  • Am I overweight? Age 12 I am 35 kg.

  • @ladyzicon True. But if you don't over eat you won't be fat. You can't create something from nothing.

  • 3 hours a day in the gym? Maybe walking on the treadmill. Still nope. Maybe 30 minutes.

  • Obesity has been an issue in my family for the longest time. Finally took the plunge and had the procedure done at southcoastlapband. I couldn't stand not having to live like a normal person anymore. My weight is a major factor in my depression. It's been almost a year and i have lost 80 lbs. I am glad i did it!

  • Obese? Just try eating less. It really is that simple!

If more goes in your mouth than down the toilet you will put on weight!

  • @t0mme1981 It really isnt that simple. You can eat less but still be taking in large amounts of calories without realizing it. Or you could be eating too few calories and not lose weight.

    Source: I was once obese

  • @EbonySings4u: I follow this rule; all food that tastes delicious, gives you a warm glow inside and you want to eat more, is fattening. I enjoy eating pizzas, Indian food and drinking beer.

I have to limit my intake of the food I enjoy, and have to exercise for an hour twice a week to keep myself in shape. Well done for losing your weight!!!

  • @t0mme1981 Thats sad and untrue. You should enjoy the foods you love. I didnt have to cut any food I love to eat. You just have to change the way you eat. I drink, eat pizza, cheesecake, chocolate, anything I want and lost almost 50 pounds. I also exercise. Life is too short to not indulge or enjoy it. I think when people obsess over it and eat and eat and eat until they cant anymore is where the problem begins. Thanks for the congrats!

  • what? get that cat off the table lol!

  • That was an excellent testimonial on the positive effects of bariatric surgery. But also it sheds light upon the social stigma associated with obesity and the bias that the obese encounter in their daily lives.

    PsychTom

  • her Daughter is HOT!!

  • Wow! She looks great!

  • Weight Loss surgery should be banned. It is a very costly and dangerous surgery. Surgery does not CURE obesity (what causes it), it simply FORCES you not to over eat. There are severe restrictions you need to follow after this surgery, and for the rest of your life, severe complications if you don't follow to the letter, so in a way after this surgery you are on a highly restrictive diet! People need to "cure" at the source, what causes them to eat in the first place, not some surgery.

  • weightloss surgery is great for those who eat alot but when you don't eat much it won't work

  • she looks amazing!!!!!!!!!

  • Yes, Gastric Bypass can kill you, because it gets infected easily and the stomach can burst etc., but that is in rare cases. My mom had gastric bypass surgery over 5 years ago. She weighed 330lbs, and now she weighs 140lbs. The weight almost literally melted off of her. She was at 180 within a year, but something was wrong and she was losing up to 30 lbs a week initially. But she lived and is healthy now. Gastric bypass should be an option for anyone overweight. It changes and saves lives.

  • It's sad how many people turn to surgery when there are other options.

  • Relatively speaking she shouldn't have had to rely on the weight loss surgery. Yes, she was overweight, but she could have taken care of it on her own, like she had before. Its a process of accepting that you WANT to change your life.

Of course, you look amazing though. and the new lifestyle you've taken really works. Keep up the great work

  • Her daughter is really hot! And the cat is so cute miau!

And of course, congrats on the weight loss.

  • obesity problems start at childhood, with the introduction of very bad sugars like high fructose corn syrup. if you drink sweetened beverages, make sure it is sweetened with real sugar, and not the fake stuff made in labs. that stuff is killer. take it easy on the sweets and starchy/floury foods and youll be alright.

  • @Pelonetillo

but fructose IS real sugar, it's what's in all fruits. Table sugar, although natural, would never have been ingested in the qunatities that it is today, so I'm struggling with your comment.

  • I wasn't talking about HER I was talking about a comment further down. Gosh.

  • You dont need surgery to lose weight.

    You need motivation, and support.

Get rid of the junk food from your home so you aren't tempted, and if you are walk your ass to the store.

You may change your mind when you get there and get a water instead.

    And get a bike!

  • 3 words to sum up the video. DIET AND EXCERCISE

  • i think the reason that people gain weight back is because after they lose it all, its like "ok, i did it, im done" but in reality, its not that way at all. you have to keep it up forever if you want to stay fit. thats why gradual weight loss will stay with you better if you make it part of your life rather than something squeezed in for the year or so you do it.

  • @faymissk right on...

  • glad for you

  • weight control is a life style, meaning working out daily.

  • So she successfully lost weight on her own twice and seems to be active, why give up and get surgery? She just needed someone or something to motivate her to lose the weight in a healthy way again.

  • @hopemoore Weight is gained extra easily if it has already been there once. Even if you excersise, the human stomach is still used to all that fat and sugar and saves all of it, because it used to do that. That's the yo-yo effect.

