Um, watch Chris Cunningham's ad for the PS1, it's weirder. Also the design team for the PS1's Wipeout distributed fake sheets of acid with character logos on them as a promotional ad. If anyone thinks that Sony has ever targeted anyone other than a hardcore stoner demographic then I don't know how to respond. This ad continues Sony's trend of trippiness, b/c Nintendo already had all the little kids w/their system, and Sony figured that pillheads glued to the sofa needed something to do.
