@tanmacs - You have not and never will have 300 PowerPC Macs or more. And how old are you, too? Where would you even get the money? Are you like a secret billionaire?
@FinalPhaseTechnology Yea I have owned over 300 PowerPC, most of them were used look on ebay for price, most of them were under that. You just got to now the right people and place to get them.
can I ask why you bothered installing this? do you own a multimillion dollar company with heaps of clients accessing your OS... or are you just a dork with nothing better to do then play around with software you think you understand.
@Melishunt your a real idiot. He doesn't need to own a multi-million dollar company to have Mac OS X 10.6 Server.Maybe he has a small company at home with several other computer he manages from that server. You need to stop being a troll to another people and you yourself could think about a life rather than trying to post comments on people's videos to make the feel bad, dork.
@michaelw352 now even though i understand frustration, it ain't right to go saying someone has a mental age of a three year old. i'm sure they're much smarter than that, since they've spelled words properly, and i assume they can type, which i've yet to see a three year old do either well.
Mac os x Server, or Windows server can be used for home too idiot. My dad uses it because he has a website. With server you have more options for the actual servers in your home. Its an essential if you have a website viewed by many people or own a computer.
@Andre35822 now even though i understand frustration, it ain't right to go saying someone has a mental age of a three year old. i'm sure they're much smarter than that, since they've spelled words properly, and i assume they can type, which i've yet to see a three year old do either well.
@Melishunt can i ask why you bothered asking this? have you been deemed a professional critic of people with tech videos....or do you simply enjoy talking down on people who like to do things for free. cmon, this is pretty grimy. can we please show the guy some love? he did record this and allow the youtube community to watch it, not for his health, but because he felt like sharing. shouldn't really matter what his motives were for getting the software.
@MrPs103 Well... I thought if he was going to bother installing a server... then going through it he might actually get to know it a little better and explain some interesting things about it rather then the obvious GUI features etc. for example finding advantages of having it rather then just the normal software etc. But no his ego got the better of him and he rushed it online just to PROOVE that he has like it's a huge accomplishment when really it's shown to be a complete waste of time.
@Melishunt i see what you're trying to do. you'd hoped he'd explained more detailed things, which is fully understandable, and i agree that could have been done better. also, i feel that the guy shouldn't be stomped simply because the execution of his review was sub-par (maybe even par by today's standards). regardless of someone's motives or actions, we should show love to our fellow man, simply because it's the right thing to do. i say this in love. have a great day :)
@MrPs103 good point. I agree with the showing love cos it's the right thing to do. 'Currently on my high horse with some bible basher who believes in only doing the right thing because of fear of being judged not just beause it's the right thing'
And yeah I was hoping to learn more about the servers because I had the opportunity to install it but still don't know if it's worth it even though Ive seen him do this video I am still lost.
@Melishunt may i have that "bible basher"'s name? i want to pray for them, since they seem to have the wrong focus. on your second point, maybe there's another video out there....
So basically what is a server helpful for, or what is the purpose of it, why not buy time capsule for only $400?? someone plz help me figure this out :)
@cowboyfimbop are you done now? honestly i don't know why we're throwing our opinions around as if they're set in stone or something. does it really matter if he didn't like powerpc? does it change your opinion of it? and either way, must we bash the guy to death? for everyone's sake, please drop the hating and show some love.
@Garegin Funny... If you mean about POWERPC not running Windows Natively,i ask you WHY would you try to use windows? A PowerPC Mac Had all the normal and beyond required software... Mac did long ways before all this eye candy things. Anyways.. it was a different time, different engineering, different problems/solutions.
When 10.7 comes out with 10.7 server, if there's an evaluation copy I'm going to download it. Could I dual boot that with 10.7 desktop edition? I'd only want to do this to like play around with it for a while and... test... it's features, then on it's last day install MacSweeper on it and play Lose/Lose a couple times.
@windowstomacintosh You can use Snow Leopard Server for all the normal tasks that you would use the client version for, but you get the extra features such as NetBoot.
I have a unibody white MacBook with Bootcamp and Snow Leopard desktop operating system already installed. I want to dual boot Snow Leopard server though because I just wanna be able to play around with it and try it out on my mac. Would I be able to do it? What are the mimimum requirements for Snow Leopard server because I have 185 GB left of disk space.
Its unfortunate that I can't legally run OSX server on anything but a Mac...The Mini isn't powerful enough for my needs, the Pro is out of my price range. Not a massive deal as I get Windows Server 2008 for free through MSDNAA, but still. Anyways, I'm ranting.
@kiddfroster only if its cracked, if you use the acctual mac osx disk retail its fine because its not designed to work on pc's but some mpotherboards are very similar so they do work :) thats why they have to say: "Intel based mac" not a mac
@madbab00n Well if it's cracked, then it's illegal. But still, Apple could sue me if I were to install SL Server on my netbook simply because I am violating the "contract" that I agreed to when I installed the software.
When you download the evaluation trial or something, when you install it can you dual boot it? Because when I get the new MacBook I actually would like to try that out.
