  • lots of artists use other peoples material, Tim Hardin might of wrote it, but Rod Stewart CAN sing it way better.

  • @tokyodove no.

  • 5 people don't have a reason to believe

  • Beautifully sung.

  • Rod had an uncanny knack of choosing covers and making them sound like his might have been the original. First Cut is the Deepest, You Keep Me Haning On, I'd Rather Go Blind, Angel, Handbags and Gladrags, Mama You Been On My Mind, Oh No Not My Baby, Sailing etc

  • c'est vrai à l'époque il n'y avait que les cassettes...........et j'ai encore la cassette de Rod......nos chansons........de mon mari et moi...........

  • This is the 'B' side of Maggie May. It must rank as the best 'B' side ever.

  • he sounds like Bryan Adams sometimes

  • @Aaaaaaaaaaaaah00 more like Bryan Adams sounds like Rod

  • EVERYTHING ROD DOES IS AMAZING INCLUDING THE MAN HIMSELF. I LOVE YOU ROD YOU HAVE BEEN IN MY LIFE FOR OVER 40 YEARS, WE HAVE LASTED LONGER THAN MOST MARRAGES, THANK YOU FOR YOUR MUSIC, YOU ARE THE BEST, LUV YER X XX X

  • Hey lets get one thing straight Rod didnt write this, it was written by Tim Hardin.

  • @Blueforlifefry Yup but nobody sings it like he does ;)

  • @Blueforlifefry holy i never knew this was a cover lol thanks for letting me know. definitely going to check out the original now.

  • I like Adele's version better

  • @domigit Completely different song...

  • Remember the 70's playing Rod on the car cassette player. Long hot summers and the women in my life. Long hair and sideburns with bell bottom strides and those mini skirts Wow. We had it all and didn't know it at the time. Don't listen to Rod now, he was at his best in the 70's then like other rock stars lost it for the quick buck. Sad.

  • Please, respect the music, and put your frustations on another side!!!!!!!!

  • @Freudianity--Go screw yourself moron. OOH so original using the word dickhead I am so impressed with your enlighted vocabulary.

  • yoi jabriiiiixx.... :)

  • @harmonirie another music lover. Tim was a folkie from the early to mid 60's. he also wrote If I were a carpenter..for Bobby Darrin. Bobby then wrote a song for him. We don't want no war.

By the way who In he f**** is Harold Bishop?

  • @jlilyroth12 *** The song is actually called Sing a Simple Song of Freedom

  • @jlilyroth12

    Harold Bishop?

Oh just one of the neighbours.

  • Soul Rocks!!! sooooo love this song <3 <3 <3

  • This was originly the A side of the single, & Maggie May the B side, what a descision :)

  • @thompstaff Flip it :)

  • a song to make you think ..

  • @supernevile It's funny what the public decides is appealing music and what isn't. Today's standards are perfect example of that. Maggie May was an OK song but Reason to Believe is a far superior song and it calls for a more nuance effort then screaming at the top of one's lungs that Stewart had to do when singing Maggie May!

  • @chuckbuckbobuck That's your opinion and what's more, there is no screaming on 'Maggie May'....exaggerating to prove a point doesn't make it any more convincing.

  • @chuckbuckbobuck

If you think Rod screams on Maggie May you obviously haven't heard it...dickhead.

  • This sogn just came on the radio. It really speaks to me right now. What would anyone do without music? Especially music like this.

  • Comment removed

  • B side is 6 million times than his banal hit "Maggie May". This song is so visceral, so honest and perhaps so earnestly sung that I can't figure out why it wasn't a number 1 hit for months back in 1970! Just such a great song, such great instrumentation!

  • @chuckbuckbobuck I agree This was the original A side until the otherside was played more on the radio. I bought MM and was bowled over by the B side which I had never heard, especially the piano. Learned the piano riffs to impress the girls (didnt work tho').

  • @SuperNevile would have thought that would impress terribly..bad luck..am very sorry that didn't work..clearly your audience wasn't correctly educated!

  • Fine song off a fine album.

    Love mandolin wind as well

  • One of my all-time favorite songs. Ever. Period.

  • @harmonirie Stewart DIDN'T write this song. It's a cover of a Tim Hardin song. Hardin also wrote "If I Were A Carpenter"

  • why does the piano intro remind of the begining of the Neighbours theme

  • @jasonfury1

It was written by Harold Bishop!

