  • The Austro-Hungarian army, actually. What is today's Austria (the Union having split up in 1918) . As to help form the locals, I suspect that they didn't have a lot of choice in the matter.

  • Passo di San Boldo lies between the towns of Trichiana (10 km SW of Belluno) and Tovena. Coming from the north, the road is flat till you reach the pass which then descends down the ravine to Tovena. The tunnels lie on each side of the the narrow ravine.
