  • "Dusk by Genesis (before phil collins was even in the band!)" only just started reading charlies diaries. it's like an indie movie in literature

  • I was listening to this album well before "Charlie" was around, but, if he is introducing Genesis to kids around the world, good on him.

  • The end of an era - I defy anyone to play me anything new that can shine like this!!

  • Makes me feel sorta proud that I knew these guys simply because I had good taste in music not because I read some book :P

  • @BlackTeddies Yes, =] but at least now more people know about it =]

  • Okay i have never even heard of genesis and i love this song all thanks to you Charlie:)

  • @DulcieK i have! wow how did you know?! >.<

  • before Phil Collins was even in the band!

  • @stopstartkim have you read the perks of being a wallflower by any chance?? :)

  • Yes Charlie, you were right. This music makes me feel like I'm apart of something.

  • dear friends, i have friends. :3

  • I'm pretty sure I'm one of the few who actually liked Genesis without having to read the perks of being a wallflower.

  • @FreckleeFacee1 I didn't have to read it to LIKE it. I just had to read it to FIND it. I would have liked it no matter how I found it.

  • Charlie's mixtape.

  • Peter Gabriel brought the theatrical effect and the class

Phil Collins brought the rhythmic complexity

    Tony Banks brought the virtuosity

Steve Hackett brought the progressive world...

    Mike Rutherford brought the band

and Anthony Phillips brought the English charm and the pastoral universe that typifies Genesis

Indeed, he brought some of the most important thing that made Genesis look so unique

  • Genesis without Steve Hackett or the well known drummer still sound magical. It has a dreamy englishness quality to the song.

  • Who does Charlie happen to be?

  • @SmokeMaxxx, Charlie is the main character in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. this is one of the songs in the mixtape he made for his friend Patrick.

  • so i'm not the only one listening to Charlie's mix tape? :)

  • @TheCherryBomber1 Everyday :)

  • @TheCherryBomber1 Who is Charlie? And what mix tape?

  • Beautiful, beautiful - had this as 18 birthday present and was played at my party - magical , wonderful.

  • @worldcitizenforever they came from other planet, probably!

  • Dear Charlie,

Thank you for making that mixtape.

I just can't get over how great it is. and how much it has inspired me.

    Love Always, Chelsea

  • Will Phil stop tapping the bloody triangle or clashing the mini cymbals

  • @frenchexperience Haha...Phil wasn't with them on this album - it was John Mayhew ;-)

  • @Delphi333 Ha Ha Ha he was indeed. You need to check your sources dear boy.

  • Respond to this video...Phil is a triangle tapper.

  • i love this song(:

and the fact that the featured video is MLK by U2.

aaaaand the perks of being a wallflower. :D

  • Genesis Six Hours LIve 1972-1980 2DVD set, Genesis The Lamb Live at the Shrine 1975 3-disc 2CD/DVD set, Genesis Live in Montreal 1974 2CD set, Genesis Live in Zurich 1977 2CD set available at Tommygun Video, please see our Youtube channel for link, video/audio clips, more details

  • i think the greatest vocal performances by PG is to be found here on Trespass and the lamb. That scruffy, souly quality is what makes him the best vocalist of all time, in my book he beats even Freddie Mercury, whose main influence was actually PG ;)

  • EXCELLENT, this is sublime

  • This is my fave from "Trespass!" Gabriel is just an awesome force of talent, not to mention the other musicians in this excellent band! Who can shout their praise enough?

  • Genisis and Gabriel at their hight.. Genesis and Yes were both truly bleeding edge music at that time.

  • @CE750 bleeding close to the edge

  • i have the original album in perfect condition if anyone wants to make me an offer as times are hard

  • I'm here after reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower and i really like this song. I've been trying to find the mp3 version for a while already but i couldn't get it. If anyone of you have it, can you message me? Thank you :)

  • @worldcitizenforever your right so right

  • Not surprisingly, Peter's voice sounds weak in places on a song this short.

  • If you grew up with this quality you have a license to kill the idiots that ...claim they are belgians and indeed are simpleminds making terror!

Born bastards never grow up anyway.

  • if theres beautifull melodies that could ever be found....love this album...and selling england by the pound.)

