Really good song. This should have at least scored very high on the R&B charts in '62. I wonder what the record's chart success was. Thanks for posting this great Soul sound!
Ann & the Challengers III "Honey, Honey, Honey" was huge in Cleveland. We called it Honey 3 Times. Ironically, Ann doesn't remember cutting "Everybody Knows But You" for the Marvelettes but does remember "I'm Gonna Hold On Long As I Can." She also fronted two early sides attributed to the Andantes.
Thank You!!! This is another song that has rolled around my memory from back in the day! Mike The Lover would play this song 3 or four times in a row on his morning show. I believe Ann was from Akron? Anyhow, this is one of the best 60's soul tunes that never got its due. Thought I'd never find it. Alright for the MotownMaster!!! It was the shear amount of great singers that forced Motowns hand in many cases. History was not kind to the Bogans or the Emmanuel Laskey's
Thank you so much for posting this song! I have this record and I never knew Ann Bogan was the lead singer on this record. If Ann is listening, you sang beautifully!!!
Wow Ann Bogan is very underrated. She probably didn't have much success with Motown because was pushing towards the commercial mainstream pop market. Ann Bogan has that strong black gospel sound which Motown was trying hard to get away from. That's the reason Diana Ross was chosen to be the lead of the Supremes instead of Florence Ballard. Diana Ross had the pop sound. Florence had the soul churchy sound. Somebody need to post Ann Bogan other group Love, Peace, and Happiness.
Exactly! Like Motown steamrolled over so many talented groups due their want to cross into the mainstream media at any cost. Resource management was more of an issue then. Especially with the level of talent Motown possessed and underutilized!
Well next time you talk to Ann she has lots of fan all over, i hope she see's this video one day, ive posted several songs she sings lead on, including the other Challengers single "Everyday" and a song she sang lead on with the Marvelettes, i love Ann Bogan
Ann Bogan is alive and well in Cleveland, Ohio she is singing with a Gospel group now. I was a member of the Challengers for a brief time before being drafted into the army. I talk to Ann from time to time it is great that someone knows how good she was. I am now a member of the New Hesitations, also of Cleveland, Ohio
What & where is Ann Bogan now? She hopped around quite a bit all thru the 1960s;at first as a soloist, then as a member of this group & that-eluding major stardom as a result-But i like her!
Her most famous claim to fame will be as a Marvelette-replacing Gladys Horton in 1967-69.
Unfortunately, Motown& the Gordys were busy turning Motown into"The Diana Ross Show"...Dropped were very talented women including Brenda Holloway, Kim Weston, Martha Reeves,Ann Bogan etc.-save for the anonymous Supremes. But ALL the men of the company were kept...

Ann Bogans solos as a Marvelette include the riveting "I'm Gonna Hold On Long As I Can"-1968 &"Everybody Knows(But You)"-1969.

Ilove this song. It has that Patti Labelle and the Bluebelles feel to it. Great!

I have been a Motown collector here in the UK for 37 years. I have never ever heard this record before.
Many Thanks

Too Bad Tri Phi didn't have the promotion muscle that Motown had in those days. This record would have been at least Top ten on the R & B charts.
