griot is a good compromise between a a PC and the much more agressive Flex. I have many good experiences with rotary and some bad, especially those corners. It seems to me that the "direct drive rotary" of the Flex is maybe a bit too aggressive. The new Griot DA has more torque at the lower end than the PC but not as strong as the Flex. Any thoughts?
I am not clear above. Before, I did rotary. I stopped using rotary because it was difficult on corners and edges. I then bought the PC DA. However, it does not have low end torque. So I just bought a Griot because it has a more powerful motor (7amps vs 4 amps). The Flex DA seems to have too much of an aggressive rotary action (I know it is a DA -orbits and rotary), less fool proof. You care to comment. Would I be better off just saving my money and buying a Flex?
@chris14091975 Yes. When you look at the overall picture between the Griot's, PC and the Meguiar's orbital polishers. They all even out in the wash. There is no significant advantage from one over the other. What I tell people to do is buy the cheaper of the three. There's not enough difference to claim anyone superior.
As for the Flex, you must be using way to aggressive of a compound and running the polisher way to fast if you're removing paint off corners. This is a common novice mistake.
@Junkman2000 yes, it happenned once or twice while using a regular rotary tool at the beginning of my detailling carreer, which is why i moved to a dual action tool.
@chris14091975 I have never experienced that type of mishap with the Flex, however, I don't go out and grab the most aggressive stuff I can find to speed up my results. I use only what's necessary to get the job done safely. This is the mindset that I teach. The more aggressive you get, the more work you create. People don't realize that because their way of thinking is flawed. I talk about this in the thread where these videos are posted.
@Junkman2000@Junkman2000 I am merely echoing a concern YOU raisied in a previous post (I am up-to-date on your videos...) Observe your comments at 2 min 30-50 sec on your following video. How Safe is the PC 7424XP - Part 2 . You clearly say that when handling the Flex(forced rotation), you must handle with care. Oh, by the way, I ain't a novice. Being impatient doesn't make you a novice, it makes you impatient, which is why I use the fool proof tool. Flex don't seem foolproof.
@chris14091975 Yes you must handle it with care. That's why I tell people that they should always start their machine detailing experience with the PC. Once you have mastered the PC, going to the Flex is a whole lot less of a learning curve. You will quickly catch on. The Flex in the hands of someone not properly trained is scary. With proper experience, it's a very productive tool.
@vinngrizzle A Flex is a Flex 3401VRG. The PC is a Porter-Cable 7424XP. GOOGLE THEM. They are NOT made by Adam's. My friend, you need to join Adam's Forums and do a lot of video watching in my area of the forum. There are no stupid questions but your questions are from someone who has done zero research. You have got to at least make an effort to get somewhat up to speed so that I can spend time helping you with things that are more difficult to understand. Help me help you. Do the research!
