So why should people buy FWD Alfas, FWD Renault, FWD VW, FWD Citroens for the exact same price again? Top Gear Cliches are worth getting those over an GT86? el oh el
I love this video!!!! its just breath taking, the driving shots, 7500rpm, led and HID lights, the 6 speed stick, and the song just made an amazing climax that brainfucked me, its a must buy. Please i need to have the name of this song if anybody knows it .
All these designers at Toyota..... why can't they design the car from their heart? ft86 ii concept looked so good. They hired subaru for the engine and they should've hired some hyundai people for design inspiration. I don't know why toyota doesn't like to take risks with styling. Common toyota ....design the car with your heart. ignore the mind for a few seconds. When it comes to love , do people love something from the bottom of their mind or HEART?... thank you.
Toyota/Subaru did a great job on this car, i'd even place it right up there with those timeless classics like the Escort Cosworth, The Original AE86, The Skyline GT-R's. It's that great... The other thing i also liked was that Toyota/Subaru didn't go for the typical retro design, thus making it heavy and big. Nope they held to the original recipe which was perfect in the first place:
@santclause1 You are sooo right ! Most companies and even most people buying those cars are so looking besides the point .
It's all about having fun and have the right tool to do so ...and power doesn't equal fun .
Most people nowadays forget what driving a car is all about , even on normal roads .
It doesn't matter if you have a m3 an evo , it's all about how you can use it! Most of these owners aren't even capable of getting the most fun out of it ...i pity them!
@deathfromabove555 Don't you see? This IS the Supra, this is the Celica AND the MR2. This car is everything Toyota has been trying to achieve; a reasonably priced sports car with character and style that makes everyone love it.
I now have 2011 Alfa Giulietta which is great , but i think that thins one might just be a follower! I really like how it looks and the spec are nice 2 !
Now if you look at the GT 86 concept in Frankfurt, THAT is the car I would have like to see. But I dare say it would have been much more expensive. Oh well, can't win them all, and can't please all of the people all of the time.
Well, I don't mind it. I quite like it, but it's not edgy enough for me, nothing about it makes me go WOW, but then you get what you pay for. Can't help but feel that toyota were trying to play it a little too safe.
The rear looks like a Corolla Verso which isn't a good thing, it looks foul from the back, the front is okay but why would you completely change the design, white rear tail lights, It's not a Mazda, to be honest it ruins the car completely, it looks like two different cars, an elegant car at one and a grumpy looking hog from the other, some inbred Lexus LFA and final generation Celica, it looks like horse shit,
this car was made to sort of ''revive'' the old AE86 trueno which was kinda a great car for drifting and racing(if tunned properly).look at it,low weight, the power/weight ratio,RWD,and the kind of low amount of horsepower it has
i want the handling of this car to make up for the 200 "naturally-aspirated" horses... if it does deliver that, it might just be one of the best budget sports cars
BTW, Toyota WILL have a high-performance version, thank to some upgrades from TRD. Expect aq supercharger with another 75HP, upgraded shocks, springs, brakes, wheel and tires.
Also expect a $30k price for that, or you can add what you need through Toyota TRD Parts catalog, if you have already purchased the standard FRS
Fuck you toyota, I've never been so disappointed. This looks nothing like what we were promised. I couldn't wait until this car was launched from all the concepts we were shown and they finalize with this model..
@DubRavezor it's a boxer engine, and I'm aware that this car is cross-platform under three brands. Toyota owns about 17% of Subaru. But nonetheless, I feel like this car along with the other two will be very popular.
Personally, the car looks awesome, frankly I'm a bit surprised at the low power output I was expecting the Subaru to have an official upper spec with about 200kw. But from what the insiders at Toyota have been saying the car is being designed to be modded. I guess they're setting up the basics
I'm guessing this might be the last ever JDM ride that is ever going to offer a petrol engine only. After this car, I think all new sports cars from Mitsubishi, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and Mazda are going to be hybrids. Isn't it sad?
All you haters that want more power, more rubber, more 'more' can just go spend your $30k+ on another brand. The market has needed a cheap, reliable, 4-seat, LIGHT, RWD car since 1987, when the original 8-6 was castrated to FWD. Have you no history?
Bitch and moan all you want; you miss the point of this car entirely.
Fun = Power/Weight/Traction Balance. More of each is just money and pride.
Im disappointed. All designs of this car I had seen sofar were great because they all showed a car making a real stand. But now it seems that a toyota-manager analyzed in the numbers that the market will probably have greater demand for the car when it has a shittier design and becomes just another ordinary car in a billion. Sad to see the final castrated car that once was meant to be a drift-car, coming from japanese drift-sport and now it neither looks like drift, nor has the power for drift.
It is expected of a design to be toned down from the concept but what toyota did here was cut the back end off and redesigned it to look like a redesigned celica. What happened to the rear diffuser and tail lights? The reason why I liked the concept was because of the maturity in the edginess without making it look too futuristic. Looks like toyota tried slapping on cheap aftermarket parts for the buyer (tail lights and rims.) This is the birth of something new, so make it that way.
@755hp The only way this thing is getting my respect is if the Subaru BRZ comes in Turbo STi trim. Another 2 liter 197hp/151lb-ft torqueless wonder doesn't get my respect. I dont care if it does weight 2700lbs
It should have gotten atleast the WRX's 265hp plant!!
@Viking445 your GTI has 300lb-ft of torque? in naturally aspirated engines torque is limited by the design and size of the engine, unlike HP which can just increase with more RPMs. pure breed sports cars max out at 80lb-ft of torque per liter of engine (example: s54b32), while race cars can do 90lb-ft. 70lb-ft is about average for a good commuter/fuel efficient/reliable/daily driver... i suppose the only reason there is no initial turbo is because of cost. but you can always have one added
