I was lucky enough to have seen Queen play live in 1986, "The Magic Tour" absolute class! and then was priveleged enough to have been at Freddies Tribute Concert in 1992. Gone, but his music lives on!!!!!
This song is beautiful, not just because it's a musical masterpiece but because of what it represents. The hope that someday, mankind will forget it's petty divisions and realize that our only hope for survival is true unity... One nation.

This is a good song but, that last verse made the song from a meaning of inspirational, uplifting grandeur of peace into, really, wtf was that, fried chicken?

Such a cool song! FRIED CHICKEN!!!! I really like that part but I can never say it, 'cos I'm a vegetarian..... But it would be PERFECT for a KFC commercial!
@Nevordan "It was originally written by Roger Taylor about Martin Luther King, Jr., and includes lyrical references to King's "I Have a Dream" speech delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. in 1963." If you believe Wikipedia
@GADGETRONsc Yes they do. Because their producer pushed them to do so . Because they were used to eat fried chicken at the end of one vision sessions.
@AndreaBorto Thnx for telling me. Everyone was like "what? they don't say fried chicken at the end they say one vision, your an idiot" But now I and only I know the truth *Evil Laugh* XD
@Megashockzz Any one know why he says that at the end of the song? I know he had an odd sense of humor, but I'm sure there is a reason for it. A bet perhaps? I've always wondered.
@GunnySGT1911 Throughout the production of the song, which can be seen on youtube :) you see Freddie rehearsing with the band singing lines like "one dump, two turds, two tits, John Deacon" lol, obviously displaying his sense of humour. I heard that the "fried chicken" line was kept as a reflection of not only the sense of humour of the band but the general production process of the song. Check out the vid and you will see what I mean :) I do think that it was probs random unless otherwise known
@mercuryforeva Actually it was Freddies lover, Jim Hutton, who said to use the line "Fried Chicken" at the end of the song because they were accomplished enough to be able to get away with it, have a bit of fun, not take themselves so seriously and to get back at the media for the crap they'd been dishing about Queen for years - especially New Music Express (NME). This was just a gentle poke of fun as it had been a long drawn-out shoot and Jim happened to say "Keep that line."
@paedr1 mmm, where did you read that? the reason why I ask is during the vid Freddie burst out with allsorts of funny comical lines, although I don't dispute Jim saying "keep that line" just interested where you read it :) Also, Queen would never take themselves seriously, look at the crazy outfits they wore in the 70's! Spandex, dove outfits the lot, they were all about doing what the hell they wanted, whenever they wanted eh. They were the non comformists of music :)
@mercuryforeva Jim Huttons book " Mercury and Me" Freddie had been larking around with the lyrics and Jim said to him " Why don't you just keep that 'Fried Chicken' line. And so Freddie did. If you have a look at the Mercury Tribute Concert you can see a banner or two with that line painted on it. And you're right - Queen never took themselves seriously, just their music. Look at Live-Aid '85 and see the band perform to the world, who knew every word to every song. Class!
@paedr1 I wouldn't actually believe everything in the book you know, solely due to scepticism surrounding whether Jim was trying to make money out of Freddie's death. Jim also said that the "I still love you" line in these are the days was dedicated to him; I don't agree with that as Im sure that was dedicated to alot of people including Mary Austin of whom got half of Freddie's estate, shown where Freddie's loyalties lay overall. I have no doubt Freddie really admired Jim though :)
@mercuryforeva True, true and true. Jim did (Kinda) cash in on his affair with Freddie ( for money for HIV treatment ), but he also wanted people to know who he was in relation to Queens frontman. Mary WAS Freddies true love, but Jim had a special place in his heart too. Now, the book, Mercury and Me, was written rather hastily by Jim Hutton and a ghost writer, but 75% was true and the other 25% was the ghost writers addition.
@paedr1 You know I'd say the tone was a bit me me me on Jims behalf if you know what I mean as if you watch the interviews he often spoke in that way i.e. "I still love you was dedicated to me" and what I thought was distasteful was the disclosure of private things regarding the sexual positions Freddie liked the most. We all know freddie was a private person. However, Mary Austin I believe was most loyal and didn't show up at every opportunity self gloryfying herself in interviews.
