And the best thing is that actually literally EVERY SONG ever written can be assumed as a "pi-song", since every pattern of numbers appears, sooner or later, in Pi's decimal expression
so let me get this straight: yor drawing are awesome, your mathematics are even better, you know how to cook, you have music knowledge and you have a great voice as well!?!?! DAMN I wish i was a boy!!
I know from experience, that the Pie song in particular and randomly generated songs in general sound way better if you restrict yourself to using the black keys instead of the white keys on the piano. The black keys are also arranged in the natural groups of: ((3+2)+(3+2)) = 10 or other convenient ways depending on where do you start the numbering. Try it quick before someone copyrights it.
A thoroughly entertaining rant! Love it! I say people should OCCUPY PI....NOW! Why should any one person have have exclusive rights to Pi? That's like saying you have exclusive rights to "love" or exclusive rights to "rain". There are tools with which we create, they should remain the domain of all, but the creative result of those tools belong to the person creating them.
I found the way you showed pi applied to music very interesting. I too used a similar method to write music, but instead of relating the numbers to scale notes, i related it to semitones up from central C. The result was a melody, challenging to harmonize and therefore harder to memorize although not any less interesting. The method you use is much better to help memorize numbers, thanks for showing it to us! Keep those videos up!!
let us think logiclyishly, all music are made of notes that can be repesented as numbers. pi is an infinate desmal sequence, there for all music ever made is some where in pi.
I like your videos a lot. They are interesting and very though provoking. And as an engineering major a lot of what you say makes sense. Also, your indexing of the notes kinda makes me go *.* as a programmer. Either way, awesome videos.
Mathematics cannot be copyrighted. Valid copyrights require the author to have produced it. Without pulling out a calculator, I'd hazzard a guess that the probability of someone writing a song that matched the 1st 32 digits of pi is remote. Very. So, the only option for that pi dude would be to patent his idea of expressing PI in music. Which introduces 2 more problems.
Awesome, Vi! Out of curiosity, is there a reason you refer to a major third an octave above the root as "0" in your notation? I suppose "10" would be understandable as it's a whole step above the 9th, but I'm not sure I follow where the 0 came from. Thanks!
Okay so I found Michael's REAL video, but it won't let me paste it to this post, so I'll tell you how to find it. First, try clicking on the 5th suggestion on the side of this page, ignoring the suggested/promoted video. If that doesn't work, type in the search engine "What pi sounds like". If THAT doesn't work, look for the channel newscientistvideo & look for the video "What pi sounds like." It's time is 3:22 if you don't believe me or have trouble picking out the actual video.
since every possible sequence of numbers exists in pi couldn't you find a sequence 314159265358979.... later on in pi so you are not infringing on his copyright
I didn't see his original link, but it looks like someone might have saved it here. If it's not the original, then it's just another really great Pi video: youtube.com/watch?v=XRM4h0tquCw
All songs ever recorded, _all_ of them are made up of consecutive digits of pi (if you accept pi is a normal number, which I know has not been proven). I will sue Beethoven for royalties from Ode to Joy which copies eight digits of pi starting with the 171,695,412nd: 33455432.
I love your videos, but why are you're doing them in this superfast tempo, like you have your baby crying for milk and have to rush to her a s soon as possible?
Hope you don't take that as sexist; I just tried to find a nicer image than you being on caffeine overdose or speed.
...If he's only copyrighted the first 32 digits, there's no problem! Pi is infinite, and "314159265358979..." repeats somewhere in its length. You can always claim your song is based on that sequence, and not the first 32. :)
Apparently according to an e-mail reply from Mr. Erikson - "The digits of pi have not been around nearly that long, and furthermore, a copyright on a melody is a perfectly valid way for one to protect one's work from a thief."
When I was 16 I did a melody using numerology the exact same way. In some cases where there were too many notes to fill in a bar, I would stack the notes that were harmonizers. If I had three being the 1st, 3rd, and 5th, I'd have the root chord of the scale I used.
You Know How To Sing, You are very Smart. You are awesome when it comes to drawing, I'f You Look Good and are a very attractive women with a perfect body i really have a feeling you would be the perfect women.<3<3<3

Where the hell did you get the zero from? Do you not know how music works?
You have 12 semitones. Why not divide it up that way? Sure, you lose the last two tones, but you could get more out of it by modulation. One could modulate through a chord progression where 1 is the root of each chord, or the root could be whatever the beat happens to fall on.
@MusicRepository therefore musicians don't have the right to sell their music, writers don't have the right to profit off of their novels and I can upload all of Vihart's videos uncredited to ebaumsworld to make ad revenue for me?
You have made a logical fallacy called an "appeal to consequences". Intellectual property either exists or it doesn't.
The musicians and authors can sell whatever they want to a willing buyer. Copyright has nothing to do with that. You should've said "exclusive right to sell".
Re: Vi's videos, if you want to credit her then do it. What does that have to do with copyright? Slow down. You're not thinking clearly. Don't mix up the issues. Copyright is a failing model. Let it die.

Let it die.
