I love cycling around but no one has ever thought me the basics. Been trying to surf around to find tips/videos for beginners but can't seem to find them. Anyone with any tips on where to go searching? I'm just a casual cycler.
@juuonse contact any good 'specialized bike' dealer for a bike fit, they are the best!...specialized is the make of bike incase you did not know.....its called BG FIT
Correct fitment is just the start, My knees have to be in front of my toes for any real performance. I need to "run on the bike" . If you have strong quads and weak gluts you may do better forward also. I also need a few degrees rotation on the pedals also or my knees ache at the 50 mile mark. This method is not detrimental to your health, I did it for thee years training @ 170 miles a week in the bars. I'm about to start again...
He's going to brake the frame on the training device if he's rocking the bike like that. I've broken one that way.
I don't think that the saddle is too low. Looks fine to me and it's really personal thing. There is no saddle heigh in general that fits all. You have to find a position that suites you and what can generate the most power. I ride a relatively low saddle myself and I can go faster and longer that way.
@opmdevil are my balls suppose to be touching the saddle? I just got my bike three days ago, and I find it comfortable to place the saddle as high as I can reach the bike by tiptoing the floor. Should I lower it any suggestions? Rocking is no good?
Tiptoing the floor is a bad way to measure saddle height because bottom bracket height varies from bike to bike. I measure the height by putting my heel to the pedal when the pedal is to it's lower position and in paraller with the seat tube. In that position I check if the knee is only slightly bent. I also keep saddle a bit more back than usually. That position suites me fine but you have to find your own best position.
a bit to bulky for a TT position maybe.(Then again so is Cancellara) .rockin your lower back & movement in your upperbody is a washed of energy.Rhytm before speed.watching him pedaling even makes my feets burn...
sit on a workout bench so that your femur is parallel to the floor / toes in same position relative to your knees as on your nike....
sit straight up and ...
STAND STRAIGHT UP WITHOUT LEANING FORWARD AT ALL.... You cant do it ...what can you derive from this exercise that will help someone understand how they should fit on a bike..... think physics here...
From the owner/ coach of this video.. YOU guys / gals are doiing a great job of assessing this position...
So here is a question for you to consider... What is the first variable you need to consider before fitting someone on a bike... certainly we could argue what the "correct " answer is and we would all be pretty close to being right... but there is one that most bike shops and coaches miss, what is it...?
I commented that the rider was only mashing the pedals rather than pedaling in circles, but the main variable that most bike shops gloss over (and one all of us neglected to take into account) is the rider's comfort level. It doesn't appear that he is suffering or not getting enough air, so this position may be fine for him-as sloppy an inefficient as it might be. : < ) He probably can still hold 25mph+ for a longer duration than many triathletes.
BINGO - Rider comfort, but always consider that the client may not haver a solid point of reference from which to define comfort... I ride with some pretty experienced riders but it amazes me that they are content with a "better" position and afraid to utilize good science to find the optimal position where cmfort and efficiecny meet, thus losing out on maybe a 15% +/- gain in power output or decrease in HR... you can lead a horse to water, but.... cheers!
My two cents. His seat could be higher and further back. Handle bar stem is too long and needs to be shorter also lower would give a flater back. In general he might be better on a traditonal road bike with a short top tube instead of a tri geometry bike.
I agree but, will add this. He may be a very powerful stroker, but he is not pedaling the full circle--hence the wobble, and bad looking form. I agree with stonzy69 and genetico as well. The whol efram may be too small for him, so they tried to compensate by putting a long stem on, and that just as him spread out too far. The vid's a good lesson though--in things to avoid.
Keeping in mind that the only fixed points on the bike from which your body originates its movement is the pedals. (because the feet are attached),you want to use as much muscle as possible without hyper extending or compromising other biomechanics required to pedal EFFICIENtly back...if i lower his saddle then then YES it moves him closer to the handle bars but then his breathing is compromised and the stress on his quads... .I..what if I raise the saddle and THEN move it forward?
are you thinking the seat is too high? look at it as though its too high because its too far back.....
Im not giving all the answers on purpose, I want you to think about it, to understand it.....Hey do this, post a video of yourself and lets critique it? fun, free!
See it all the time. Some people believe that by spending loads of dough on a nice bike and equipment automatically means they'll be a better cyclist.
I love getting looks at the beginning of a ride by bike snobs with their $4,000.00 and up setups as I straddle my $1,000.00 Trek. I then proceed to fly by them on the ride on a bike that I've been properly fitted for.
So many people buy great bikes that are superlight, super stiff and very aerodynamic; howvever, the cost of POOR BIO-MECHANICS might negate the technological advances that you just paid for.
If you're going to invest $ 4,500 on a bike, drop another 175.00 and get fitted by a professional.
so instead of telling him that hes got wrong possition you cheer him up ?)))

i dont get it, wheres the rong bit?
is he just abit to big for the bike and not enough rythem so he rocks it?

@ideasoner
he is way too low, this will put strain on his knees. his hips are rocking because his legs arent where they should be.
Bhousm76 1 year ago
@Bhousm76 cant beleive i left that comment haha! since then i know the proper posistion(i used to dirt jump and didt realy get it)
and the other dudes are right, i can ride faster on a heavy cheep bike that im set up propaly on than a fancy carbon thing not set up propaly

Bike's to small.
His position is to low so he cant sustain a rhytm.theres no benefit to his TT position.
his knees are infront of the pedals, they shoud line up with the hart of your shoe (horizontal position crank).
so all his strokes are pointing into the ground, not forward.
Sammydepammy 2 years ago 4
@Sammydepammy So the toes point forward, not down, and if there's an indication of rocking, it means no rhithym?

He needs a shorter stem to bring him closer. Too stretched out at the moment.

Seems almost as if the frame might be a little small!

I would say the opposite, his frame is too big, reducing the stem will affect handling

Saddle too low, and rider too far forward. That's what I reckon, anyway. He can certainly turn those pedals, though!

No he is to far back. His arms is not in 90 degrees angle.

just wondering..why do you say the seat is too low? i would think its too high because his hip falls down when that leg is at the lowest position

what if I simply lower the nose of the saddle?
are you thinking the seat is too high? look at it as though its too high because its too far back.....
