But as a viable Spec Ops unit I think that they don't have what it takes. Sure, they're training is some of the toughest in the world. But that type of training breeds brutes, incapable of anything besides using brute strength. I think they lack modern spec ops tactics and training.
So, one again, you have chosen to take the abstract route, without actually discussing anything in particular. The spetsnaz operate using the latest in small arms and support equipment. They use, among others, the AS VAL silenced rifle, the ots-14 groza bullpup rifle, and the an-94, and there are probably others that I obviously not privy to. These are all new weapons. They do not, as you seem to think, use the rank-and-file weapons deployed by regular field units.

The Soviets have been actively engaged in UAV development since the late 70s. The first UAVs first underwent testing in A-stan in the late 80's and have been used since the early 90's. Japan was attacked in response to help China, basically Manchuria. USSR was DEFENDING A SMALL CITY and with no escape, basically Germany encircled Stalingrad and they used artillery by days,only Volga river was escape and entry,no one retreated. Casualty rates determine how hard the country fought in WWII

@TovarishGlushkov1 Okay, here's my analysis of the spetsnaz. I think that their bark is bigger than their bite. They look badass, they have badass guns (20 year old badass guns), and they're Russian. But as a viable Spec Ops unit I think that they don't have what it takes. Sure, they're training is some of the toughest in the world. But that type of training breeds brutes, incapable of anything besides using brute strength. I think they lack modern spec ops tactics and training.

So, one again, you have chosen to take the abstract route, without actually discussing anything in particular. The spetsnaz operate using the latest in small arms and support equipment. They use, among others, the AS VAL silenced rifle, the ots-14 groza bullpup rifle, and the an-94, and there are probably others that I obviously not privy to. These are all new weapons. They do not, as you seem to think, use the rank-and-file weapons deployed by regular field units.

I guess the Spetsnaz's shortcomings are not the operator's fault but the Russian Military command structure, and they're inability to conduct large scale operations.

the AK-74u is a notoriously innaccurate weapon currently issued only to tank crews for immediate self-defense in the event of their machine becoming disabled. It is policy to issue it only to such units, and such units only - can I reiterate this enough ? The Russian DoD recently concluded a contract with the producers of the AN-94 akaban to purchase 26,000 said rifles, meant particularly for Vityaz and interior ministry units. There is no issue with supply - tu comprendes ?

If for whatever reason the Spetsnaz were to come up against say SEALS then I think the Spetsnaz would lose simply because they lack the tactics and military competence to compete with SEALS. But I will admit that Spetsnaz training is probably the hardest in the world. I wouldnt say i fear them, but i do respect them.

They are taught to live off the land and use their environment to complete tasks and survive. They have years worth of experience in Vietnam, Africa and the mountains of Afghanistan, as well as the current anti-terror missions in Chechnya, etc. You have failed to cite anything that proves them less capable than their adversaries.

It's like they're training to be captured so then they can put their skills to the test. Also, the spetsnaz have no where near the efficiency of the U.S. command and leadership structure. As well as support in the form of intelligence, air support, and others. The Russian Military just doesn't know how to use these men effectively, or maybe they just can't.

All you arguments seem to run into the same logical fallacy. The fact that you deploy UAV's does not preclude other nations from deploying them. The Soviets have been actively engaged in UAV development since the late 70s. The first UAVs first underwent testing in A-stan in the late 80's and have been used since the early 90's. The fact that you have them doesn't mean others dont have them.
