  • May i refer you to the movie "Pi" it's all about mathematical patterns in nature.

  • It seems it's been taken down again...

  • @Vihart The Pi Song is here! Fix your link: watch?v=YOQb_mtkEEE

  • And the best thing is that actually literally EVERY SONG ever written can be assumed as a "pi-song", since every pattern of numbers appears, sooner or later, in Pi's decimal expression

  • And now its back down again :(

  • imagine you date this girl...

  • so let me get this straight: yor drawing are awesome, your mathematics are even better, you know how to cook, you have music knowledge and you have a great voice as well!?!?! DAMN I wish i was a boy!!

  • I know from experience, that the Pie song in particular and randomly generated songs in general sound way better if you restrict yourself to using the black keys instead of the white keys on the piano. The black keys are also arranged in the natural groups of: ((3+2)+(3+2)) = 10 or other convenient ways depending on where do you start the numbering. Try it quick before someone copyrights it.

  • The video must have gotten removed again, I can't get it with the link that's in the description...

  • John Cage 4'33'. You think copyright infringement on pi is bad, look that up.

  • @DarwinsChihuahua LETS COPYRIGHT SILENCE! NOW NO ONE CAN NOT BE MAKING A SOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @wierdo1232123 There's an album on iTunes that is just different "remixes" of 4'33". I shit you not.

  • A thoroughly entertaining rant! Love it! I say people should OCCUPY PI....NOW! Why should any one person have have exclusive rights to Pi? That's like saying you have exclusive rights to "love" or exclusive rights to "rain". There are tools with which we create, they should remain the domain of all, but the creative result of those tools belong to the person creating them.

  • Oh, so THAT'S how you made that cool hand dance...

  • It's still down. :(

  • His song is back down again.

  • The π is a lie!!!

  • You can sing and you're good at maths? YOU ARE A GOD.

  • I found the way you showed pi applied to music very interesting. I too used a similar method to write music, but instead of relating the numbers to scale notes, i related it to semitones up from central C. The result was a melody, challenging to harmonize and therefore harder to memorize although not any less interesting. The method you use is much better to help memorize numbers, thanks for showing it to us! Keep those videos up!!

  • Yea, back down indeed, and I didn't even get to hear it :(

  • Its taken down again because of copyright claims -.- DAMN YOU THIRD PARTYSSSSSSSSSSSSS

    nake

  • Does anyone actually understand what she's complaining about?

  • It's back down! D=

  • taken down again.

  • You have a beautiful voice.

  • How many phone calls did you get from this video?

  • Surely if you'd 'accidentally' memorised the first 97 numbers of pi you'd at least find out what the next 3 are and round it up to 100.

  • /watch?v=YOQb_mtkEEE<-- the video in the description

  • Your videos have kept me from sleeping when I have a geometry test tomorrow. I don't know if I should be concerned for my grade, or psyched.

  • Has anyone called her? lol

  • But.... Wouldn't it be Pilotics?

  • let us think logiclyishly, all music are made of notes that can be repesented as numbers. pi is an infinate desmal sequence, there for all music ever made is some where in pi.

  • @takebackkean Oh. My. GOD.

    Mind BLOWN.

  • Ok....

so you're good at math, and you can draw, cook, and even sing.

So what other superpowers are you hiding?? Laserbeams?

  • Wow....

Can you cook too? that would be awesome..

    Math + cooking.. D'aww

  • @0031reverze and yes in her first pi vid she cooks and duse the math.

  • It is not back up :(

  • Michael should try and make a song from the digits of e. That would also be cool!

  • @MTrichaos e>pi!

  • I didn't know that you were also Regina Spektor.

  • As an asian we have this thing called a pentatonic scale, which is why string instruments rock.

  • *nod nod nod* Expression of pi!

  • I like your videos a lot. They are interesting and very though provoking. And as an engineering major a lot of what you say makes sense. Also, your indexing of the notes kinda makes me go *.* as a programmer. Either way, awesome videos.

  • Mathematics cannot be copyrighted. Valid copyrights require the author to have produced it. Without pulling out a calculator, I'd hazzard a guess that the probability of someone writing a song that matched the 1st 32 digits of pi is remote. Very. So, the only option for that pi dude would be to patent his idea of expressing PI in music. Which introduces 2 more problems.

    1. You cannot patent maths either.

    2. Unless it's already *been* patened, it's published now, thus unpatentable...

  • im with you- i love pi songs and copyrighting a pi song is just as stupid as copyrighting the number itself.

love your vids though- keep posting please

  • Awesome, Vi! Out of curiosity, is there a reason you refer to a major third an octave above the root as "0" in your notation? I suppose "10" would be understandable as it's a whole step above the 9th, but I'm not sure I follow where the 0 came from. Thanks!

    :D

  • Okay so I found Michael's REAL video, but it won't let me paste it to this post, so I'll tell you how to find it. First, try clicking on the 5th suggestion on the side of this page, ignoring the suggested/promoted video. If that doesn't work, type in the search engine "What pi sounds like". If THAT doesn't work, look for the channel newscientistvideo & look for the video "What pi sounds like." It's time is 3:22 if you don't believe me or have trouble picking out the actual video.

