I'd suggest making the shot come off of the barrel at a much higher velocity... if you're charging that much energy, you're not going to expect it to move slow enough to track

What exactly do you mean? the light illuminating the surrounding area? or the glow from the ball/trail?

for the light i just created an omni light, wich i attached to the sphere ;)