@lostaznking Yes it does. I have a KO4 kit on it. So my little 2.0L GTI makes 290hp/300lb-ft at the wheels. It also still gets 29mpg on the freeway and pulls high 12's at around 108-110mph. But on the stock little turbo you can get 250hp/280lb-ft at the wheels with just a chip and bolt ons. Thats why I'm disgusted with them for not boosting it. Its gonna be soooo much more expensive to turbo it, plus the 6spd rear diff are made to handle 150lb-ft...not 300.
@Viking445 Subaru probably didn't want the BRZ to out perform the WRX because Toyota wanted to sell a cheap RWD car. if Toyota sold their car cheap it wouldn't make since for Subaru to sell the same car for more, who would buy it? and if the FRS had a turbo (probably the same one in the WRX) then it would most likely come close or out perform the WRX which would undercut Subaru sales right? idk we haven't heard much from subby, they might have a higher price point with a turbo then the toyota
@Viking445 wait nvm the BRZ is getting the same engine as the FRS no word it it will have a turbo option... where did you get the specs for the 6 speed tranny?
@lostaznking I didn't get the specs I'm just hoping its as beefy as the 6spd in the the wrx sti b/c that thing can handle 500hp with just a tough clutch.
@Viking445 What you're saying is understandable however, had Toyota or Subaru boosted these cars from the factory, insurance rates could rise through the ROOF! If power is what you desire (as well as myself) from this car, then you can rely on the aftermarket support that will surely cover this vehicle well.
@755hp Insurance rates on this thing are gonna be sky high regardless of the NA/Turbo factor. This thing is gonna be snatched up by every high school kid who can sweet talk their parents. exp.. Scion Tc.
I'm sure it will become the new darling of the tuner scene but unless Subaru has pulled their head out of their ass the internals (mainly the pistons) will be shit and wont stand up to boost well. That means a grand or so for a built motor+a turbo kit to get close to my target of 200hp/ton
@Viking445 You're concerns about the piston's strength are the same concerns I have.
Although, if I had to be worried about boost, it would be the compression ratio (12.5:1); though there might be a solution. Simply by adding a thicker headgasket, you'd decrease the compression ratio as you'd be increasing the head-space thus allowing more volume for boost when the piston is at TDC.
Hopefully we get forged pistons, cause even with a high compression ratio the boost can then be turned up!
@755hp Ya the thicker head gasket is a trick I know VW people use on the VR6 motors and the S2000 when boosting them. I just hope the BRZ STi happens and that it is boosted from Japan. It will only take about $2000 to extract 25% more power out of it. Plus with the wimpy state of the motor I wonder how strong the driveline is. How long before the clutch goes, or the diff shreds itself? Is the 6spd as stout as the unit in the current wrx sti? if so then awesome.
@lostaznking There will be there three versions (name badging) of this car:
(1) Toyota GT86
(2) Subaru BRZ
(3) Scion FR-S
Essentially, it is the same car.The Toyota GT86 will be sold in Europe and Japan; the Subaru BRZ will be sold worldwide (I think) and the Scion FR-S will be sold in the U.S. The idea behind different badging is for market appeal.
@Mtn86 Well, you gotta realize that they can't exactly make something like that for 20-25ks. My guess is that if this sells well, they'll make a Supra next.
@racer4nfs not a supra. its the next ae86...look it up pretty much anywhere and everywhere. this is why at all the motor shows the ae86 was sittin right next to it. im not sure where the idea of celica came from and i have heard it many times...but this is the next 86. and like someone said, thats why its in the badging.
Wtf? Im so confused, the FT-86 2011 Concept looked so much nicer. I have been following the progression for awhile now and the concept kept on getting better and better. Now THIS? what the hell happend?
Everything on the concept was aesthetically nicer to me. The front, the rear, it had the LOOK. That asian designer dude explained how the latest concept would is basically what it would almost look like, but to me, this is completely reworked. I actually hate this design.
@HawK271080 It's not a Celica, the GT-86 is inspired by the AE-86, HENCE THE REDUNDANT NAME. It's meant to be a drivers car, It's not a FWD garbage like the Celica had been in it's last 10 years of life. Only Celicas that I ever give respect to are the first gen 70's Celica, and the GT-Four/All Trac AWD variants. Apart from that they slowly turned into econoboxes, with sporty styling, then eventually garbage with the last gen ones. THIS IS THE NEW HACHIROKU. NOT the Celica, NOT the new Supra.
im sorry but toyota fucked it up. the concept was so much nicer, the rear end is ugly the pipes are too small, the wheels need to be fatter, and the arches should be way more flared, the front is okay but they could of put a front lip to make it more aggressive, however the interior is truly outstanding. and im sorry but an un-turbocharged engine in a car like this is unacceptable. i hope they come out with a TRD variant that will have 300 turbocharged horses.
@Carrera911Fan You must have ZERO sense. A concept is a concept, period. Remember, this is Toyota and if you want to do all of those things that Toyota could have done, you can. I am wondering if you have ever heard of an aftermarket community...I can explain.
An aftermarket manufacturer builds products available to buyers who prefer to customize their vehicle. If you want fatter wheels (whatever that means) it can be done, if you want more flare in your arches, roll them yourself. Rant is done
@chupacabratx ok smartass go slap on a turbo on ur newly bought car and void the warranty, but dont go crying to your dealership when ur fucking engine breaks down
@S1rKneighf apparently it does. Same stuff with Lamborghini man it's an Audi engine they use so it's not so special a toyota has a Subaru engine stuff like that happens allot more.
Its a good looking car for a Toyota but its a far cry from the FT-86 which had edgier, ballsier styling. Typical of commitee watered down styling. I hope the Subaru version is worthy of the promise of the excitement. I hope they perform as hyped.
Looks like they merged a GTR into a BMW 1 series.. and not in a good way... Cmon Toyota, it's not like you can't design nice looking cars!!

