Eiketsu3000- true, different sources show different things, im not a professional historian so I don't really know the answer. The source I was referencing was from wikipedias list of the worlds deadliest conflicts (im aware though that wikipedia has its flaws but other sources also show the toll from the Taiping Rebellion at 20-30 m) WW1 statistics are also debatable ranging from 15-59m. But even if the figure is 2m that still represents twice as many people as the population of Birmingham!
It is good to see someone is commemorating these massive upheavils. They seem to be largely unknown in the west. The only way I know is through the internet. With a scale of death similiar to WW1, the Taiping Rebellion certainly should be remembered. Thankyou.

The claim, that An Lushan was Persian, is nonsensical.
He was a Turk born in Sogdiana. FYI, Turks were a
dominant people in Central Asia before and during
An Lushans time.

Medieval and modern China seems to have nothing but
series of wars, massacres and tyrannical governments.
I feel sorry for its people. I hope they start living peacefully
once again. I hope China becomes a great place to live in
once again.

I think some facts may be fun for you
Population of China during Qin dynasty (221 B.C): 20 million
Population of China during Han dynasty: 50 million
Population of China during Tang dynasty 618 A.D : 80 million
Population of China during Sung dynasty 960 A.D : 100 million
Present population of China 2008 A.D : 1350 million

To Eiketsu3000, what I mean ancient was the An Lushan rebellion in the Tang dynasty
The number of deaths in a war can be attributed to many factors
One key factor is technology
Thus using WW1 to compare with Taiping Rebellion is not accurate as well
ifart16 3 years ago
You cannot compare ONLY number of deaths in a war
You must compare
1. Number of deaths
2. The population of the warring factions
for example, Country A killed 2 million soldiers of Country B
But what if Country B has 200 million men that is 1 percent of the population
What if Country B has 20 million men that is 10 percent of a population?
ifart16 3 years ago
I think what you say is wrong
2 million deaths are quite a lot in ancient times
many asian kingdoms populations have less than a few hundred thousand let alone 1 million
go and check the population of the world in 756 A.D
in Napoleon's time 1800s (1000 years later), France only had a population of 22 million

An Lushan is a Persian. So this is not a civil war.

Yeah, but none of the Tang Emperor's are pure Han Chinese.
Most of them are mix blood between Xianbei and Han.