@paedr1 I don't know how accurate the Mercury and Me book is. No doubt there is truths, but how could we completely prove something. I think the most trustworthy people are the bandmembers themselves persoanlly speaking; not even Peter Freestone you know, i sense something about that guy although again there is no doubt Peter loved Fred! The ones you get the most sense out of is Peter Straker and elton john I believe of whom were freddie other really close male friends.
@mercuryforeva And they know how to keep a secret those two!:)! To death and beyond. We'll never really know just how much was self-aggrandisement on Jims part, ourselves, because we weren't there. But I'd like to think that Freddie was at least content in his final years and that someone, whomever, loved him.
@paedr1 Mary and Peter do? or Freddie and elton? haha. Hwat I mean is, you can often get the impression. All we have to do is listen to what fred said "I regard Mary as my cmmon law wife" from his interviews, he seems happy with whom he spent his later years. I agree with you, it's difficult to say, but I bet if we sat down with Mary and had a chat or maybe even people like Brian, we are more likely to get less self appreciation :) perhaps! haha
@paedr1 Yeh I saw a banner at the tribute concert also saying "chicken feed babe" another one vision line left out haha :) and I agree Live Aid was class, just unfortunate I wasn't born to see it. I do love Queen so much! I agree Queen at the end of the day performed when it mattered and beat everyone in the process usually, i.e. live aid. I have only read a portion of the jim hutton book. i have read the David Bret version which is rather good :)
@mercuryforeva That's a bit scary - you not being born in time to see Live-Aid! Makes me OLD:(!!! It was a great concert, televised to the world ( the first time something like that had been done since the moon landing in 69 - I was only 3months old at the time that happened!! ) Queen ruled that concert, but everyone gave their all.
@paedr1 Haha makes you feel old? I would have gave everything to have seen my favourite band live! :) Just so happens i've seen Queen and Paul Rodgers (you may not like haha) saw 50% of my heros :p Yes when I saw Queen Live aid concert on video, that was the moment which hooked me permanently. You imagine a band like Queen today in the charts, they wouldn't have a clue how to take it, perhaps we need a re revolutionization!
@mercuryforeva Hahaha!! American Idle (pun) judge Simon Cowell said Mick Jagger wouldn't win A.I because he didn't have what people were looking for today. Sad, sad indictment on todays disposable muzak.
@paedr1 haha Simon Cowell said that? And now ironically since cowell has left, the show has got more rocky with the presence of Steven tyler! lol, a slap across the face for cowell as one of tyler's biggest influences is Jagger! haha muzak!!! It's almost as if that what people are always looking for is autotuned pseudo r n b I completely agree! Rubbish! The suffocation of the charts is just a forcing of distasteful crap down our throats, when up and coming bands are quite able and willing!
@mercuryforeva blame disco music of the 70's for today's dreck. Mainly The Bee Gees. ( Night Fever- say no more!! ) When music of the 70's was king ( metal, punk, rock and even pop ) a bunch of tight arses got frightened because kids were showing their individuality so they came up with a monotic drum beat to hypnotise the gullible, sub-audible tones to keep them in line and crap sounds with big titted bimbos lulling them into conformity. Beware the Sirens young Odysseus!!
@paedr1 Now I must say I like some of the old disco music as it wasn't and isn't as awful as say rhianna and bieber. I love some electronic music as the voices weren't autotuned, well the bands that I like from the 80's wasn't for example Human League; at least they created their own music! And at least the rock industry was still thriving with hard rock bands and then the glam metal bands of the lae 80's before the gullible driven music really took its toll with the big titty stuff. haha
@mercuryforeva I, too, love the music of the 80's and before, even bands who've diddled with the music by using synths and electronic pedals and drums, but I'm kind of a purist. Music, for me, died 24th Nov 1991 and nothing has compared since. Back down the rabbit-hole for me!!