Viking445 2 months ago
@Viking445 Subaru probably didn't want the BRZ to out perform the WRX because Toyota wanted to sell a cheap RWD car. if Toyota sold their car cheap it wouldn't make since for Subaru to sell the same car for more, who would buy it? and if the FRS had a turbo (probably the same one in the WRX) then it would most likely come close or out perform the WRX which would undercut Subaru sales right? idk we haven't heard much from subby, they might have a higher price point with a turbo then the toyota
lostaznking 2 months ago
@Viking445 wait nvm the BRZ is getting the same engine as the FRS no word it it will have a turbo option... where did you get the specs for the 6 speed tranny?
lostaznking 2 months ago
@lostaznking I didn't get the specs I'm just hoping its as beefy as the 6spd in the the wrx sti b/c that thing can handle 500hp with just a tough clutch.
Viking445 2 months ago
@Viking445 What you're saying is understandable however, had Toyota or Subaru boosted these cars from the factory, insurance rates could rise through the ROOF! If power is what you desire (as well as myself) from this car, then you can rely on the aftermarket support that will surely cover this vehicle well.
755hp 2 months ago
@755hp Insurance rates on this thing are gonna be sky high regardless of the NA/Turbo factor. This thing is gonna be snatched up by every high school kid who can sweet talk their parents. exp.. Scion Tc.
I'm sure it will become the new darling of the tuner scene but unless Subaru has pulled their head out of their ass the internals (mainly the pistons) will be shit and wont stand up to boost well. That means a grand or so for a built motor+a turbo kit to get close to my target of 200hp/ton
Viking445 2 months ago
@Viking445 Not high-school kids. Parents aren't that stupid. University grad, maybe.
rivengle 2 months ago
@Viking445 You're concerns about the piston's strength are the same concerns I have.
Although, if I had to be worried about boost, it would be the compression ratio (12.5:1); though there might be a solution. Simply by adding a thicker headgasket, you'd decrease the compression ratio as you'd be increasing the head-space thus allowing more volume for boost when the piston is at TDC.
Hopefully we get forged pistons, cause even with a high compression ratio the boost can then be turned up!
755hp 2 months ago
@755hp Ya the thicker head gasket is a trick I know VW people use on the VR6 motors and the S2000 when boosting them. I just hope the BRZ STi happens and that it is boosted from Japan. It will only take about $2000 to extract 25% more power out of it. Plus with the wimpy state of the motor I wonder how strong the driveline is. How long before the clutch goes, or the diff shreds itself? Is the 6spd as stout as the unit in the current wrx sti? if so then awesome.
Viking445 2 months ago
@755hp i thought it was a scion now?
lostaznking 2 months ago
@lostaznking There will be there three versions (name badging) of this car:
(1) Toyota GT86
(2) Subaru BRZ
(3) Scion FR-S
Essentially, it is the same car.The Toyota GT86 will be sold in Europe and Japan; the Subaru BRZ will be sold worldwide (I think) and the Scion FR-S will be sold in the U.S. The idea behind different badging is for market appeal.