  • @QueenReigns1

    LMFAO.

  • @QueenReigns1 and sung by Madge(on a good day) well it sounds like her voice type

  • Utterly the song I was craving today. Loving someone who isn't good for you. Forgiveness. Leaving the game when you've been beaten.

  • rod's lozenge proof throat has love and hate and pain in it.

  • One of Rod's best songs. Thanks for posting this.

  • DestinyShadow1, I remember it got airplay in the U.S. but it was never a real big hit like Maggie May, man they ran that one straight into the ground. You will get sick of even a great song if they play it too many times.

  • check my version

  • Pure classic...*sigh*

  • and the song that lets me regret just enough to learn from.....the one that got away

  • @skymunro The one that got away. Ain't that the perfect turn of frase.

  • I loove this song!!

  • this song is my life story unfortunately,no matter how many lies that have caused a lot of pain,i just put her over me every time

  • If American Idol's Paul McDonald had done THIS song, rather than the top 40 Maggie Mae, we might still be listening to his amazing voice. He could actually do this song right. I'm so sorry AI pushed the commercial on an artist like Paul.

  • Great song written by Tim Hardin but sang far better by Rod

  • Great song written by Tim Hardin, but sang better by far by Rod

  • Watchout for the users. There are more an more everyday!

  • If I ever get married again this is my song I want played at the wedding. I always joke that maybe I could get Rod to come and sing it for us. Of course, I am nobody and I doubt he would (what can I offer him, a slice of cake) but it is one of my fantasies. This song goes for the gut and I remember hearing it in high school in the early 70's from the juke box in the cafeteria. Boy does that date me.

  • Ha! This reminds me why my ex wives are EX wives.. I can't stand a lying bitch.. of either sex.. Lie to me even once about a penny and you're out the fucking door now..

I ain't got the time to cry anymore. I'm to old for that shit.

  • Rod Is God!

  • One of his best among a whole lot.Just terrific!!!

  • To all you Clemson Tigers fans (like myself) and Carolina Panthers fans (again, like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when Brentston Buckner came into the world (September 30, 1971).

  • I love this song! I'm going to see Rod and Stevie Nicks next week in Toronto-hope he sings this song!

  • This song means alot to me, it was my moms song to my dad. He passed away this past August...Sometimes its hard for me to listen to but its such a beautiful song. RIP Daddy I love u and miss u more then n e thing

  • Rod Stewart is my favorite singer, He's really good I impress.

  • The song goes back further than 40 years and Rod Stewart didn't write it. It was written by Tim Hardin, who recorded it in 1965. Bobby Darin also recorded it in 1966.

  • 3 people dont have a reason to believe!

  • a lovely lovely song rods version is so much soulfull still cant believe 40 years ago so many memories tied to this song my kids and now grandkids fuksake ive really found a reason to believe enjoy it folks

  • I've never liked anything more than his early stuff. I like the fact that he's done so many different things - even though I haven't liked them all. I give him credit for taking career risks to pursue his goals and sing what he feels. But I *always* come back to the early songs.

  • This is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. The first concert I ever saw was Rod Stewart and Bad Finger back in 1971. I have been a Rod Stewart fan ever since. And I look forward to his new tour with Stevie Nicks. Peace.

  • absolutely special song. it just strikes me in a way most songs cant.

  • every picture tells a story but songs like this brings back where and what you where doing so much better

  • Grat song!!

  • top rod, such a dope now, but what a singer back then.

  • 2 people can't find a reason to believe

  • i used to cry listening to this sond :'(

  • @iluvqueen101 As did many, many of us.....

  • I looooove this song. I used to listen to it while sitting in the back seat of my mom's car... driving to nowhere. Good writing here R.Stewart. You gave me a reason to keep living, depsite hard hard times where I wanted to give up. Thank you.

  • @harmonirie

same with me i used to do that, sit in the backseat with my mom while she sing this song... and i agree

  • @harmonirie

Good version but Rod didn't write it.

  • @harmonirie rod stewart didn't write this song; the amazing tim hardin wrote it.

