OK there are international students who pay enormous fees to be in England because in their countries to have studied in England looks good and THEY go home after their course. then there are some who use it as a visa/passport into the country and will never go home but suss out the system and scav it all back in benefits after. Or is it just a 2000-2009 decade and current decade problem. Were there immigrants in, say, the 1990s for example, or just in the post 2000 world? I'd just like someone to clear it up for me thanks. I presume a lot of immigration to the UK is because those countries have language or cultural ties to the UK, since we colonised them. Yeah I know the 'open the floodgates approach' would do us no good, and in fact, it would damage a lot of those countries through massive emmigration. All I'm saying is the situation is understandable, as you admit. Therefore when you say 'Why do we have any Somalis, do we need them?' it is a callous thing to say. That's all.

It's kind of surprising you would be that ignorant of America considering your profile says you're from Canada. It's Philadelphia cheese-steaks not hoagies and I doubt anyone from Philly would say something that ignorant unless they were a complete schmo. We're part of the urban northeast, we don't embody the rural redneck south stereotype up here.

Not only in Philly they have them further north near the US/Canada border. I am far from being ignorant and there is a difference since a hoagie is a cold sandwich with coldcuts and lettuce and a cheese-steak is hot with only meat and melted cheese. A cheesecake is... a cake. I guess on a world stage you only feel that people who are not from the US can express their ignorant views and consider it freedom of speech but if an American corrects thoughs obvious mistaken views then they are the ignorant ones. How completely hypocritical.

As I recollect, and I have eaten many, a hoagie is a sub, with steak, melted cheese and onions, kinda spicy ok. Of course cheesecake is a cake duh. I stated I Iive in Canada, or is Canada part of the US now? Since u are so country oriented, you tell me. Actually PSb87 When I was at Uni and paid £3400 for my course there was an Albanian Asylum seeker getting his fees paid for because he was 'fleeing' for his life. When he applied and got his UK passport he went to Albania for his holidays (regularly) it was that dangerous!!!!!

of course not all immigrants are bad it's the liars who claim to be asylum seekers a mass of parasites plus the wave of Eastern Europeans coming to put their noses in the trough too. They are all a burden on the country financially. I can only assume you are in a position not directly affected by it all, I and millions of others are affected and hence feel so passionately against immigration. It's their greed and deceitfulness The immigrants I'm talking about don't work in those key sectors

and for the comments before...if immigrants get everythin easier...when i was at uni and was paying £1300 in fees why were internationals payin 9/£10000?? surely they shud be gettin it free if what your saying is correct, PLUS if you gotta degree and the ability to earn thousands...why u gonna claim benefits? u cant go on the dole if your earning good mney

No you're confusing immigrants to international students. OK there are international students who pay enormous fees to be in England because in their countries to have studied in England looks good and THEY go home after their course. then there are some who use it as a visa/passport into the country and will never go home but suss out the system and scav it all back in benefits after. Not everyone who does a degree makes mega bucks, I don't and I have a degree.

all the new build social housing in London are 100% immigrants occupying these properties. Then that's not good enough for them as they then claim to split up with wives in order to get a second council property which they let out for a fortune. one Somalian guy who had a council house in London which he sublets coz he tried his luck with one up in Scotland where he didnt let on he already had one in London and Scotland gave him a house. Eventually he wants to buy the one in London .

Also psb87, what makes you so sure we don't work, it is because I work I am so affected by this immigration problem. I don't get given benefits.I struggle for a living and then struggle to pay high rents becaue there is a shortage of housing and rents are high because landlords can rely on housing benefit for the immigrants. How many Somalians occupying council housing are working? There a few who drive buses then those who work doing cabbing or shops who work on the side

You say that natives are on the dole well isn't that the point of the topic- jobs are being taken by immigrants but hey RIGHT they're not sitting "on their arses" THEY'RE working AND claiming benefits,having social housing and council tax paid for. costing this country a fortune, that's why natives moan you said you are grateful for what Englands given you (do I take it you are not a native) well I'm native and Englands given me nothing only my free education and NHS