  • charlie sent me!! currently reading 'the perks of being a wallflower" pg.98 and i can't seem to put this book down!! :D

  • Dear Charlie,

i adore your taste in music. i wish i could meet you. your the friend i always needed in high school.

    Love Always,

    Lydia

  • @goodnessgraciouslove

Charlie does have amazing taste in music. he would help a lot of kids in high school. i think we are all grateful :)

  • @goodnessgraciouslove i hope you found out in high school that you are the friend you needed in high school. :3

  • @goodnessgraciouslove who the fuck is charlie

  • @SRNF Main protagonist of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", a novel by Stephen Chbosky. In the book, Charlie makes a mix tape, and this song is on it.

  • @goodnessgraciouslove I love how everyones connected by charlie :) It makes the world a happier place

  • @Megnatification Yes it does!!!!!!!! =] =] =]

  • thankyou Charlie!

  • charlie sent meee :D

  • @iloveyoumuh555 charlie sent me as well. :D

  • Why God has created death?

  • @gerardocoluccini why people is so stupid to believe in God?

  • @jcast18k The most stupid man is the one who doesn't respect other people's opinions, especially towards questions so crucially in our lives, like this. Anyway, I'm sure you're so angry with God because you need him the most, though you'll never admit.

  • I love you Charlie. :)

  • Brings tears to my eyes and goose bumps on my arms..........Say no more

  • It's such an underrated album. These guys were 20 years old at the time they recorded the album, amazing! One of Genesis' finest cuts ever, LOVE the whole album, it's a masterpiece of prog rock.

  • @lilic1 Why do you say "underrated"? It doesn't seem to me. Anyway, I'm with you about the great value of the whole album. I love the more "Dusk" and the magic "Looking for someone".

  • @gerardocoluccini Because I've read on many different pages and forums that it's not a very good album.. See allmusic.com for example. Their music developed so much between 1968-1970, that I can't explain it. Trespass is a masterpiece, with very mature material on it, personally I like it far better than Nursery Cryme.

  • I listened 8 years ago

  • Andrea Freitag oder Sylvia Hantjens? Ok beide nich, war zu schüchtern. Mein Lied 1980!!!

  • Mein Lied 1980...

  • 40 anni che meraviglia....

  • yes mantained its essence? i don't think so, just hear 90124 par example

  • ¿por qué "maravilloso" entre comillas? ¿no es en verdad maraviloso?

  • just a fine memory arose from the deep of my mind........listen closely and enjoy...

  • remove that horrible 'songsforfree' sign

  • I'm wondering who composed the melody for each song. For this one, I would say Ant.

  • @Forsure3333 Banks was very active in writing melodies.

  • this is just só'ó great! Nothing to compare with it,

  • the perks of beign a wallflower:) READ ITT!!!

  • This just takes me to another time. Hard to describe how it makes me feel. Truly magical and the sad part of all is music like this will never be made again, ever. I read so many comments on here from people who yearn for the old days when life just seemed so more joyous and uncomplicated.

  • If you don't know about Genesis Six Hours Live 2DVD set 1972-1980 by now go to my Tommygunvideo website and check it out

  • Definitivamente , es mi grupo peferido, grandes maestros , es maravilloso que esta gran musica perdure por tanto tiempo !!! siiii estupendos, no hay mas palabras !

  • If you like them, you might like a band - well a duet I suppose - called 'ANYWAY' that do covers of most of those. They have a cover of Hackett's 'Spectral Mornings' which probably makes Hackett jealous. (They struggle with Yes's material mind).

    I don't think they've taken a shot at PFM yet ;-)

  • Yep. Terrible shame what came later.

  • John Mayhew disappear for a lifetime, without taken any royalities 'til nowdays, and then he's gone forever. The Pete Best of Genesis. RIP

  • This one is all the more telling, considering the recent passing of John Mayhew. Rest in peace brother John...

  • this is the first album i listen from genesis and its my favorite

this is before p gabriel goes opera or something like that(im not saying that i dislike the other records but trespass is the one i always listen )

    thanks!

  • This song and album are morbidly underrated, this makes me sooooo relaxed!

  • I couldn't agree more! This is a lovely song, and "Trespass" is indeed very underrated.

  • Absolutely love this!