  • @harmonirie I love your comment, as my daughter would probably have a similar memory, riding in the back seat of my car! Actually it's a folk tune written by Tim Hardin! Rod Stewart really brings it to life!!

  • @trkdrvrsqueen

Oh thank you... I was wondering who wrote it originally. Have a good one!

  • @harmonirie Same!

  • @harmonirie good writing @Tim Hardin not Rodders, bless his little cotton socks.

  • I now know the true writer of this wonderful song. Thank you all for correcting me. Credit goes to Tim Hardin! :)

  • @harmonirie

Rod didn't write this song actually Tim Hardin wrote it. He has written many many songs that other people make famous.

  • @reyesconstruction But does it matter who wrote the song, when it is interpreted and delivered in a way which hits the spot?

  • @ronninj amen!!!

  • @harmonirie

Good writing R Stewart...my arse..Tim Hardin wrote this song.

  • @QueenReigns1 You got it right !!

  • Comment removed

  • @QueenReigns1

    Correct Sir.

Tim Harding wrote and sang this song around the mid 60s.

  • This classic now 40 years old!!!! Where did the time go??? Make the most of what time you have yet remaining.

  • Tim Hardin was an incredible song writer, and these covers do his talent justice.

  • I have a Reason to Believe.........I believe I will break up with my current girlfriend via email this time. :)

  • Great line - "Someone like you, makes it hard to live without somebody else"

    SO, maybe YOU suck!

If it wasn't for YOU, maybe I COULD live without somebody else, and not be so fucking lonely!

All the YOU's out there suck!!!!

Great song, thank you once again Rod Stewart!

  • @saclrpfrl10 Just a clue, it might be you who sucks!

If you can't stand the 'heat', leave the kitchen. Love is not for

    the selfish or ignorant.

You are never lonely when you respect yourself,

you are just without human companionship.

  • I neither suck ,nor am I selfish or ignorant ,as you inferred.

I do however agree with your last two lines.

    Thanks for the reminder!

    Happy New Year.

  • Someone like you makes it easy to give never think about myself!!! i need u..........

  • LOVE THIS SONG. FIRST LOVE.XX

  • I love it

  • This is one of those rare cases where after you hear Rod's version, all other versions need to just crawl off and die. Even versions by normally great artists like Jackie deShannon.

  • *****

  • Wow drinking gin mixed with snow and going back to my high school girlfriends house and throwing this lp on the player and making out thank you Rod and Carliss for all those precious memories...... God bless both of you!

  • This wasn't a big hit in the 70s it was an album track and rather obscure or am I just showing my age?

  • @DestinyShadow1

Don't know about your age, but this got to Number 1 in UK, being a double A side with Maggie May, as well as being on Every Picture Tells A story.

  • @DestinyShadow1

Don't know about your age, but this got to Number 1 in UK, being a double A side with Maggie May, as well as being on Every Picture Tells A story.

  • Amazing then and NOW.

  • @reddirtgirl55 Rod is great in concert!! I

  • Whoever disliked better missed the like button and better find a reason to believe to tell me b 4 i kill u

  • Great song. Don't know what the 'Celtic supporter' thing has got to do with anything though. I'm a Rangers fan, doesn't stop liking this song.

  • @ScotRanger1960

Can't begin to tell you how much I hate Rangers, ever since that dirty bastard Souness was manager.

    Come on The Hoops !

  • @QueenReigns1

So you liked Rangers BEFORE Souness then ? Listen, I couldn't care less how much you hate Rangers. I was making the point that not every Rangers supporter hates Rod Stewart just because he's a Celtic supporter.

  • @ScotRanger1960

No..I just disliked them before Souness...since him I've hated them with a vengeance.

  • @QueenReigns1

Yeah, i guessed that much. I was making a wee joke. You see, you said you hated Rangers 'ever since that dirty.......etc'

Besides, have you ever wondered WHY you hate Rangers ? I'll bet you can't justify it without being a bigot.

  • @ScotRanger1960

I see no reason to justify it, other than the fact that I prefer Celtic.

Now stop going on about football on a music video..and don't tell me I started it.

  • @QueenReigns1

You started it. Anyway, I love the three so-called 'classic' Rod albums. 'Every Picture Tells A Story', 'Smiler' and 'Never A Dull Moment'. And of course The Faces were great too........but not as good as Free.