@paedr1 I do love some of the electronic experimentist stuff as Queen themselves dabbled with in Hot Space of which was thought of as controversial for Queen to produce; I actually like it! and people don't realise that album had a direct influence on MJ's Thriller album of which Fred was gonna be in! I agree, nothing compares to Freddie and Queen, but i'm hopeful of something which can be as pure! Yes hard hitting raw music makes me feel great over everything else!
@paedr1 I Nothing can beat rock in my opinion and some old pop; and I am not a fan of the bee gees haha, I do like the song how deep is your love though :p Nothing beats rock though :D
@mercuryforeva Rock is King, no doubt. What saddens me is the lack of venues nowadays for up-and-coming bands to perform. Back in the olden days almost every pub had a band on Fri,Sat,Sun nights and people could rock-out to a live performance and watch something magical. I remember being in Ireland in 1980 and seeing a young fellow in a pub called Paul Hewson singing an old Irish song with his backing band. Can't remember what happened to him after that...
@paedr1 Yes I agree partly that there should be more focus on new up and coming bands, in England however, where I live, there are plenty of venues just not loads of emphasis on the performances to see. Same old issue with the charts i'm afraid preventing proper breakthroughs. I bet artsists come and go so much!
@mercuryforeva Well mate, I live in Australia, and the music scene here is rather pathetic now. We used to have good pub bands who've now gone on to bigger and better things - The Angels, Rose Tattoo, Screaming Jets etc- but now all we've got is nightclubs and trance music. Drop a couple of E's and get right into it. Ick! Not for me. Back in the olden days we used to have sawdust on the floors of pubs, cold beer and a live band. Nowadays there's only pokies and poseurs.
@paedr1 We have alot of the trance stuff too, but some clubs have different floors to suit your taste in music sometimes :) I do love a good live gig though I agree, and I wouldnt of thought australia would of got like that! My fave aussie band is INXS I love them! haha or when they had hutchence anyway. The music scene could be better here with regards to what I like; but there is always something there just not enough :/ i'm hopeful though :)
@paedr1 all this sampling bollocks, can't be doing with it, just away of making money off the backs of the artists that originally made the tunes eh! and claiming glory! for example vanilla ice!
@nihlous The music off today is not sad in the sense off want to cry or starting to being depressed there is just nothing any more in the music that they make today
and there are just no more bands that make such greath music in this kind of music today :(

anyone remember this from the sky sports ad from the early 90's?

@GADGETRONsc Yes they do. Because their producer pushed them to do so . Because they were used to eat fried chicken at the end of one vision sessions.
AndreaBorto 9 months ago
@AndreaBorto Thnx for telling me. Everyone was like "what? they don't say fried chicken at the end they say one vision, your an idiot" But now I and only I know the truth *Evil Laugh* XD

@Megashockzz Any one know why he says that at the end of the song? I know he had an odd sense of humor, but I'm sure there is a reason for it. A bet perhaps? I've always wondered.
GunnySGT1911 9 months ago
@GunnySGT1911 He says fried Chicken
1875HIBEESFC 9 months ago
@GunnySGT1911 Throughout the production of the song, which can be seen on youtube :) you see Freddie rehearsing with the band singing lines like "one dump, two turds, two tits, John Deacon" lol, obviously displaying his sense of humour. I heard that the "fried chicken" line was kept as a reflection of not only the sense of humour of the band but the general production process of the song. Check out the vid and you will see what I mean :) I do think that it was probs random unless otherwise known
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@mercuryforeva Actually it was Freddies lover, Jim Hutton, who said to use the line "Fried Chicken" at the end of the song because they were accomplished enough to be able to get away with it, have a bit of fun, not take themselves so seriously and to get back at the media for the crap they'd been dishing about Queen for years - especially New Music Express (NME). This was just a gentle poke of fun as it had been a long drawn-out shoot and Jim happened to say "Keep that line."
