@barthyb .... englands full of cool people making great music....and just doing great things...... im not saying that reflects on me in any way because im english......im just saying alot of cool people come from england
@TheTwollocks I agreed with regards to our Armed Forces...History...Music...and the decent people from England and all over the UK. I'm not saying our Country is perfect...but then what Country is? :)
i developed a Gold Fish theory while listening to this album with friends . on acid. it stemmed from a religious topic . i suggested that, when you die . when your brain is no longer supplied with oxygen . blood is no longer moving . that your mind dwindles too .. to that of a goldfish . this is significant because when a gold fish swims to one side of its bowl . it thinks its been doing so forever . your last thoughts whatever they maybe - are forever .. hence eternal bliss . or eternal hell
That is not acid, is talent. Drugs cant help u to be better in your job: a lot of rockstars don't use them... And all doctors would use Vicodin if it were true that it makes intelligent to Gregory House... This song is forever.
@SupTennison .. intellect and creativity are 2 different things .. talent is not a job .. and what rockstars do you listen to that are drug-free .. youtube Bill Hicks ..
@SupTennison A non talented rockstar only could make one hit songs... But, what´s the point? Do you think is imperative than a rockstar use drugs for his (her) creativity?
I don't see why anyone would ever need any kind of mind-altering substance when there's music like this.. this is sonic morphine, the best high, and it really doesn't need any supplements..

Long time stoner and lover of music here, my dad got tickets for the reunion gig at hyde park a few years back. Walked away loving them, took acid for the first time when I was 17 and just lay back to this track, I will never forget that feeling or that time of my life. Born 89 and 21 now, trust me people there are still people opening their minds to many things. There will always be the closed minded, that is an unfortunate fact, but at least we know what it's like to be 'free'.
most teens nowadays like rave and dance music, i'm probably one of the few teens that loves listening to Pink Floyd. I'm going to see the tribute band "MacFloyd" in a month but nothing beats the original =D
i love pink floyd music and songs esp this one and comfortably numb... i regret it so much i did not watch their 1994 concert in London. but i got the dvd of the concert which i play over and over when i want to unwind ... they are the best ...
Alcohol, marijuana, mushrooms, LSD. I haven't used any of them in a long time and this music, this song, all of these songs, they are just as powerful, if not more powerful, than they were before. Shine, all of you. You crazy, beautiful diamonds.
I mean ... as soon as I heard the first 4 notes ... i am hooked in and enjoying again!!!
God bless these guys, all of them, even the ones that have transformed (i.e. no longer with us).
I am beginning to think that all the musical talent from the generation these guys came from is DYING with them ..... the new so called musicians are dead already ... IMO.
top 10 pink floyd songs 1. shine on you crazy diamond(that song got me hooked on floyd) 2. wish you were here 3. comfortably numb 4. dogs 5. time 6. eclipse 7. echoes 8. money 9. great gig in the sky 10. happiest days of our lives/ another brick in the wall part II

Hi, Aprilbaby1960. I'm actually a 1956 boy and I can totally connect with your 'best orgasm ever'. I loved acid and mushies and of course, it really opens one up to different perspectives. Thank-you for the response.
Geez, im 16 now. I've always wanted to drop acid but the word is now that the probability of finding real acid is slim. Maybe someday i'll get the chance to experience mushies though.
Oh yes, those weekends just lying sideways across my bed Listening to "Wish you were here" Sgt Pepper & Exile on Main st. Long Live the Astro Travel. Good Drugs with Good people. Thems were Good Days.
@aprilbaby1960 I was scared and intrigued the first time I did shrooms. For the most part it was interesting, scared at the end the night. Was it a bear, locked my selve in a car..
Got to be one of the best tracks ever written, you can tell its really personal to Dave, it's just got so much feeling in it, every single note...What a band...what and experience they are!
The problems with acid and most psychedelics is they amplify emotional and mental problems. I've taken large amounts of numerous C1's. I'm lucky I dont have any lasting effects, cause sometimes the halucinations dont end.
You may be pulling our legs a little, considering your last sentence. I only indulged maybe 100 times in LSD and 'rooms. I'm not sure about the 'amplify' comment. I expect that the effects are different for everybody.
just saw your post just wondering how old you are 13 im 49 i remember my purple and orange dots well all my children are healthy maybe your problem is your mother forgot too teach you not too eat paper just a thought from a dot girl too a blotter
im a big fan of syd but in the end if he didnt go crazy there would not have been any of the later music. dave never would have made the scene. the basis of the later music was syd. im not saying that the music is more important than syds sanity but i am glad syd gave us a short burst of genius then moved over and let the next pink floyd era take place.
Come to think of it, you're right. I like a lot of Floyd, but I have to say their masterpeices are the tributary songs to Syd. I doubt they would have made such a stir without these songs..

