  • I loved this when I was a kid, is it available on VHS / DVD??

  • So you're telling me this doesn't appear on any Christmas DVD! WHAT!

  • This is SO GOOD so far- any idea if it is available in higher res or from the original producers? And thanks for sharing, this is awesome.

  • Love the theme song!

  • I have been searching for this cartoon for years and years, I am thrilled now that I have finally found it. It brings back so many heart warming memories from my childhood and I thank you so much for putting it on here so everyone can enjoy this lovely cartoon. I just wish they done a DVD of it.

  • Peter Auty also sung "Walking In The Air" from the lovely cartoon "The Snowman" :)

  • Many of the makers of Winter Story, including the story writer Robin Lyons and design artist Andrew Offiler are now working in Calon TV. They also have the rights to A Winter Story and possibly (hopefully!) the master tapes to this wonderful cartoon.

I contacted them once and got a very kind reply, but they were unable to find the master tape at a time. Doesn't mean it still isn't there somewhere, though! I'm going to try contacting them again eventually and subtly ask again :)

  • To be honest I'm surpirsed they didn't re-run this I suppose they did for a bit but now its fallen out of circulation. Ecellant and slightly odd cartoon. The musci is very haunting, and in fact this is the only cartoon I know where aled jones actually did sing the title music, rather than in the snow man when he did a remake of it which went supernova but was actually sung in the original cartoon by someone else (wikipedia tells me it is a choirboy called Peter Auty from St Pauls cathedral)

  • Woot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this, I've been searching this for ages. Ah brings back memories.

  • Thank you so much for posting this wonderful animation, i have been searching for ages trying to find this, brings back memories of christmas 1987, many many thanks.

  • Anybody know if there's any kind of DVD of this available, anywhere? I watched this as a kid when it came out few decades ago, and it's such a fond memory. I would LOVE to own it on a disc again! Such great cartoons are not made anymore....can anyone help me?

  • The best thing to do is use a Youtube download tool and keep this on CD yourself.. I doubt they'll make a dvd for something so old sadly. I coudltn believe I found it myself. been searching for this childhood memory for years. Thank God for youtube

  • That is actually not a half-bad idea! Since you're right, the chance of dvd is very slim (sigh), it's best to do whatever possible to preserve at least the little we have.

Youtube has really taken me back 20 years often, it's a precious website :) ..thank you, I'm off to find the download tool!

  • Its a pleasure! Let me know if you have any problems getting hold of the programme

    Dan

  • @lloyddjdannyboy

could you help me to get a download programme? I love this film so much!! Great kid memories

  • Is this the same cartoon named "Geschichten vom Fuchs" or "Fox Tales" in the uk? I've been trying to find out... they both sound the same

  • Oh I'm so pleased to see this on youtube. I used to watch this all the time on video as a kid and now it's gone all fuzzy, but I love it. You don't know if it's available on DVD in the UK do you?

  • I saw this once as a kid too at Christmas. And that haunting music (and the touching story) has been with me ever since. I'm so glad to FINALLY find this again.

"Tell me a Winter Story - to warm my Wintry Heart"

  • I remember seeing this when I was wee! I'm not sure if it was in English or in Scottish Gaelic that I saw it in...maybe both! Getting all nostalgic anyway!

  • Here in Wales, the animation was known as 'Sion Blewyn Coch'.

  • thanks i love you

  • ace, haven't seen this since I was a nipper

  • I've been looking for this cartoon for years but couldn't remember what it was called - Thank you sooo much for uploading!

  • me too i thought it was A winters tale shit its a small world

  • That's what I thought it was called too, all I kept getting was David Essex!

  • That's because there was a MIke Batt song called 'A Winter's Tale' performed by David Essex, so now you know it's 'Story' and not 'Tail'.

  • Man, that song just takes me away somewhere else every time I listen to it, especially with the accompanying visuals...makes me long for winter all the more.

Thanks for uploading this. It's a shame that this appears to be so obscure nowadays.

  • This is beautiful ^^

  • they make the foxes sound so innocent when there not

  • wtf? Foxes are innocent

  • And such great animals...they're my favorite animal I think. ^^

  • If foxes were to be extinct, the European ecosystem would collapse.

  • I hope they never go extinct. There's a chance with every animal unfortunately nowadays.

I love foxes though. My family saw one walking around right outside our house recently and it was exciting.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this, it's one of my favourite pieces of animation ever - so many memories of childhood :)
