian jujitsu, but they did NOT create this art, unless they've more than 1500 years old...:p

  • the style of jiujitsu with the articulations atack was creatted by helio

the older style were more like judo

  • @Guanyu2003 No you both are actually wrong The samurai practiced Kempo (a general structure of mixing martial arts deriving from the chinese words quanfa) Adding armed and unarmed techniques together for the battle field Kendo the art of japanese fencing(swordplay) Karate the Ryu Kyu law of the fist(boxing if you must) Jiujitsu the art of throwing (grappling) and finally aikido using your opponents force against them to defeat them in a harmless way...

  • @Konvictedjeezy I strongly disagree, especially because I practised Kempo, which is a martial art of monk (you're right on the fact it's the same as the chinese quanfa).

Samurai first use Kejitsu (sword tecnique) and then, Kendo (way of the sword) when the samurai adopt the new philosophy of the "Do" after Japan reunification by Tokugawa. Karate come from Okinawa and has been created by and for farmer to protect themselves, it's absolutly not a thing for samourai. Aikido was born in XXe century.

  • @Guanyu2003 what Kempo? no it is most definitely not a Monk's Martial Art... Well I guess it was at a certain time period due to the fact that all Martial Arts begin with the Shaolin Temple in the Mountains of Songshan and Kenjutsu and Kendo are the same thing Ken(sword) do( way of) Kenjutsu(art of the sword) they are practically one in the same though one does practice more or less upon classical japanese sword play I'm sorry I did not mean Aikido I meant Akijutsu sorry. Kempo is a mixture.

  • @Konvictedjeezy Shorinji Kempo. I remember my teacher speaking about history of Kempo and it was made for monk to be safe and then come to Japan with the Chan (Japanese Zen) philosophy. Then it had reborn in late 50 under the control of So Doshin to give hope to the japanese youth.

Kendo and Kenjutsu (justsu is technique and not art, i'm sure of it) are not exactly the same thing for kenjustu are technique to be used on battlefield and Kendo is the philosophical mutation of the jutsu.

  • @Guanyu2003 I'm not talking about Shorinji Kempo I'm talking about Kempo In general Kempo is the japanese word for the japanese martial Arts much like how in american we refer to most chinese martial arts as Kung Fu and the fact that it involves ryukyuan arts like karate, there is a misunderstanding between us and for that I am sorry Kenjutsu and Kendo are like I said practically the same thing except the few reasons you explained.

  • @Konvictedjeezy Kenjutsu is a military training, that were used before during wars. When Japan was reunited and bushi lose their role, they justified their presence by creating a new kind of model, the esthet-warrior, which turn the war into art. Thus, under the influence of both Zen and taoism, Japan created the principle of Do (which is chinese Dao or Tao) for their military art. From usefulf Kenjutsu, samurai developed the concept of Kendo.

  • @Guanyu2003 the what? the Aesthetic-Warrior?

  • @Konvictedjeezy Sorry for englis, i guess I get rusty, for it's not my langage...I guess it's Aestheth. I meant the artist-warrior, that master not only blade, but poetry, art and litterature for example.

The few difference I explain are not that small : there is a huge gap beetween fighting technique and the way of sword, which is much more a self introspection and should I say, a religion. For us, westerners, I guess we can't really understand the whole thing, but it's a radical change.

  • @Guanyu2003 Yeah something like that...I'm glad we could have this conversation about the east.

  • @Konvictedjeezy What ? No insult ? A polite and respectable adversary ? God ! What have you done to youtube ?! XD

    Anyway, equally glad ^^

  • @Guanyu2003 Any time friend If you want we should talk martial arts sometime.

  • . By mastering any skill, you can find the essence of life, the Dao in anything you do.

I used to do Kendo for ten years, and sometime japanese teacher come to give us kenjutsu lesson : it's quite diffrent. You can use kick, elbow and atemi, which made the fight more realistic and less beautiful to watch. Anyway it's interesting too...

  • Kung Fu means "well done" on chinese, but for exemple kung fu wushu is martial art.

  • yeah dude, it is a skill like you can be a kung fu master and be a volley ball player :)

  • actually Kung Fu means ''hard work'' not well done:)

  • Basically, the best translation is "skills" , but yeah, it can means "Hard work" too, as you work hard to get a skill...

  • man this music!!!! i love it :D:D

  • epic fail you spelled her name wrong in the video it's Zhang with an "h" in the first name.

  • @Kratos0909 hardly an epic fail. just a small fail :P

  • Chinese should make more movies like this.

  • @telecalcu we already do, its just that not much of it makes it over the seas

  • @MisterRofltastic What do you expect from the westerners who speak but one language and are flag waving lunatics?

  • @telecalcu they do, most just don't bother coming over here (that is american audiences.

  • @telecalcu Ang Lee, the director, is from Taiwan, friend. ^_^

  • chinese movie ! :)

  • is this an american or japanese movie? or chinese?

  • a Chinese movie, directed by Ang Lee.

  • you cant not have seen it!! xD go watch it!

  • I think the movie and the music is great! ^.^

  • I want to learn Jujitsu

  • Thats nice. But what does Jujitsu have to do with Chinese people? =P

  • you'd better go to japan..

  • they do wushu in this movie

  • Incorrect they do Wushu and Nan-quan, so basically they use western and southern kung fu.

  • ju-jutsu has nothing to do with chinese people.

  • What is Jujitsu? I think you spelled it wrong.

  • tai chi is better tan jujitsu

  • I've been trying to find the (cello) sheet music for all the CTHD soundtracks for a while, but I haven't been able to find any copy.. I will keep looking though.. I'm afraid there's some sort of copyright on those parts.. That's a shame.

  • Love this Movie 10/10

  • sik sounds

  • Tan Dun is a brilliant composer, and this is testament to that. His music is never melodramatic, never confused or overbearing, and strikes the perfect tone for whatever scene it accompanies. It helps that the film was beautiful, but the music is in every way as beautiful as the visual element. Congratulations Tan Dun :)

  • and the music is even better with Yo-Yo Ma playing cello!

  • @nevardc2710 thats a super hero.. ninjas are assasins,killers!

  • @nevardc2710 this is not ninja tho...>.>

  • @nevardc2710 I tip my hat to you fine Nevardc2710...

  • what is the name of the high pitched string instrument in the last 4 min of the sequence?

  • "what is the name of the high pitched string instrument in the last 4 min of the sequence?"

    It's called the erhu.

  • As gariadara said, it's an erhu, The erhu is a Chinese form of violin. It has two strings, and the bow is locked between them in the centre of the neck. At the base there is a drum, traditionally with snake skin stretched across it, and this acts as the amplifier. It's usually played whilst sitting, with the erhu upright resting in the player's lap. It has a similar tone to a 'European' violin, but more 'nasal', and the long neck allows for these wonderful slides :)

  • the last few minutes is amazing...the sequence and patterns of notes and instruments is very calming

  • The seond part of this song makes my cry always.

  • china mountain to release all of my thoughts and worries

  • ive just started tai chi and kung fu, this is perfect.
