That's typical! In the Twinsonic folder I have here the models are explained exactly like that, the R-mirrors reflects only to one side, the X-mirror reflects both ways and the 12F has the flashers on the cutdown mirrors.
Well mainatined, this was a very good lightbar, bright, visible. Much more visible with the 55 watt bulbs that it was with the 35 watt ones. Had to keep the lenses polished so they didnt yellow or fog out. Had this bar on a patrol car I drove back in the day, loved it.
Excellent video and lightbar! The grandfather of all lightbars......Twinsonic. The music goes very well with the video.....I just wish the video lasted a little longer.
The 1968 lightbar used on "Emergency!" classic tv that show started in 1972 in LA County. I live in my city still have red twinsonic lightbars on "Back-Up" fire trucks (if one of truck down for maintenance and use the back-up truck).
i feel the Cascade mirrors are good for applications where the backside of the lightbar is hidden from view, and the X-Cascades for way up top applications
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police used to use this type of lightbar in my province back in the Early to mid 1980's. The only difference was they used Red and blue lights. Later in the 80's and early 90's they tried the Federal Aerodynic (Aerosonic) version of that lightbar.
Now they run mainly Code 3 lp6000's and Excalibur light bars, plus a few Whelen Edge lightbars.
it could have been the factory date...alot of ordering for the twin sonic went on prior to the actual manufacturing date...remember, no internet back then, so things took a long time.
we have the old gumball lights like you mentioned (Beacon Rays) but they didn't have a siren between them..but it had a light and electrosiren unit mounted just forward on em..now they're just in storage
nice light bar but what is the song

This is a model 12 twinsonic. a model 12 only has front flashing cascade mirrors. there is NO model 12R.

Great video!
I think this is a model 12R instead of 12F by the way ;)
I just love that slow sweep the Twin (and Aerotwin) makes. Perfectly 80's looko

Maybe a 12X
WAFFENSCHUTZSTAFFEL3 2 years ago
no, it's a 12R. The X has divived mirrors, to reflect both rear and front. This one only reflects to the front, that's a 12R
The 12F has flashers on top of a half mirror (the lower part of the 12X)
fopneus 2 years ago
Well I know about the F model and I have a 12 X but I have both my mirrors facing the rear

Not being criticial, but ya need a little more amperage goin into that bar to speed up those rotators a little. :-)

Nice bar dude..
How long you had this it's very old 1968 I believe is when this came out to replace the gumballs mounted on a bar with the siren in the middle.

close ,but no cigar...1970 was the year introduced ... no sweat.

Ok stupullen:
How come the twinsonic has a 1968 sticker on it on some bars then?..Hmm.. If my camera took good pictures I'd show you one that says 1968 on the bar.