  • I'm sad too. the video has been taken down again. :(

  • Who are you.....this whole series of video is blowing my mind....

  • After the Burial - Pi

    :3

  • Are you kidding me... the Pi video has been taken down AGAIN!!! DOES YOUTUBE HATE MATH!?

  • I do believe I'm in love.

  • "What Pi so..."

This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by a third party.

  • THERE IS A VID OF PI /watch?v=YOQb_mtkEEE

  • I believe that it's back again... Whee!

    /watch?v=YOQb_mtkEEE

  • Genial.

  • hey just a thought...

since every possible sequence of numbers exists in pi couldn't you find a sequence 314159265358979.... later on in pi so you are not infringing on his copyright

  • @sk8rboy177 what fun is that?

  • How do you ACCIDENTALLY memorise 97 digits without meaning to?

  • you talk so fast that it over loads my brain lol. but i like what your saying.

  • So then, which sounds better: pi or tau?

  • I memorized more than 97 digits of pi

  • Yeah, it's back down. GRRRR

  • Genial.

  • Just went to look at Michael Blake's video, using the link in the description, and it says it's down for copyright. What happened to the victory?! D:

  • "I accidentally memorized the first 97 numbers."

  • Where's this "I copyrighted Pi" guy?! Let's take him to a dark alley...

  • Is that hiw they came up with 8675309

  • you should sell your notebooks after their full. that would be awesome.

  • @ifitsparkles12 That would be awesome. I'd buy one.

  • Comment removed

  • Tao!

  • All songs ever recorded, _all_ of them are made up of consecutive digits of pi (if you accept pi is a normal number, which I know has not been proven). I will sue Beethoven for royalties from Ode to Joy which copies eight digits of pi starting with the 171,695,412nd: 33455432.

  • It's down again... :(

  • the vid is back down

  • "Look I know I'm anti-pi when it comes to mathematics". Byeee

  • I thought you could perform [musical] works ('covers') as long as you gave attribution to the copyright holder until 70 years after their death.

You may be interested in this: cs.cmu [dot] edu/~dst/DeCSS/Gallery/

  • How many texts/voicemails did you get on that Google Voice number that said "Will you marry me?"

  • Amen!

  • It's back down. :(

  • and its back down again :(

  • I did a pi melody on my channel in a blues scale!

  • And it's down again

  • /watch?v=wK7tq7L0N8E

  • marriage material.. right there! she is a keeper

  • I found something! Is this the video you were talking about? =D /watch?v=YOQb_mtkEEE

  • It's back down again :(

  • @1:06, is that your number?

  • Search for the term 'illegal number' on wikipedia. The numbers are taken away from us one sequence at the time... :(

  • hehe you speak really fast...

...gosh that made me sound dum...

  • I love your videos, but why are you're doing them in this superfast tempo, like you have your baby crying for milk and have to rush to her a s soon as possible?

Hope you don't take that as sexist; I just tried to find a nicer image than you being on caffeine overdose or speed.

  • !:07 = a phone number =-O who called it?

  • i feel dumb.

  • Great to discover your passion for sounds and numbers

I thaught that I was nerdy.... Hahaha. I enjoyed that so much

    Respect 4 you sister

  • How the heck can someone copyright a number? O_O

  • ...If he's only copyrighted the first 32 digits, there's no problem! Pi is infinite, and "314159265358979..." repeats somewhere in its length. You can always claim your song is based on that sequence, and not the first 32. :)

  • watching all ur videos tonight! your theories and conversations are so intruiging

    !

  • The fact that it's down again is very angry-making.

  • I SAW THE CIRCLES INSIDE THE CIRCLES FROM ONE OF YOUR VIDEOS!!!!! :P

  • Damn it its down again

  • you can sing too..... CAN YOU ALSO FLY!?!?!?!?

  • @44supernova Yeah... pretty sure. Actually, come to think about it, it sounds ridiculous that she wouldn't.

  • You're an amazing artist, singer and mather :P

  • Apparently according to an e-mail reply from Mr. Erikson - "The digits of pi have not been around nearly that long, and furthermore, a copyright on a melody is a perfectly valid way for one to protect one's work from a thief."

To this I say two things:

    1. van Ceulen had 35 digits 400 years ago

    2. is he serious about calling this "his work"?

  • @Vihart OH MY FREAKING GOD DID YOU JUST COMMENT ON YOUR OWN VIDEO? IS THAT REALLY YOU? WHY?

  • Dear Lars,

    Actually, I made this.

    Sincerely, God

  • Comment removed

  • @WAStarDust Ignore my previous response. I deleted it and should never have posted.

  • @Vihart

Honestly, you have/are a very beautiful mind!

  • Down again. Lars, you did not write this melody first.

  • once agains proven that math is art just like music and that music is a lot like maths.... and also maths can be beautiful

  • Lars Erikson is a douche

  • When I was 16 I did a melody using numerology the exact same way. In some cases where there were too many notes to fill in a bar, I would stack the notes that were harmonizers. If I had three being the 1st, 3rd, and 5th, I'd have the root chord of the scale I used.

