  • hey im growing jalapenos for the first time and im using a 75 watts special bulb for plants. It seems to be working cause they are allrdy growing in only a week. so when they grow bigger should I transfer them to bigger pots individualy ? and should i use more than one source of light? Im growing inside

  • floros/CFL's are fine for growing but likely isn't enough for flowering or setting fruit.

Ya need the sun, or a LOT of light such as HPS/MH grow lights for indoors.

Hippy has a coupld good guides on starting and growing chiles on his website: thehippyseedcompany (dot) com

    Look under "info pages".

Also, thehotpepper(dot)com has tons of info for chile growers. I highly recommend it. :)

  • That 6-watt incandescent might be good for providing warmth, but not much good for growing anything.

They won't provide the spectrum of light plants need to grow...which we can't see. A lot of folks use CFL's for small garden stuff indoors, but for larger you need the big ones.

If you want full-size plants, you'll eventually need Grow Lights, whether be LED, Floros, HPS/MH, etc. Remember, you're reproducing the power and effects of our Sun...indoors. :-)

  • can i grow two chocolate hab's indoors with two cool white cfl. Also you setup with the blanket's is that to insulate it? thanks

  • You could surely get them going that way, but they may not get them to flower/fruit with just that amount of light.

The thing over it is actually a big drapery/curtain that's for trying to keep heat in, but also to try and limit light loss. Since it's next to a window and my bedroom, I'd rather not have the light blasting out. ;)

  • gee didnt know grew that well under Fluro's i only use for seedlings/clones bugger winters bout over, aw well next winter

very nice mate, they growing Reallly Well

    :-) neil.

  • Thanks mate :)

It's all from your seeds too except the Jalapeno and Orange Habs. It's going well for my first go at growing chiles.

    Heh, tabletop chiles..literally. ;-)

Thx all, and esp. Neil for all the great pods and seed..couldn't a done it with out ya bro.

    cheers,

  • Your plants look beautiful and very happy! They sure like it there!! Really nice.

  • Perfect for a small indoor garden. The plants leaves look really health, the bih and fatali should get alot taller pretty soon.

  • nice plants! nice set up aswell. question. do you use regular flouresent tubes? or do you need a special type?

  • You don't have to, but for optimal growth AND flowering/pods it's good to have a spread-spectrum light, I use the GE Eco-Lux Plant & Aquarium bulbs and they seem to do great. Got 'em at Wal-Mart along with the fixture for about $30.

  • Thats a good price. bet electrical consupmtion not to good!

  • Well, two 40 Watt floros aint bad. My comps use much more, and there are 3 of them on at all times. ;)

  • Oh, and I don't pay for electricity here, or water, or heat. ;)

  • geez you are lucky not having to pay for water, heating or electricity.
