  • The shield will never die. I promise. Other than that, good work I suppose.

  • how old are you i wanna do sca and im 12 but i dont know the age and if they give you armor or you need to buy your own (its expensive!)

  • @jrichca You need to buy your own, but I'm sure wherever your from has got loaner armor somewhere. You need to be 18 to fight in the adult lists, or 16 with parent permission. 13-16 fights with rattan by themselves. Under thirteen uses padded stuff from what I can recall. Sorry dude.

  • holy crap! little dude gets OWNED at 1:06

  • The kind of blows your throwing with mostly your arms and shoulders instead of using a coiled strike delivered from the major muscles in the trunk like the abs probably would not be effective in a real armored combat unless your a super heavy weight. And why is it that your martial refuses to list the reasons behind your sparring rules? I did SCA sparring for many years but concluded the rules were not modeled to achieve a specific goal and I did not like their ambiguity of intent.

  • I'd say you have good points, however SCA combat is what it is. I'm really not an authority on the rules and reasons for their choices to leave out certain obvious targets. Every game has to have some sort of restrictive ruling to make it challenging. I'd think you'd agree that SCA combat is definitely more of game than a defensive martial art. Also you should be able to find a link to the Fighters Handbook on the SCA org site. That may answer some of your questions better.

  • @noloferratus

It's a hobby. It's not preparation for an actual battle. It's what people call "fun".

  • @noloferratus To my understanding, most of the rules of SCA combat are designed for safety, rather than to promote a particular fighting "style" or competition format. As far as combat is mentioned in the stated goals of the SCA, it is "to present activities and events which re-create the environment of (pre-17th-Century Western Culture), such as, but not limited to, tournaments, jousts..."

  • Ok but what is this combat intended to be modeled after? It can't be intended to be a fantasy game if your sparring with weapons over two pounds and it also can't be a simulation of medieval combat if your disallowing blows to the shin which is the most obvious target against someone using a shield.

  • Great fights, great video, great fighter!

Hail from the Kingdom of Lochac (Australia+NZ) where i am but a lowly squire

  • @TheodricLives Thanx!

  • omg i thoiught you couldnt do that windmill stuff no more. so when are ya gunna come vist us in the niceville area. dave (artex)

  • I'm old but I'm not dead yet!

so that answers that question, you're still in the Niceville area. I don't rightly know when I will.

  • I just finally got past the bad connection to watch the video without hangs and realized I was too hard on bludgeon. There is no way he could know you are The Cuisinart. Not knowing your Pell-Godhood he must assume your swords are 4 ounces each.

  • LOL True.

  • I wonder if bludgeon would be willing to let Baldar wail on him with his unperiod 2.25lb sword >:)

    Read a book.

  • Agreed! It's harder to argue 'physics' with a sack of blood hanging off of what used to be your leg.

  • doesn't anyone use period weight sticks anymore or has everyone moved to ampgard weapons without padding?

  • Well I'm pretty sure that Ampgard still uses pvc tube. SCA still uses the Rattan since 1988 when I started. Now weather it's period weight or not, you got me. However, I can tell you that the rattan sword that I'm using in this vid is 31" and weighs aprox 3-3.5lb. What weight would you consider "period"?

  • sorry man, I'm not tryin to be an ass. I dont know where you are from but its a trend that seems to be spreading... However that stick can't weigh 3-3.5lbs. The physics of it just don't match up. I re-watched it. the part I was referring to was garis fighting some guy in blue. Those sticks are uber short and can't weigh 3lbs. Short swords in period where as heavy as longer swords usually because the blade was thicker. So add strapping tape! Also, swing with some strategy!

  • No problem. I'm in Trimaris, Tampa FL. I reweighed my swords: 31"@2.5 and 34"@2.75. You were Right! However, check out the weights on wikipedia for a Viking sword and a Falchion, both are stated to be 31.5" and under 2.5lbs.

I'll take swinging with some strategy into consideration. Thanks!

  • it also stated the more common falchion weighed between 2.5 and 3. The metal of those swords was pitted and the handles had rotted away. could have lost .5 pounds over the last 900 years.also, it wikipedia man. you have no Idea who wrote it. 2.8-3.5 is better in my opinion.

  • Yeah well...Wikipedia says I banged your Mom.

  • LMAO, who use a 31" stick anyways? answer: people who need to be super fast because they don't know how to set up their opponent! you guys aren't from An Tir so quit acting like it. They can kinda set people up a little though...

  • Thanks for your insight, NOOB. I hope you can come and teach me the proper way to fight someday. LOL

  • Had to block your last reply. Too many expletives. so in all fairness I have reposted PG rated version here below. Now go wash your mouth. LOL

  • bludgeon0884: Well bleep, you wouldn't learn blip from me because you'd be out. Wouldn't be the first time I decided to knock some bleepbloop out because he thought he was so bleeping badass. The mace sword is reserved for you! You are the noob! I feel sorry for you if you aren't. You've wasted a lot of time! I know noobs that could block every one of your predictable shots.

  • The "mace sword" heh heh heh nice!

  • very nice

  • the guy in blue is totally pwning at 1:00