  • the only excuse for obesity is just that, and excuse.

  • I'm glad she feels better. But she a lifestyle change is possible, without risky surgery. It makes me sad to think of people resorting to this :(

We shouldn't be so focused on looks. But obesity is unhealthy. Yes, it depends upon the person. But overall, excess weight is strain on your joints and heart.

If you binge, you must find out what your triggers are. And while learning how to deal with the emotions that lead to a binge, eat fruit and vegetables instead.

Be healthy in mind and body!

  • She is a total disgrace - she knew how to lose weight, by exercising 3hrs a day 5x a week, but then wanted to ruin it for herself and got this very dangerous surgery cos she was embarrassed that she couldn't control her eating!!!

I was really proud of her right up to the point that she said she got surgery. People are now eating themselves to death at the tax payers expense and then getting surgery cos they cant say no - weight loss is hard but it is something you should apply yourself to.

  • @diskokitten We all come to the table with a unique way of perceiving the world and ourselves, based on our innate personality traits, our upbringing, and the culture at large. That individual experience means that we can never really know how difficult a particular challenge is for anyone else. Unfortunately, we tend to gauge other people's value by comparing their behavior to our own (I am guilty of this too)...

  • @diskokitten ...Is it fair to call her a total disgrace? Might it be more helpful to say that she made a poor decision? Would you like it if I called you a total disgrace because you employed poor grammar and lazy spelling in your comment? Wouldn't I be unfairly reducing the entirety of your humanity to one single act? Is it not more accurate to say, "What she did is wrong" rather than "She is a total disgrace"? Calling her a disgrace is permanent, calling her action wrong allows her to change.

  • @diskokitten. No, she is not a disgrace. This is a choice she made. Do you go to the gym and work out three hours a day, five days a week? I sat next to an older lady who weighs about 150 pounds. She ate a lot of food, was still eating when I finished and was fixing more food to take home and eat again. She doesn't exercise and eats a bowl of ice cream each night. She said she can't gain weight while someone else would gain weight.

  • The fact that she had already proven that she was capable of losing the weight without surgery (as per she had already done it) should have gotten her denied for the surgery.

  • @Goatacon Why? People have cosmetic surgery - like breast enlargement - & very few people are judgmental about it. If surgery can help, why not? Why are people so vicious about this? They feel bad enough about themselves as it is. Science should be used to improve people's health. We all have SOMETHING we don't like about ourselves. Acne. A speech impediment. Alcoholism. Sometimes it is a hidden thing. Obesity is obvious. I applaud her for doing something about it.

  • THES ONE BIG CAT!!

  • If she was a normal weight when she was younger, she would have been a knock-out.

  • @ImoenOfTelengard She was a knock out! And she is now.

  • She looks gorgeous for 46!

  • omg she managed to lose her weight all these while, i dont think she needed a surgery. i mean, she knows what she needs to do, she just chose not to maintain it.

  • @cantrellakate

No, she became obsessive about excercise.. 3 HOURS PER DAY for 5 DAYS A WEEK.. that is the excercise plan of a heavyweight boxer or olympic athlete.. not a regular person

  • @cantrellakate you cant understand how difficult it is to maintain your weight after losing 100 pounds. i lost 110 pounds and i managed to stay in a normal weight range. its the most difficult thing ive ever done. first off, your stomach never returns to its original size after you lose the weight so you hardly ever feel full, this is what this surgery is here for,to make you know when you ate enough.scientist believe we all have a genetically predetermined weight that our body tries to achieve

  • "These people are entitled to a service that could help them improve the quality of their lives."

Entitled because of a poor lifestyle choice that they themselves made. Awesome train of thought there. Fat ass socialism.

  • fat people smell funny.

  • Good on you. Hope your living a healthier and happier life.

  • The epidemic of obesity is caused by the factors that can’t be attributed to life style.

  • God damn, how much was this bitch eating?

  • @Frances3654 way too much

  • this kind of surgery for her is great because she done everything to lose weight and she did great .... but some ppl just become fatter and fatter and then give up and w8 on this surgery

  • @ninjaglasses Weren't you listening? She kept gaining it back no matter how much she Lost that's why she got the surgury

  • @RetroPrincess889 she kept gaining it back because she keeps going back to her unhealthy lifestyle. She doesn't have a strong enough will to change the way she lives.

  • @EyeHi your wrong about the genetics, it's about 33% genetics. Sometimes more

  • So sick of these people saying it is not their fault. 99% of the time it is their fault. Genes have almost nothing to do with it. It's people who are ignorant of the food they eat and of the exercise they do not get. 80%, yes 80% of staying slim is what you eat. These people eat WAY more calories than they need and they are getting no exercise.

