For all those saying the newer PC should be expected to be slower, because it loads a lot more, the question is WHY? Why do you need all that garbage just to type an email? Not to mention the typical modern PC has 500 times faster CPU, 8,000 times the RAM and 1,000,000 times the disk space of the old Mac. So don't give us excuses - the PC should be ready to use almost instantly!

A calculator "boots" faster than a 1984 Macintosh, although it has less power. A Windows 95 boots faster than a modern Snow Leopard. A Commondre 64 boots faster than any Macintosh or PC on the market today, and it also boots faster than a 1984 Macintosh.
Do not assume that the interface and architecture of a computer remains roughly constant as its power increases.

@wfgigglemonkey That MAC has a couple Mhz's maybe for computing, and the Windows system runs of 3Ghz. Sorry but i thought that progress means things to be done at larger scales + faster. And we haven't even touched the subject of Microsoft not even trying to do more things on the same hardware, they just say "it's gonna be more and more Ghz's and Gb's every year, fuck coding with a mind!!!"
@JonasHamill Why would it not beat the PC? The Mac has almost nothing to load, so has no excuse to take a long time. The PC has tons of stuff to load.
Geez... I remember my Commador 64... With a tape drive! Of course then there was my Amiga which works to this day and still multifunctions better than my PC. Just nothing current will run on it:-)
I was cleaning out some of my old stuff and came across an unopened box of 8 inch floppy disks. Don't say it... I'm antiquated. Oh well.

@TheAdamjwright Why? A new Mac can't load as fast as that old Macintosh either. You should be ashamed for thinking a new computer should be able to load it's advanced OS and programs as fast as an outdated computer can load a primitive word processor.
@m4kk393 It's just for fun. Though, I don't have $2600 U.S adjusted at inflation to compare a price-equivalent PC. Actually, I don't think I'd ever spend three-thousand plus for a tower of any kind. Thanks for the comment.

A standard Commodore 64 boots in about 10 milli-seconds. A Commodore 64 running GEOS boots in about 15 seconds.

It boots faster because the operating system is on ROM; That's it!!
No need the load it from disk into RAM; the Mc68000 just executes code directly from ROM.

Comparing the clock rate of a modern PC to the Mc68000 doesn't give you an accurate comparison at all.
Dhrystone tests of a modern PC versus the original mac, gives that the PC is at least 100.000 times faster.

That's actually a 1986-1990 Mac Plus. The 1984 ones had a 400k floppy drive with 128k of memory. The Mac Plus has more memory.
