"'All' means 'all' only in the first half but not in the second half of romans 5:18" -- THAT is clearly the argument of the calvinist, and THAT is the very definition of eisegesis. because you MUST impose textual inference and redefinition into selected scriptures if the doctrines of "reformed theology" are to stand up against the clear and overwhelming teaching of the bible from genesis to revelation.
it's not about arminianism vs. calvinism - let the Word of God speak for Himself!
@luxlucis777 in context of Luke2:3, it's talking about all in the Roman world... it means that all under Rome did-- or rather more specifically, all in Judea.
Likewise, "All" in context of Rom 5 means all men. There is no other way to be consistent with the language in Romans 5, which uses the same "All" to talk of sinners and those for whom Christ died...
@luxlucis777, In Romans 5:18 all means ALL. Not even Calvin himself argued that point regarding this verse. Look it up. Calvinism is an illogical cabal of philosophical semantics that perverts the simplicity of the Gospel. It is an inaccurate and illegitimate interpretation of God’s free gift of Grace to ALL who are under the Adamic curse.
@rsoneill21, All are not forgiven because after hearing the Gospel, all do not repent so they can then make the choice to receive the free gift of salvation. The ones who don't receive the free gift do so knowing they will be required to repent and give up their sin. Of their own free will they choose to not give up their sin.
If man does not have a free will then why does God need to harden a man’s heart in order for God to accomplish His will?
Now we reach a rare moment where I actually agree with you. "All" means "all." The word "πᾶς" (pas) in the Greek is used both times. Christ's atoning sacrifice was for all men.
@dfoglemantx You can't just say the Christ's atoning sacrifice was for all men. You have to say that his atonement was sufficient for all, which would then mean that it only applies to the saved ones. OR, you say it applies to "all;" then all would have to go to heaven or we would have a weak savior. So make some clarification here.
Its ironic Anderson is always spouting " Faith Only", yet he is obsesses over and demonizes all other denominations.......
So from Andersons POV, Salvation is not only "faith", but also requires correct doctrinal belief.
If Salvation was " Faith only", then it doesn't matter what version of christian doctrine the believer accepts. All christians have faith that they dont beleive a lie.
Yet from Andersons POV, correct doctrinal belief is also a requirment for Salvation.
The logic doesn't hold up. It says " the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life." So are all men justified? I love how the last 4 words were read real fast so we wouldn't pay attention. surely you don't believe everyone is justified or you wouldn't be such a "soul winner," going door to door. If all means all in this verse, then all are justified. Either everyone is saved and missions are pointless or "all doesn't mean all" love to hear an educated response not lashing out.
Drew....I couldnt have said it better brother! I would also love his eisegesis of Romans 8:30...that all who are justified will be glorified! The only good thing about Mr Anderson's church is that its a supposedly very small church...less than 25 people or so I have heard.
I'm not Arminian or Calvinist. I'm a Bible believing Baptist. I agree, Arminianism is heresy, matter of fact, I have a bigger issue with the Easy-Believing Arminians than I have with Calvinists. I agree, faith is a gift from God. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Rom. 10:17.
@9unknowndouchebags, No one said God's plan was to wait around for people to "get it" and choose Christ? God’s plan was to have Christians, beginning with the disciples, go into all the world and preach the Gospel. Faith comes by hearing the Word. The Gospel is powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. It's the power of the Gospel that saves!
Your analogy of ALL is silly.....The Word says to 'ALL THAT RECEIVE HIM'.....so if I bring gifts to my son's entire 2nd grade class and my only requirement is that they come up front and receive it and there are those that refuse....do I just say oh well and follow them home and put it on their kitchen counter to force it on them? Yes, Jesus Christ is The Way of redemption for all men; however they are required to receive Him and He knows who are His by their fruit
I don't want to add anything to John 3:3, but I think we have a condition there. To be born again one must repent of their sin and Jesus is the only one who can receive the repentance to grant God's forgiveness.
I appreciate your heart and the intended purpose of your post.
I just read John 3, don't see where it says to repent to be born again. 1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Jesus does make references to "go and sin no more" but salvation is by faith alone.
By faith and believing in God's words we of course turn from sin and repent. We still sin but a TRUE Christian feels convicted of sins and repents.
FAKE Christians, like "homosexual Christians" we see popping up everywhere are NOT saved obviously. If they believed on Jesus and his word, then they would not feel comfortable in their wicked sins and worse yet, be PROMOTING IT as justified to other people!
its talking about all in terms of people in general, the letter is written to the romans and its trying to tell that they are sinners to through adam as well as they can be saved through the second adam, Jesus Christ
Please watch my video which shows that Romans 5:18 does not refute the doctrines of grace...or just read 1Corinthians 15:22-23 for yourselves...

Salvation by faith. I agree with that.

I'm not sure what you said there.
Salvation by faith and saved by grace through faith is sorta the same thing.
Basically, we are saved by faith on Jesus. Not works.
There should be no dispute on this.