I KNOW that many overweight people wonder why they are fat, as they eat their 2 bowls of icecream infront of the tv

  • @EyeHi AMEN you nailed it right there , and trust me I know and when i really got that?, i was ready to loose 55 kilo's with sports and a better and healthy food program

  • How could she have the surgery? She already proved to herself that she could lose the weight naturally. All she has to do is eat healthly food consistently.

  • nice cat u got there

  • geez to everyone who says being OBESE isnt their fault is fulla it....

nobodys forcing fatties to keep shovlin twinkies down their throat

  • @nawabmevans

Srsly! Nothing is forcing fat people to eat... except basic human instinct.

  • @daphnehatesderby well im a human and instinct isnt telling me to shovel food down my throaT

  • @nawabmevans

You never feel hungry? That's really weird. You should go get checked out by a doctor.

  • @daphnehatesderby i never said i feel hungry...

i just eat til im satisfied..

not till im full... and eat some more

  • @nawabmevans

Nobody eats until they're full and then eats more... except people with serious food addictions. You can become obese by just eating until you're satisfied.

  • @daphnehatesderby serious food addictions?

    like fat asses?

  • @nawabmevans

Yeah, most people who are addicted to food are overweight. Duh.

  • @daphnehatesderby hungry does not mean you have to stuff your self with junkfood! you need to burn the calories you eat that simple

  • @hillena

Being obese doesn't mean you eat junkfood. Regular food has calories too, you know.

  • @daphnehatesderby yeah and if you consume too many calories good or bad food you get fat, simple...do the math ...you need to burn what you eat, trust me I know... I lost over a 100 pounds

  • @hillena

No, freaking way?! If you eat more calories than you burn, you get fat?! SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! I had no idea. Wow. Thank you for telling me! I can finally lose weight now that I know the secret! You're a life saver! No joke. Honestly, thank you.

  • @daphnehatesderby well you do not even have a front door because you can not even get out so get your self a treadmill and we will see who can close the front door I lost 55 kilo's what have you lost? HUH??!!!

  • @hillena

I exercise every day. Just because you're a fat ass who never exercises doesn't mean everybody else lives like you.

  • @daphnehatesderby still you did not tell how much weight you lost!, hahahahaha see I can say I lost 55KILO"S moron , you probably exercise with a bag of french fries , go get your self a Mc Donalds Big Tasty Bacon freak, you sit at the computer all day watching other people do sports and loose weight , frustrating your pathetic little mind with how do WE do it, good day loser you are going into ignore mode hahahaha

  • @hillena If I were you, I wouldn't be proud of losing 55kilos. You must have A TON of baggy skin and stretch marks. That's sooo gross! You're probably sooo disgusting to look at. Ahahahahaha!

  • @hillena wow, losing weight hasn't made you a better speller, or less of an a-hole. congrats, I'm so envious. Maybe if I lose weight, I can tell other people on youtube that they're losers too. One can only hope.

  • @hillena You might have lost weight but you've still got severe issues...

  • And you're still a dickhead. Least she was able to lose weight, you will always be a dickhead

  • and i thought australians were s'posed to be hot

  • lol well some of us have to change that idealism don't we lol

  • I used to be obese but Iost 55 pounds and 10 inches off my waist only through diet and exercise over a period of time. I'm actually against any kind of weight loss surgery for myself. I can't speak for other people. However, I think any kind of weight loss surgery is pointless because people still ultimately have to manage their relationship with food, such as calories in, calories out. I would never resort to getting any kind of surgery if I know I can fix the "problem" myself.

  • Weight loss surgery has saved lives, but it should only be considered as an absolute last resort.

  • @ncfwhitetigress surgery is the easy way out! I am so very proud that I did not choose surgery I lost more than 100 pounds in 10 months, obese people need to know what they put in their mouth!

  • People who say that surgery is cheating in some way don't appreciate that we only get one life.

If being obese ruins that one life then it should be fixed, if you can't stick to a diet and exercise then why not trymedical intervention?

Surgery should be a last option, but it should still be an option.

  • "My diet now is not a diet, it's a lifestyle". THAT is the most important thing.

  • cat is fat :)

  • Good job - you did what you needed to have a life of quality - bravo!!!!

  • Both mother and daughter are just beautiful!

  • The sad side of very fat people, who lose really much weight, after the 20 or 25 year old, is the kin excess. Many people end with a lot of excess of skin and need surgery to remove. Large evident scars always happen when removing skin excess.

  • I'd consider the surgery if I hadn't read about a study that says about 5% of people who get the gastric bypass surgery die withing 1 or 2 years after having the operation resulting from complications.