paedr1 9 months ago
@paedr1 mmm, where did you read that? the reason why I ask is during the vid Freddie burst out with allsorts of funny comical lines, although I don't dispute Jim saying "keep that line" just interested where you read it :) Also, Queen would never take themselves seriously, look at the crazy outfits they wore in the 70's! Spandex, dove outfits the lot, they were all about doing what the hell they wanted, whenever they wanted eh. They were the non comformists of music :)
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@mercuryforeva Jim Huttons book " Mercury and Me" Freddie had been larking around with the lyrics and Jim said to him " Why don't you just keep that 'Fried Chicken' line. And so Freddie did. If you have a look at the Mercury Tribute Concert you can see a banner or two with that line painted on it. And you're right - Queen never took themselves seriously, just their music. Look at Live-Aid '85 and see the band perform to the world, who knew every word to every song. Class!
paedr1 9 months ago
@paedr1 I wouldn't actually believe everything in the book you know, solely due to scepticism surrounding whether Jim was trying to make money out of Freddie's death. Jim also said that the "I still love you" line in these are the days was dedicated to him; I don't agree with that as Im sure that was dedicated to alot of people including Mary Austin of whom got half of Freddie's estate, shown where Freddie's loyalties lay overall. I have no doubt Freddie really admired Jim though :)
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@mercuryforeva True, true and true. Jim did (Kinda) cash in on his affair with Freddie ( for money for HIV treatment ), but he also wanted people to know who he was in relation to Queens frontman. Mary WAS Freddies true love, but Jim had a special place in his heart too. Now, the book, Mercury and Me, was written rather hastily by Jim Hutton and a ghost writer, but 75% was true and the other 25% was the ghost writers addition.
paedr1 9 months ago
@paedr1 You know I'd say the tone was a bit me me me on Jims behalf if you know what I mean as if you watch the interviews he often spoke in that way i.e. "I still love you was dedicated to me" and what I thought was distasteful was the disclosure of private things regarding the sexual positions Freddie liked the most. We all know freddie was a private person. However, Mary Austin I believe was most loyal and didn't show up at every opportunity self gloryfying herself in interviews.
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@paedr1 I don't know how accurate the Mercury and Me book is. No doubt there is truths, but how could we completely prove something. I think the most trustworthy people are the bandmembers themselves persoanlly speaking; not even Peter Freestone you know, i sense something about that guy although again there is no doubt Peter loved Fred! The ones you get the most sense out of is Peter Straker and elton john I believe of whom were freddie other really close male friends.
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@mercuryforeva And they know how to keep a secret those two!:)! To death and beyond. We'll never really know just how much was self-aggrandisement on Jims part, ourselves, because we weren't there. But I'd like to think that Freddie was at least content in his final years and that someone, whomever, loved him.
paedr1 9 months ago
@paedr1 Mary and Peter do? or Freddie and elton? haha. Hwat I mean is, you can often get the impression. All we have to do is listen to what fred said "I regard Mary as my cmmon law wife" from his interviews, he seems happy with whom he spent his later years. I agree with you, it's difficult to say, but I bet if we sat down with Mary and had a chat or maybe even people like Brian, we are more likely to get less self appreciation :) perhaps! haha
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@paedr1 Yeh I saw a banner at the tribute concert also saying "chicken feed babe" another one vision line left out haha :) and I agree Live Aid was class, just unfortunate I wasn't born to see it. I do love Queen so much! I agree Queen at the end of the day performed when it mattered and beat everyone in the process usually, i.e. live aid. I have only read a portion of the jim hutton book. i have read the David Bret version which is rather good :)
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@mercuryforeva That's a bit scary - you not being born in time to see Live-Aid! Makes me OLD:(!!! It was a great concert, televised to the world ( the first time something like that had been done since the moon landing in 69 - I was only 3months old at the time that happened!! ) Queen ruled that concert, but everyone gave their all.
paedr1 9 months ago
@paedr1 Haha makes you feel old? I would have gave everything to have seen my favourite band live! :) Just so happens i've seen Queen and Paul Rodgers (you may not like haha) saw 50% of my heros :p Yes when I saw Queen Live aid concert on video, that was the moment which hooked me permanently. You imagine a band like Queen today in the charts, they wouldn't have a clue how to take it, perhaps we need a re revolutionization!