  • classic Rod , fantastic track...!

  • love this too. Wasn't it released as a double a side?

  • This is Rod at his very best , his just can't sing like this anymore. Much better than the overplayed 'Maggie Mae'

  • 1 person has his screen upside down, he meant to like it

  • amazing, what an entertainer...........one of the greatest.....xx

  • amazing, what an entertainer...........one of the greatest

  • this was one of the first 45's I had. It was the B-side to Maggie May and I loved it even more than Maggie May-still love it after all these years.

  • @magilojoh In fact Reason to Believe was the A side and Maggie May the B side, a D.J. on a east coast radio station liked the B side better , played the B side and the rest is history ..

  • @TyneBridge56 wow thanks for sharing that! i had never heard that before. I just always loved Reason to Believe (and Maggie May too)

  • I used to listen to this stuff on my dads reel to reel, great days, great memories!

  • @reyesnancy13 these songs make me remember riding around in the car with my mom listening to easy listening

  • A song like this one makes me forgive every bad choice!

    Love you, Rod! Thank you!

  • @TheElinabeth

that's a very good way to look at it.

  • remember when they wrote great music, Ah yes

  • The best song ever! Congratulations!

  • I prefer this version over Tim Hardin's.

  • @luckitz me too - Tim Hardin impressed me more in this song. Wonderful voice.

  • @luckitz I can understand why but a little organ wouldn't have hurt Tim. Ever heard Neil Young's I am a Child? I read that he is doing a great Tim Hardin imitation ..do you know if they mean any particular song or just is general? Rod's version is good too.

  • class ..wonderful ..

  • I agree with Chapelierfoudre - Stewart's music before 1975 was his best. After 1975, he started singing "IF YOU THINK I'M SEXY AND YOU WANT MY BODY ..." Just rubbish. Music in general sure changed after 1975.

  • Very emotional.

  • This song just kicked my ass!!!!!!!!

  • I bought the Mercury 8 track of Every Picture Tells A Story in the Summer 1972. It was a beautiful Blue color. Still have it and also on CD.

  • This song is such a beautiful hrowback to a bygone British sound. The organ fill is tremendous. The lyrics are truthful exprestsion. It is still powerful and touching.

    "Never think about myself."

  • this was the original a side to maggie may

  • masterpiece indeed

  • explains my life rightnow.

  • Agreed. Never realised that Rod came as a normal blues singer in to the Faces as a normal blues band, just shows you, any one can do it!! Saw his early stuff natural blues folk singer!!

    Gerry Lambe - The Skunks

  • Heard this song covered in a pub by a great band and looked up Rods song. Love it!

  • Always to my heart, My sweet baby girl.

  • 2.42 is when this song starts. nothing like a bit of silence first to gather your thoughts

  • plz add lyrics

  • Great song from a great Celtic supporter!!!

    Hail Hail!!!!

  • great song from a great Celtic supporter...

  • @supamac67 - Not everyone is perfect.

  • Hardin wrote the song....But Stewart made it his. What a visceral version.....

  • 'someone like you makes it hard to live without somebody else'....

i feel this way bout you....have your feelings changed?

  • I was in my very early 20s when this album was released. This song was originally released in the mid-60s as the A side of a 45 rpm, Maggie Mae the flip side but Maggie Mae was more popular and future prints of the 45 reversed this to the B side. I always liked this song and this time period for Rod Stewart.

  • I thought it was released in '71 or so. I love Rod Stewart even though we're as old as he is now..HAHA We have a little border terrier that my husband named Maggie MAY...his favorite song when we were old hippies! I wish that the Michael Grimm (the new talent on AGT) would sing Reason to Believe with his voice he could pull this one off. Reminded me last night of Rod Stewart.

  • none of his stuff is rubbish, im an 80'S baby and can apprecite an artist in every era and the fact he has moved with the times Rod is to remembered by all who understand his music and the meaning behind it

  • simply fantastic - a wonderful cover of a great Tim Hardin song. It just shows what a great album this was when this was not perhaps the best song on it - and this is pretty excellent.

  • Great Song. Thanks for posting it.

  • mod rod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Used to dance to this at our local disco back in the early 70's, always thought it was a better song than Maggie Mae. Great memories, great song, great singer. Thanx

  • Great track.
