My kombucha is getting thinner and thinner for every batch :(
I'm at my third now and the mother is as thin as paper. Is my Kombucha dying? I do not use organic sugar and I don't filter my water. Do you think that is why?
@adamal93 You don't need organic sugar, but the quality of the water makes a difference. The temperature also make s a difference so make sure that it is warm enough for the kombucha. In cold weather I put my kombucha in the hot press were it is constantly warm
I hope I can get a quick answer on this one! I'm now having 3 liters of kombucha fermenting, but I'm confused as to whether I should have used 1,5 cups of apple-cider vinegar instead of 3 tablespoons as said in the instructions I got with my culture. What is your guess? Thanks!
@adamal93 The kombucha will brew quicker the more you add and will change the taste. It will be quite strong, but will be fine. 3 tablespons for 3 litres seems like to little to me and will take longer to brew. i would say at least 50ml per litre. There is an art to it and you will find your own best way after a couple of months of brewing. It's like cooking, 2 people will follow the exact same recipe and each meal might taste completely different. Your energy is transferred into it.
Hi Matthew! I received my Kombucha today from HarmonikIreland. Unfortunately, it was left in my mailbox in approximately -10*C for some time. I'm afraid it could have damaged my culture. I'm not sure if it was frozen at the time I got it, but if I'll try, should I use the starter tea (if we assume it's been frozen) or the apple-cider vinegar?
@adamal93 Hi Adam, Normally it's not good to freeze the Kombucha Cultures, because they can starve to death. But if it was only for a few days, I think it will be ok. When brewing the Kombucha tea, keep the culture in a warm dry place with a clean cloth over the top. I think the starter tea should also be fine. You will know if there are any problems because the culture will mould. If this happens throw it away, clean your bowl & get a new culture.
Questions: After the 8 days or so when it is ready and I am drinking it daily, where do I put it? Does it stay out? Do I refrigerate it? Do I add more water as I drink it, so as to replenish my supply? Or do I need to create a new batch each time? Will the culture disappear?or grow?
@geodepe Bottle it in glass bottles. You can refrigerate if you want to keep it along time but it will be fine for a few months at room temp. There is no need to add more water, just bottle it when it is ready and make a new batch to keep you going. the culture will grow and create a new one every time you brew! : )
What I don't understand is if a dried version in a tea such as yogi tea would work? if it is a live culture, won't the boiling water kill the kombucha? Thanks :)
I had some bottled Kombucha and it was delicious and infused with fruit is there anyway to infuse fruit with it and does Kombucha work as well on the young Camellia sensis (white tea) the african honey brush, or even Rooibos?

@TriniLightLove yes the boiling water kills the culture and the goodness that you can get from it.
