It's one of my best tv seires, after Bones and NCIS.... I didn't like Life on Mars, the UK series with John Simm, above all I don't like him...... but Ashes to AShes is wonderful and fantastic, I'm seeing it in original language because in Italy (where I live) there isn't, but I think that next year t can be buy by our channels tv.

I can't tell you how much I love this series.. WHY OH WHY only 8 episodes a season! Why not like those US shows.. 24 episodes every season... There better be a Season 3 ! Gene and Alex are the best !

The US shows with long series have a lot more cast members with important roles. Practically every scene in Ashes has Gene or Alex in it, similar with stuff like Dr Who. Lost has 8 or 9 major characters at any one time, House has at least 4.  Short series happen in the US as well though, look at Dexter, all centred on one guy, 12 episodes a season.

US shows run 40minutes with 20 minutes of commercials 40x12=480 minutes. UK shows run 60 minutes 60x8=480 minutes. WOW! same amount of minutes. Try using your brain sometime.

24 eps; that's why all US series eventually lose viewing figures. Who can be bothered to suffer 24 of anything (even 24!)? The excellence of British series is having to wait for the return with bated breath and we also know when to go out on a high instead of running everything into the ground for the almighty dollar! Art over profit!

@djbethell That is a big difference between US and British TV production. In the Britain a tv series normally runs 6 to 8 episodes...which means, the actors can do more than one thing in a year and don't get over exposed/ occasionally a series may last 12 weeks, unless it is a soap at it goes all year round.. US tv series' seem to all last from September to May with breaks.

Just watched the new episode in series 2 that was on tonight BBC1 . BLOODY FANTASTIC. Music was even better Gene hunt was his normal outstanding self but i think Bolly Knickers has aged some what from series one. And i prefered her longer 80's style perm she used to have. But all in all best show on British TV in years.