Wrap your mind around this: a GC STI had 270hp, awd, lots of tech... and yet it weighed lighter than this.
Tohafat 2 months ago
@Tohafat The newest GC would have been a 2000. This car needs 12 years of safety and MPG regulations that the GC8 didn't.

No me gusta. I was expecting a subaru sti disguised as a new-age supra. Instead, all they deliver is strong a competitor for the hyundai genesis.
Mtn86 2 months ago

Toyota :*(

@Sambo113 Then look at the FR-S, it keeps more of the original concept styling.
bob333336 2 months ago
@Sambo113 Meh the concept was extremely gaudy and immature looking. The back did look better but the front looks better now at least.

THE CELICA IS BAAACKK YEEEEEESSSSS WITH THE LFA FRONT :D NIICEEEE GOOD JOB TOYOTA FOR THE GT86
HawK271080 2 months ago

Welcome back AE86 Corolla. But where's the new Supra?
aestheticstorm 2 months ago
im sorry but toyota fucked it up. the concept was so much nicer, the rear end is ugly the pipes are too small, the wheels need to be fatter, and the arches should be way more flared, the front is okay but they could of put a front lip to make it more aggressive, however the interior is truly outstanding. and im sorry but an un-turbocharged engine in a car like this is unacceptable. i hope they come out with a TRD variant that will have 300 turbocharged horses.
Carrera911Fan 2 months ago

@S1rKneighf yea rite... GT-R Spec-V>>>>Subaru WRX STI >>>> Toyota
ItzIRiix 2 months ago
@ItzIRiix
It's nothing like that.
It's a Toyota with a Subaru engine. Does it really deserve the name 86?
S1rKneighf 2 months ago
@S1rKneighf apparently it does. Same stuff with Lamborghini man it's an Audi engine they use so it's not so special a toyota has a Subaru engine stuff like that happens allot more.
ItzIRiix 2 months ago
@ItzIRiix
Sure it happens, but in the case of Lambo they only share tech, the engine is made and assembled in italy.
For me, this thing does not deserve the name and the connotation that it has been given.
S1rKneighf 2 months ago
I fuckin' love that interior... If I buy one, the I'll probably lower the car and put larger wheels but that's all... This thing is really cool!

Its a good looking car for a Toyota but its a far cry from the FT-86 which had edgier, ballsier styling. Typical of commitee watered down styling. I hope the Subaru version is worthy of the promise of the excitement. I hope they perform as hyped.