  • The eighth number in the music scale is the octave note of the scale mode.

  • did anyone else remember the numbers that she used instead of the first few numbers of pi already?

  • If I ever have a daughter I want her to be like you.

  • ur hot...and if you're not, your brain is still sexy

  • Oh. I was sitting here wondering why the sigma was not to the power of 2, until I realized it was not inside the square root. >_>

  • You Know How To Sing, You are very Smart. You are awesome when it comes to drawing, I'f You Look Good and are a very attractive women with a perfect body i really have a feeling you would be the perfect women.<3<3<3

  • Yeah... The pi video is down again.

  • good hanwritting

  • You are my idol. I love you so much. XD <3

  • im sorry, did you say 97 DIDGITS?!?!

  • You are awesome Vi! Don't stop girl! I love it!

  • I am so glad I subscribed to this channel... so much interesting stuff is on here!

  • hahaha!

  • FUCK YOU LARS!

  • HEY VIHART LOVERS! :D In case you really want to see the pi video, because vi recommended it, and she's just so awesome (snakesnakesnake.), and michael blake's video is usually down, you can watch it here:

    watch?v=YOQb_mtkEEE&feature=related

    hope this helps! :D

  • Thanks for the link unicomgirl123. New Scientist magazine uploaded it.

  • hahahaha

  • Damn Pilotics

  • I'M GONNA PRANK CALL YOU NOW!!!

  • You could even do e^(-i tau)=1 so you still get the negative in there! Genius.

  • I imagine it's about the guy who created the pi symphony or something? I hate him as well! Thank you for having a nice video to support Blake!

  • Making unjust claims

    signifies your faggotry.

    You're pathetic, Lars

  • This video should be 3m14s long. :)

  • STUPID LARS ERICSON!

  • Vi, I know you must get a lot of requests to do videos, but could you please do one on the golden ratio? I'm sure it would be quite cool!

  • @Scoonezy132 THAT WOULD B TOTALLY AWESOME!!!

  • i wanna make a pie song now :D

  • Uh... It's Down again...

  • i'm sad that i can't create a pi song using the first 32 digits

  • @mappingtheshit Your comment says far more about you than it does about the wonderful and talented lady in the video.

  • @JustinHEMI05 I guess you are struggling to become a smart person and you try to be a mathematician... If you call this shit some kind of talent, man, you obviously lacking of talent and you are very far away from being a talented person... I came here to watch some deep shit about mathematics and all I got was a rotten shit... Mathematics is not yours, man... quit it

  • @mappingtheshit You're an idiot. Life is not yours. Quit it.

  • @JustinHEMI05 understanding some simple shit about math in youtube does not make you smarter, boy... so you can bravely go on and fuck yourself

  • @mappingtheshit Help. Seek it.

  • OMG. What can't you do????????????? i need to have you on my handbag like my new bestie. I'll show you off to the world all smug and like 'OMG HAVE YOU SEEN THIS UBER SMART COOL GIRL?! She can kick your ass with doodles. watch!'

  • Dangitttttt the video is down again :(

  • I agree with her on the copyright. he has all rights to the symphony but copyrighting the actual number tune is like claiming a number.

  • @TheKatie144 Sadly, corporations have done almost exactly that. Look up the Wikipedia page on "Illegal Numbers". :(

  • Great job on the pi ballerina! =D

  • Thanks for making me feel uneducated yet starving for knowledge. The fact that you're good at math AND music makes me want to pick up an instrument and start doing my math homework. Also, I'm gonna be a senior and it makes me feel like I missed out on a lot of my inner talent all these years. I guess it's never too late after all! :)

  • Just google "What pi sounds like" and it comes up on a bunch of other websites.

  • Where the hell did you get the zero from? Do you not know how music works?

You have 12 semitones. Why not divide it up that way? Sure, you lose the last two tones, but you could get more out of it by modulation. One could modulate through a chord progression where 1 is the root of each chord, or the root could be whatever the beat happens to fall on.

  • what pi sounds like? Why would they take that down?! I loved that song

  • You know, I taught myself 0-9 in binary from this video. Yey!

  • Comment removed

  • WOAH...how can you own a number's interpretation?...what's next? interpretation of my dream?...wtf?...what else that should be free be owned next?

  • and in 5 years...we'll finally see that pi does repeat omfg! and then black hole appears...the end...

  • Stuck out the middle finger at the end :D

  • I think you are were an indigo child.

  • Yes, this copyright claim is ridiculous, as are all copyright claims.

There is no such thing as "intellectual property".

  • @MusicRepository therefore musicians don't have the right to sell their music, writers don't have the right to profit off of their novels and I can upload all of Vihart's videos uncredited to ebaumsworld to make ad revenue for me?

  • @Muzikman127

You have made a logical fallacy called an "appeal to consequences". Intellectual property either exists or it doesn't.

The musicians and authors can sell whatever they want to a willing buyer. Copyright has nothing to do with that. You should've said "exclusive right to sell".

Re: Vi's videos, if you want to credit her then do it. What does that have to do with copyright? Slow down. You're not thinking clearly. Don't mix up the issues. Copyright is a failing model. Let it die.
