Like Batman Beyond...this show had huge balls when it came to storytelling...the episode "Ghost in the Macine" in Phantom 2040 blew my little 12 year old mind away.
it's about fighting injustice. injustice now, and forever. this could become true in the future as it has now been proven that unemployment, war and famine allow corporations that are usually based in the US to profit at extraordinary levels. The Phantom 2040 shows us how things will be, and that blatant injustice (differences between people would seek to keep the majority under control) will unite the majority to defeat injustice (corporations).
one of my favourites. But i dont remember the story line. Was phantoms father a pirate 2? Did his dad try to kill him when he was a kid? N whose skeleton is it in .23? Is that his father? If u remember pls share .
Pirates and emperors do the same thing. Not only is it a matter of scale (this is to say, pirates work with a single ship while emperors have whole armadas), but also a matter of legitimacy (which is to say, pirates don't function under the mantle of "legitimate violence", as emperors do). This show is saying what we all fear: we are moving toward a criminal state. The Phantom, who began by fighting pirates, now finds it necessary to fight the emperor himself.
I also thought it was, but unfortunately not PrimalWolf2006 . because the Phantom of the Defenders of the Earth, is Kit Walker, and according to a note in the end credits, this is the 27th Phantom
@PiperMMMMMMMMMM well from what i've read about the two animated phantoms, there seems to be a mistake somewhere, on the wikipedia page for the phantom......kit walker jr is the one in 2040 and listed as the 24th while kit(defenders of the earth) is the 21st phantom in the line o.o
@PrimalWolf2006 Defenders in 27th, presumably to reconcile the Flash Gordon sci-fi elements and discrepency in child. If you want to play family tree, you might investigate the adventures of the 23rd Phantom in Marvel's short 1995 mini-series. For those who came in late -- every Phantom is named (Christopher) Kit Walker.
@PiperMMMMMMMMMM The Phantom from the 2040 show is the 24th of the line. The one of the Defenders show was described in the show`s Credits (iirc) as the 27th.
@MisterWhat No, because the year that Defenders of the earth is set in is 2015. Thus making the Phantom of that show the ancestor of the one from 2040.
@roninshinobi Then there is some rather official contradictions here. Some final credits of the show list the Defenders Phantom as the 27th in line, thus making the 24th his ancestor.
@MisterWhat Not really since producers of 2040 has no tie in to the Defenders of the Earths other than their use of the Phantom character. However if your really wanting justification of both characters you could make the Phantom of of Defenders a off shoot timeline to the one of 2040. Similar to what the Justice League cartoons did with the introduction of the Justice Lords. Where a event in phantoms past if happened one way or another branched of making the Defenders one the 27th phantom
Seriously....somebody should revive this cartoon into a movie for the 21st Century, and not the one with Billy Zane