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@mercuryforeva Hahaha!! American Idle (pun) judge Simon Cowell said Mick Jagger wouldn't win A.I because he didn't have what people were looking for today. Sad, sad indictment on todays disposable muzak.
paedr1 9 months ago
@paedr1 haha Simon Cowell said that? And now ironically since cowell has left, the show has got more rocky with the presence of Steven tyler! lol, a slap across the face for cowell as one of tyler's biggest influences is Jagger! haha muzak!!! It's almost as if that what people are always looking for is autotuned pseudo r n b I completely agree! Rubbish! The suffocation of the charts is just a forcing of distasteful crap down our throats, when up and coming bands are quite able and willing!
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@mercuryforeva blame disco music of the 70's for today's dreck. Mainly The Bee Gees. ( Night Fever- say no more!! ) When music of the 70's was king ( metal, punk, rock and even pop ) a bunch of tight arses got frightened because kids were showing their individuality so they came up with a monotic drum beat to hypnotise the gullible, sub-audible tones to keep them in line and crap sounds with big titted bimbos lulling them into conformity. Beware the Sirens young Odysseus!!
paedr1 9 months ago
@paedr1 Now I must say I like some of the old disco music as it wasn't and isn't as awful as say rhianna and bieber. I love some electronic music as the voices weren't autotuned, well the bands that I like from the 80's wasn't for example Human League; at least they created their own music! And at least the rock industry was still thriving with hard rock bands and then the glam metal bands of the lae 80's before the gullible driven music really took its toll with the big titty stuff. haha
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@mercuryforeva I, too, love the music of the 80's and before, even bands who've diddled with the music by using synths and electronic pedals and drums, but I'm kind of a purist. Music, for me, died 24th Nov 1991 and nothing has compared since. Back down the rabbit-hole for me!!
paedr1 9 months ago
@paedr1 I do love some of the electronic experimentist stuff as Queen themselves dabbled with in Hot Space of which was thought of as controversial for Queen to produce; I actually like it! and people don't realise that album had a direct influence on MJ's Thriller album of which Fred was gonna be in! I agree, nothing compares to Freddie and Queen, but i'm hopeful of something which can be as pure! Yes hard hitting raw music makes me feel great over everything else!
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@paedr1 I Nothing can beat rock in my opinion and some old pop; and I am not a fan of the bee gees haha, I do like the song how deep is your love though :p Nothing beats rock though :D
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@mercuryforeva Rock is King, no doubt. What saddens me is the lack of venues nowadays for up-and-coming bands to perform. Back in the olden days almost every pub had a band on Fri,Sat,Sun nights and people could rock-out to a live performance and watch something magical. I remember being in Ireland in 1980 and seeing a young fellow in a pub called Paul Hewson singing an old Irish song with his backing band. Can't remember what happened to him after that...
paedr1 9 months ago
@paedr1 Yes I agree partly that there should be more focus on new up and coming bands, in England however, where I live, there are plenty of venues just not loads of emphasis on the performances to see. Same old issue with the charts i'm afraid preventing proper breakthroughs. I bet artsists come and go so much!
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@mercuryforeva Well mate, I live in Australia, and the music scene here is rather pathetic now. We used to have good pub bands who've now gone on to bigger and better things - The Angels, Rose Tattoo, Screaming Jets etc- but now all we've got is nightclubs and trance music. Drop a couple of E's and get right into it. Ick! Not for me. Back in the olden days we used to have sawdust on the floors of pubs, cold beer and a live band. Nowadays there's only pokies and poseurs.
paedr1 9 months ago
@paedr1 We have alot of the trance stuff too, but some clubs have different floors to suit your taste in music sometimes :) I do love a good live gig though I agree, and I wouldnt of thought australia would of got like that! My fave aussie band is INXS I love them! haha or when they had hutchence anyway. The music scene could be better here with regards to what I like; but there is always something there just not enough :/ i'm hopeful though :)
mercuryforeva 9 months ago
@paedr1 all this sampling bollocks, can't be doing with it, just away of making money off the backs of the artists that originally made the tunes eh! and claiming glory! for example vanilla ice!
