An excellent performance - perhaps one of the most difficult roles, considering how charismatic Rasputin was in real life - beat that of Alan Rickman and even Sir Christopher Lee by far! However, I know of one Rasputin that actually beat Tom Baker: check out the Russian film Agony - Rasputin. from 1975. Amazing film.
@fenriz218 Oh my God, I think I love you. I never knew Elem Klimov made a movie about Rasputin. I've only seen Come and See, which I consider to be the greatest movie ever made.
@LightStijn Glad I could be of assistance. I've been searching many years myself since I last saw it in college - ironically I found it on youtube with somewhat unprofessional subtitles (if you don't speak Russian).
It has it's lengthy parts but Aleksei Petrenko gives a haunting Rasputin - the great thing about Russian cinema: one keeps finding rare gems again and again.
While no film is ever accurate historically I do see in Tom Baker's performance a hint of Rasputin's influence. It shows him as a charismatic figure who is able to win his way into a class driven society that under normal circumstances wouldn't let him past the back door. People forget how far a person can get by being charismatic, so much so that legends spring up around them whether or not they are true.
IMHO Tom Baker was a perfect choice for this role.

I think I was the only person in my history class to enjoy this film. Tom Baker is just so magnetic.
