@sigmundklaus I just got it tonight actually, the sound is absolutely stunning coming from the DS, and I have the lite, not the DSi. The DS by itself is only meh, really great once I hooked it up to some speakers though. I would recommend this to anyone, total noobs and pros.

I just bought the korg and it is SIIICK! Ive been messing around for a couple of hours and now i know what music i can make with it. I just wish there was at least three synths so i can make chords. But great for the price.

With all honesty it's more capable than the machine its based off of but still not powerful as FL yet fun to play with (IIRC you had to connect a big console to the keyboard).

You could record in a DAW, even something like Audacity for multi-tracking. Just take the headphone jack from the DS and plug it into the mic jack on your computer with a male-male 3.5" cord.

Yeah, I meant 3.5mm. Just a question: If you have FL, why do you need this? It's more of a toy, and the sound is quite thin, especially compared to the synth this is modeled after, the MS-20. I'm sure you could find some free softsynths that are better than this. Just make sure you know what you're getting with this.

@reddie74 No dude fl studios is a toy, maybe its good for some weak rap beats or something, but as far as sequencing goes, renoise is amazing, and for sound design, reason, just get rewire and use them simultaneously. seriously ds 10 is less a toy than fl.

You cannot edit samples with the DS-10, let alone have them modulate each other. The kind of organic sounds you need for production-quality music will not come from anything short of a sampler and a massive clip database.

FL Studio is less of a toy than the DS-10, which is but a lone soft synth and simplified mixer - no 3rd party VST support.

I am quite fond of FL Studio's interface organization and use it regularly with Reason as a VST or through rewire, if not by itself.

@AutomatousRock uhm... well, think fl is great for beginners and easy to use... and in fact, it depends on the musician, whats at the end coming out. there are some guys in india, they take some piece of bamboo plant in their mouth and make great sounds and life session, even with only 3 tones coming from it. just a drum and tadaaa ;)... so, fl really is enough for the most ppl i think ;)...

There's a "plus" version of this coming out so you can find this cheap used. It was very intimidating to me as I'd never used any synth or "tracker" music so I demo'ed it and gave up. I picked up a used version yesterday and am glad I did. I'm starting to "get" it and making some nice music.

Not sure if the soon-to-be released DS-10+ will have an export function (likely not)... recording it is much fun though! (homebrew synths/sequencers allow exporting MIDI and wav form files to/from the DS though)

Your audio card should have a mic in or line in jack. Run a line from your headphone jack to the pc. I often play my games through my stereo because I like extra volume.

It is repeating 2-bar loops, and he/she? is only working in one loop (honestly it is annoying as hell, meanwhile the good DS-10 vids seem to get little to no views, wth people? seriously have got no taste). I never really wasted time viewing this, but I did fastforward a little and found that indeed, it does repeat too much.

This does repeat a lot, but I don't think the video was meant as an example of well-composed music. It is more of a jam, that shows off the DS-10's capabilities. It's enjoyable, not because of it's composition, but because of it's tone. Tons of electronica is based off of loops, often repeating for like seven minutes. While this video repeats patterns, it would not be possible to create a song on the DS-10 with such interesting tone changes with multiple patterns due to its limited automation.

Well said... takes time to actually create something audibly tasteful though (given that, 4 units linked together is a good idea if looking to compose anything really)... apparently the DS-10+ is on the way (more features i suppose) but likely only a DSi-specific given that its rendering capability is somewhat greater than this program. Granted, said individual at least edited the beats... wouldn't say it's limited either since I've seen people post videos with this in sync with extra equip,

I heard about the DS-10+. Sounds awesome, but unfortunately I don't have a DSi and have little intention to buy one. By limited I meant that there isn't much capability for editing the tone of synths or changing the mixer if you're in song mode. You can use the kaoss pad for two paramaters on synth 1 and 2, and patching can work wonders, but it still only gets you so far.. And it's also difficult to change things in pattern mode, since you have to switch patterns manually.

I bought a DS Lite for this program alone and when I got the DS it appeared that all DS-10s in sweden we're sold out and most were not too keen on ordering in new ones, luckily I got a hold of a company that would import it from the U.S. for me, so hopefully it will be in my hands in about a week!
