So...wait...couldn't just switch the branding entirely? Or was cable still doing 5?

No, they needed the brand recognition. For the record, on most area cable systems, WRAL is on channel 3. Not sure why.

@hkfreak They went back when they got a new tower. They were still licensed by the FCC for channel 5.