  • dunno about her.. but her daughter certainly looks good :P

  • This is very bad science.

"First of all, do no harm." -Hippocrates.

Science can help us to lose weight in many ways that do not involve the destruction of healthy and necessary organs.

I hope Science Central will do another video illustrating the downside of radical weight-loss surgery, so that people who saw this success story don't think that this is a healthy choice and a glowing endorsement.

I find it interesting that the patient seemed to have no trouble to lose weight in a natural way.

  • you obviously have such a bias against the procedure that didn't hear the video properly. she couldn't lose weight normally, if an adult woman has to work out for 3 hours daily just to keep her weight normal its a problem. thats the kind of workout you do for a living. this is usually a problem of genetics or glands. thats not to say it doesn't have risks or, like you mentioned or having to take vitamins for the rest of her life because her body no longer absorbs them from food.

  • Your either very fat or very thin. If your fat you cant accept that 3 hours a day is required. If your thin you cant comprehend it and have probably just been very lucky with a super metabolism. The fact is 3 hours a day is not obscence and the reason why we have such a big obesity problem is that for a large number of people this mch exercise is necessary and was normal thousands of years ago in a hunter gatherer society.

  • i'm neither, and i used to workout more than 3 hours daily on top of my job, which is fairly physical. i am however 1 of those people who can gain weight very easily. if u eat a balanced diet and do normal housework ( assuming shes a stay at home mom) then 3 hours is a lot. to lose weight i have to eat a diet of less than 1500 calories because of the way my body handles fat.

  • wtf sorry guys only pressed it once geuss it glitched

  • good job

  • wow

  • I have perthes disease in both of my legs, which disables me from getting any form of regular exercise so I'm about 70 pounds overweight, and I'm now considering getting the bypass surgery.

  • "Most people have the misconception that overweight people are lazy and just don't try hard enough, but that's not the case at all"

that was exactly the case for me. i ate to much and never exercised. now that I eat right and exercise an hour a day im down 40 pounds from what i was at my heaviest.

having a 6 pack and pecs ftw

  • And you did it without surgery !!!!! FTW!!!!!

  • I know three women that underwent the same gastric bypass. Together they have lost almost 250 pounds in 8 months. And their weigt stays down.

  • my story is quite the contrary, i try to be lazy and eat a lot but i just cant get past the 140 pounds. according to my doctor my ideal weight is 180... what an irony huh?

  • Most on the time its not their fault but some times it is.

  • This is true. This video almost mirrors my life (sans the baby). I lost ~100# in 2002, only to gain almost all of it back now.

After I lost the weight, I studied how much I could eat and maintain that weight. With working out 1 hour, 4 times a week, I could only eat ~1800 calories a day without gaining anything. Ask any man that weighs 190# if they could get by on 1800 calories a day. Some men can eat 3500 calories a day and not gain weight. Not me. I'm considering the bypass surgery.

  • Bucknik, I congratulate you for finding out what amount of calories makes you overweight!

Keep eating right and exercising, and have fun while you are at it!

If you get the surgery you would have to get by with a lot less than than 1800 cal a day , plus you would have to take vitamins to compensate for the vitamins that your missing intestines would then not be able to get from your food.

I don't think it's the cake walk that this video seems to portray. GOOD LUCK!

  • @UnholySavagery Most of the time it is their fault:/ Most of the time they just make a ton of excuses. I'm not as skinny as I want to be but I know it's because I eat to much junk food not because because of some obscure genetic disorder or water retaining or whatever.

  • @rasteely

You are correct of one point. That not controlling the food you eat will lead to obesity. As someone who has battled this for my entire life, and being 180lbs by the time I was 8 years old, and now recently lose 150lbs, it goes far beyond just the food. Obesity stems from a mental disorder in the way that we take in food. We need food to live, but just like alcoholics, or any addiction food can then become a coping mechanism for something far greater, such as abuse. ...

  • @rasteely (Con..) It's not so clearly cut/dry. I became obese by the time I was 6. I did not willingly create an eating habit and by this past year it has become something far uncontrollable. Health is incredibly important and that is why I chose life, and had to deal with the way I used food as a crutch and not for it's actual purpose. Please understand that everyone's journey in life is different.

  • @Ellewilliams Food must cause a bigger addiction than I understand. A mental disorder sounds right if you're not able to control yourself. I like to eat a lot personally and I know that it's sometimes hard to control that. I dont' think I'm at the point that I personally have a mental disorder though. But I guess some people do and I should be more sympathatic to it.

  • @UnholySavagery Most of the time it IS their fault. They have a choice not to over eat.

  • @UnholySavagery Its their fault everytime unless they have a genetic disorder in which their body cant process food or somthing. Other than cases like that its mostly their fault

  • nice story
