@Staticnz LOL ..Yeah he sure did,...The rest of the band just had no input..Jimmy did it all ..he's such a let down...LOL...Your funny...If Jimmy was the bad one...How come he's in the Hall of Fame Twice...?.
@frostbitewinterwind I don't know about any of that, just that his playing is a bit shabby compared to Blackmore, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, Peter Green, Hendrix, etcetera. I just think out of many of the great guitarists I've heard he comes in last for his tone, technique, melodicism, and especially his solos which are mostly awful.
He does have a few good riffs and a few good solos, so he isn't like the worst ever, just not in the same league as many others.
@Staticnz That is so wrong. Jimmy Page has FANTASTIC tone, however folks running sound in the 70's were not equipped to handle the sonic requirements of Zep & for that reason tone suffered live quite a bit.
As for shabby playing, also not true: yes, Page always reached beyond "comfort zone" live, that is why he is considered one of the most innovative rock guitarists of all time... but rest assured he can play very cleanly when it is called for - that is why he was so in demand for sessions
@Staticnz the Yardbirds were burnt out and overwith when Beck quit . Page 's Yardbirds were basically an infant Led Zeppellin and Little Games was def a departure from the blues standards
I always thought he is the coolest guy in the world since the 1970's and that was the best time for music and entertainment and people were nicer back then. what do you think
Yes he is such a lovely gentleman. In the special features of the "It Might Get Loud" DVD, he spoke of how much longer it took back then when he was learning guitar as compared with nowadays. Edge said with a smile, "So you were a slow learner?" Jimmy said "Yes, and I was a slow learner in life as well" and laughed. He may have been a slow learner in life, but he sure has it down pat now!! What a beautiful man.
So dantean which 50s blues song did zeppelin rip off for stairway to heaven, going to california, thank you, kashmir( i would actually like to hear a blues version) etc etc
Your talking about a select few songs like heartbreaker, one whole lotta love. Willie Nelson is credited on the album (well after some legal action). They did go on for 12 years and if you think the some of Led Zeppelins catalogue comes from 2 albums your sadly blinkered. Oh and you are also a racist twat :)
"Just stick with it" is pretty facile advice coming from a guy successfully sued more than once by guys (sorry, I meant niggers) by 50s Chicago blues artists like Willie Dixon for stealing their shit and repackaging it for half-wits from the suburbs who would never know the difference. This, of course, unless what he really meant was, "just keep aping the nigger music until white radio catches on. THAT'S how you make the Hall." That I agree with. Rock on, Jimmy!
Jimmy Page is the best in my eyes, he has aged nicely and is such a classy guy. The best guitarist ever. As for Cream they never achieved what Led Zep did not even close.
@weavermomo Cream was miles ahead of and beyond Zep. The musicians were all better in Cream (Zep even tried to recruit Jack Bruce after Cream's breakup with JPJ switching to keys full-time). Personality differences broke up Cream, not lack of any sort of musicianship. You are comparing Jimmy "Fumble-fingers" Page to the God!! Get a life.
I love Jeff & Jimmy, too, but it was Eric Clapton who started it all with the Yardbirds. Then Eric & John Mayall made the greatest blues rock album before Cream happened.
Jimmy always seems so genuine in his respect for Beck, in spite of their differences in the past. I just saw the Beck gig at Ronnie's on TV (mind-blowing, by the way) and it was so cool when they showed Jimmy in the crowd, beaming and cheering his childhood friend. Anyway, if you'd like to see some raw slide-guitar blues, check "Underground" by Rosetta West on my channel...
@PwnHack He's a natural occurance with a guitar, like rain, thunder, lightning, or an earthquake...But his voice is so smooth, and he's so nice and tolerant of this phony. I've got a mental "Bucket List", and meeting Jimmy is at the very top. I'm only a 21-year-old girl, and I know this man's playing like I know myself. =)
@vracan The man's a good 46 years older than me. I grew up with a dad who played the best of the best throughout my entire life. I remember when I was a baby-yes, that far back-when I was screaming at the top of my lungs. We had no crib, so I was on the floor in the corner of my parents room. My dad put on Led Zeppelin's 1st album, then walked out during "Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You". I thought it was my dad playing, so I rolled over to find he wasn't there. 20 years later, I'm playing guitar. =)
I don't think you can can a more "humble" guitarist than Jimmy Page. He's always been far better at coordinating the studio than playing a single lick.
I think Jimmy Page is KING of all guitarists period. Too young to see Zep in concert, watching the Song Remains at the midnight movies, in the early 80's was the next best thing. Watching his moves, and hearing his play for almost 2 1/2 hours straight, from that 1973 footage put you in another world.
@babystinky Even in his party days hooked on smack otherss called him a gentleman always doing what was best for the music & the audience. He knows he's great he has nothing to prove by pushing himself into the front to do a solo when another was there to be honored. He & Beckwere mates way back in the beginning, along w/Ronnie Woods.
Isnt it funny how two of the greatest guitarists to come from the uk, were hanging out as youths, before the spot light.. How fucking cool would it have been to be a fly on the wall at there first jam....

