In that case ,pounding your own positions can result in creating more casuality's for enemy than for friendly's ,since friendly's are been overrun and would get killed greatly anyway...

There was one instance where US troops were going in to kill a load of civilians hiding in a bunker/building for revenge, a US chopper pilot flew in front of the bunker and made them leave them alone, I guess that's what you get with conscript armies...doesn't make it ok though.
