There is a difference, if you listen closely to this version, when he is fighting on the cliff edge and loses, the organ sound/horn drags on longer than the soundtrack version. It's hard to explain with little knowledge with instruments, but if you listen closely it's there, because this is the version I've been looking after, ever since I saw the film itself.

Thanks for posting this up. I always loved the more quiet part of the song (during Alice's scene), and I was disappointed that it wasn't on the soundtrack.

This music strikes a real cord deep down. I think it was perfectly done with the movie. However, it makes me think of how things were back then and how far we have come as people. It's good and bad! When you can't quite put your finger on how music makes you feel then it's good music to me. I run and work out to this music and I can listen to it over and over again.
The music in this film is one of the greatest soundtracks of all time. It ranks up there with Star Wars, Gladiator, and a select few where the music is practically a character in the movie. So much emotion and personality to this music, it's flawless.

Damn i wish I could download this somewhere. This 8 minute version is my all time favorite version. On the re release soundtrack in 2000 this version is shortened to 5 mins and 30 seconds. The original soundtrack in 1992 was about 6 minutes but it wasn't near as good as this version. I like putting great movie scores on CD so if anyone has any recommendations feel feel to tell me about some others.

You obviously did not pay attention in the film. He explains early on that his real parents were killed and he was adopted by the older Native American he is with in the film.

Michael Mann is a master at using a gripping scene with a powerful soundtrack and little if any dialogue, at a films climax. He did it all the time on Miami Vice in the 1980,s. Jan Hammer,s custom soundtrack pulsed as Crockett and Tubbs dispatched the druggies, and hardly a word spoken. Ditto with the showdown between Pacino and Deniro in 1985,s Heat. He really outdid himself in LOTM. I think it is in my view, the most powerful conclusion ever. By far my all time favorite movie.
You can't understand this music,get its emotional impact unless you see the connected scenes in the film: the desperate pursuit of the Hurons with their captives by Hawkeye and the Mohicans,, the horrifying deaths of Uncas and Alice, and then, finally, of Magua. It is a "silent" film for almost 8 minutes: action only, no dialogue. John Ford would have approved. Mann is a great director; acting is great too. Greatest ending of a film that I know--even beats the ending of Ford's "The Searchers"

Damn i wish I could download this somewhere. This 8 minute version is my all time favorite version. On the re release soundtrack in 2000 this version is shortened to 5 mins and 30 seconds. The original soundtrack in 1992 was about 6 minutes but it wasn't near as good as this version. I like putting great movie scores on CD so if anyone has any recommendations feel feel to tell me about some others.

i could sit and listen ti this all night...it touch's my soul...i love music....its my life...how can i live without my life....how can i live without my soul..if you like this please check out the theme from whuthering heights...it is right up ther with this sound track...even better watch the film...juliet binoche and ralph finnes...it will break your heart as im sure this film did

When I was young I told my father "this movie is quite boring" he replied "when you come of age, you will understand it." Only when I seen this movie again n my teens did I realize it was a good movie.
Note: I am not saying when I was young, I didn't comprehend it, I was an inattentiveness individual, being n the state of ennui generally often.
Why is it *some* Caucasian pple r fascinated with Native Americans, U can say Hated them while they were living but Love them while they are dead.

to all those out there who would like this music. ive heard of a software programe where you can transfer youtube videos into mp3 format. this is a lovely piece of music and if you want it search for the software. if you find it and it works its yours!

My God, what a beautiful piece of music. If this does not touch your emotions than you are probably dead. I come here often and listen to it. Thanks for posting it. Since I cannot buy the long version I guess I'll have to download it.

The character played by daniel day lewis is a native americans adoptive white son, if your going to make comments about the movie you really should have actually seen it

I was simply rebutting someone who said that Daniel Day lewis was playing a Native American character when he did not. Also thank you for commenting on something i wrote months ago, it's a good song.

Hawkeye was adopted my Mohicans. His real parents were English colonists.

You obviously did not pay attention in the film. He explains early on that his real parents were killed and he was adopted by the older Native American he is with in the film.

I'm not sure, on the officiel soundtrack there is "Fort Battle" and "the kiss", maybe this is what you're looking for?

Michael Mann is a master at using a gripping scene with a powerful soundtrack and little if any dialogue, at a films climax. He did it all the time on Miami Vice in the 1980,s. Jan Hammer,s custom soundtrack pulsed as Crockett and Tubbs dispatched the druggies, and hardly a word spoken. Ditto with the showdown between Pacino and Deniro in 1985,s Heat. He really outdid himself in LOTM. I think it is in my view, the most powerful conclusion ever. By far my all time favorite movie.

Actually Heat was released in 1995, not 1985. You're right about Mann being able to do that though.

You can't understand this music,get its emotional impact unless you see the connected scenes in the film: the desperate pursuit of the Hurons with their captives by Hawkeye and the Mohicans,, the horrifying deaths of Uncas and Alice, and then, finally, of Magua. It is a "silent" film for almost 8 minutes: action only, no dialogue. John Ford would have approved. Mann is a great director; acting is great too. Greatest ending of a film that I know--even beats the ending of Ford's "The Searchers"