@CleRoyster What were Zep up to? Just making hoardes of money, and creatively peaking after only 3 albums, and still seen as one of the greatest bands of all time?
@SevenofSharpNine -Uh ok? I was just stating an observation - He could worship Satan and fuck midgets .....and for all we know , he did!! That still doesn't take away the brilliance of his songwriting, playing and producing but Hey....I could be totally wrong. Who gives a fuck?
Actually he's a HUGE influence on me... But it's a documented fact that he was a junkie. I've also been around long enough that I know when someone is on drugs and Jimmy is clearly fucked up in this video...... I'm not sure why you care that I said he was on drugs.
Jimmy Page, l've been his fan since early 1985, and never stopped, from 1987 til 1990, 95% of the music l was listening was Zeppelin. Page, Hendrix, Beck and Blackmore are my favorites, and of course Page is my #1 of all times. When he was at his prime, no one could beat him, Speed, Devastating Riffs, and Unreal Guitar Solos, miles ahead of his era, Page had all the special techniques the other guitar heroes had.Its sad that he burned too fast, all those Zepp shows consumed him.
I think that Jimmy wanted to deck the tool that did the interview (he probably sicked Halfin on his bloody azz). It was funny how he went on and on about how long he knew Beck, could it have been so that the interviewer couldn't ask him any more stupid questions that he's answered a hundred times over...
I'm falling for this man all over again. He was so sincere about his advice for young artists; he seemed passionate about his answer. Beautiful advice, especially when compared to the advice Beck gave when the interviewer asked him the same question - his reply (in case you didn't see it) was kind of a sarcastic "good luck" and chuckle. Not that I'm being rude to Beck, I can certainly understand that answer; but Jimmy's was full of hope and positive energy.
What a goofball interviewer. Then again, if I were standing there trying to think of something intelligent to ask him that he hadn't already been asked a thousand times before... I'd probably come off like a poser too.
One thing I notice about Jimmy Page, whether it's recent times or back in the Early days of Zeppelin, he comes off like he's optimistic. "Believe in yourself." I think it probably has a lot to do with his success.
I heard an online interview with Page a few years back where they asked him about the dragon suits. He said they were still hanging up in his closet. They asked if he ever puts them on, he laughed and said he wouldn't be able to get waist of the pants around one of his legs now.
Great to hear Page tell this story. It seems like only dedicated Beck fans know it. Two of the best guitarists ever to walk the planet, pals at 13. Beck & Page, along with Keith Moon, and John Paul Jones recorded ( a single only unfortunately), before Zepplin. Most interesting of all is that the name, Led Zepplin was coined (not used) by this group. Ahh, twists of fate. We might never have had Plant with Page then. Big loss that would have been.
@heyslay Sometimes I just don't think the younger generation gets it and well....we invented it so listen up! Jimmy is the ROCK GUITAR LEGEND that everyone looks up to. He invented new sounds, new techniques and so much more...He may look old but he's wise.
i know there is only one word to describe that movie FUCKING WIZARDRY funny thing is he alctually has a lot of interest in the occult and alester crowley
HELL YEAH. and yeah i know. im not sure if hes still into that anymore. haha watch him lead like some sort of cult. :P i would join no questions asked. and i was saying he was the original badass. wannabes followed. and he still is the original badass.
i love how he talks, now that he's older he sounds so cute, if i didnt know who he is i would never think he was a rock n roll and sex god in the 70's
Page played on Joe Cocker's with a little help from my friends as well.
Clapton was in the Yardbirds until for your love came out. Then he left to join John Mayall. Beck took over and when they needed a bassist he suggested Page come in. Then Beck started twisting off and not showing up for gigs so Page took over on lead and on the nights Beck did show they did dual leads. Would have been awesome to have seen one of those shows but I did get to see them play with Clapton at the LA ARMS show.
Jimmy Page is a genius, his influence cannot be understimated.
Funny how Led Zepplin and other breakthrough rock from the late 60's and early seventies holds up very well over time. Its the spiritual , creative energy that is so inspirational.
Can we say the same for the slop heard on popular radio today? Much of today's junk will sound dated very fast and will be forgotten.
Page. 'Achilles Last Stand'. Enough said.

Page, Hendrix, Beck and Blackmore are my favorites, and of course Page is my #1 of all times. When he was at his prime, no one could beat him, Speed, Devastating Riffs, and Unreal Guitar Solos, miles ahead of his era, Page had all the special techniques the other guitar heroes had.Its sad that he burned too fast, all those Zepp shows consumed him.

no hatin but its always american interviewrs that pose the stupidest questions and most retarded interviews, jimmy page still cool as ever though.

Just imagine how much better LZ would have been with Beck.
Now I'll sit here and wait for the morons to chirp up.

Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck, two legends in Rock music.
He is a pretty calm and nice guy, on stage (most of the time) Page looked a bit cocky..

Never heard Page speak before (or maybe I just don't remember it).
I like the way he talks.
He has a mighty pleasant way about him, does Jimmy. Especially