not everyone, there are always some idiots who think it was a good thing to do! Well, actually, a lot of his genius came through drugs but he exaggerated!
look guys, i love PF as much as any of you, they are gifted masters of studio large form pop but if you like large forms then respect gnious then check out Shostacovich first violin concerto, symph #5 or &7... or any list of
symphonic composers. beethoven ,prokofieff , bartok.
hey don't get mad , it's the same stuff PF listened to as youths!!
Hardest decision I had to make in the early 70's - Same night Birmingham (Pink Floyd) or Wolverhampton(Yes). Went to see Yes at Wolverhampton Civic Hall - Love them both but wish I had got the train to New Street
Wow.. That was a tough choice. After Roger Waters left the band I conciously decided not to bother seeing Floyd, thinking they would be rubbish. What a fool I was... Consequently I have never seen them live. The closest I got to 'Yes' was seeing Rick Wakeman's 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' show here in Brisbane. Now THAT was spectacular! Cheers.
Syd Barrett, then Roger Waters, then David Gilmour - the 3 "stages" of Pink Floyd...and Nick Mason, who was there from the start until the end (until the Division Bells struck). Syd, who lost the light in his eyes (not just because of drugs (even that was - I think - just an implication))...now forever. Roger, who wrote about him (Shine on..., Animals, Wall, ...), and then David, who sung about him with his guitar and saxophone... Unbeleivably honest, credible, real witty guys, real friends!!!
Syd's first trip, and Shine on couldn't be anymore perfect together. It just fits. This song reminds me of Syd EVERY time I listen to it. The song is beautiful, just like Syd himself. SHINE ON 4_EVER SYD BARRETT!!!!!!
...without Nick Mason, the reunion would be like that of Queen (without Mercury). I don't know... Until Nick was alive, and Roger, and David, I wished they would join again. On Roger's concert, when he came to visit our country, I shouted as loudly as I could (from the 1st row): "Join Pink Floyd!!!" - and he heard it, maybe even smiled for a moment, but then...nothing happened...and now Nick passed away too...and I think the chance is lost forever, like the Sun-Shine from Syd's eyes... :(
Nirvana 'Something in the Way' is 20 minutes long, and Santana's 'Soul Sacrifice (woodstock Version) is 12 and a half minutes :P jesus they're long!!!!
The full version of this song is nearly 27 minutes, making it Pink Floyd's longest song. It was too long to be put on one side of a vinyl LP, so they split it over two sides. And the longest rock song is probably by some obscure prog band that nobody's heard of and probably lasts, like, an hour.
Oh my God!!! LOL!!! I can't get over how many verbal fights occur on You Tube. It splits my fucking head open from laughing reading all these crazy ass comments! In my opinion the Floyd Rock! but that's just me ;) The way I see it is if you don't like what you're seeing you can watch something else that you do enjoy. No need for all the bickering. But, it still fucking cracks me up!
The best part is that if they were in person they wouldn't have the balls to say anything, but since they are protected by that glowing screen the have to flail their internuts at us. HAHAH!
You hit the nail dead on! You're right, in pearson they wouldn't say shit! But when in their comfort zones at home on the computer with no face to show they say anything. I think for the most part it's youngsters just doing what kids do. I remember making prank calls on the phone and just loving it! So I guess I'm really no better. ;)
Well at least you ADMIT it. A lot of them don't use correct punctuation, grammar, or even spelling at that. But it's okay; we all know who's the failure. It shows a lot about your character even though we've never met....
wow, you're a fucking CUNT! how can you not like pink floyd? how can you talk shit about syd barrett?? what music do you listen to? it probably sucks just as much horse cock as you, fucking moron!
this song was not just about syd barrett in an interview "Shine on' is not really about syd; he's just a symbol for all the extremes of absence some people have to indulge in because it's the only way they can cope with how fucking sad it is-modern life- to withdraw completly."
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
syd was best of floyds, the rest of their music is just boring so-called art crap, if i compare it with Piper (and madcap, barret, opel of course) I love them and their work, but thats just my opinion, and I know most of you will dissagree with me...) peace
What if Syd hadn't gone crazy? Sure, Barett laid the foundation for the band's success. Came up with the name and all that... But would Pink Floyd really have become that great band that gave us Meddle and Dark side of the moon? David Gilmour wouldn't have joined the band either. Honestly, I think the Floyd did better without him. But who knows what weird experimental music we could have heard from the Floyd if Barett would have led the band for over 20 years instead of going crazy?
im only 14 and when i listen to ant floyd song you fell like nothing else matters and its just you and the world, but since wreckanoid is right there might be a planet
I wore out my pink floyd albums in my teens(late 70's). I would spin their albums just about every time I dropped acid or ate magic mushrooms. Miss those days, you felt a freedom that doesn't exist anymore(at least not in amerika).
I miss that 'feeling' too, zmanzmanzmanzman1. We all thought people would change for the better, but unfortunately, the greedy and selfish won the race. Now look where we are. We told 'em in the '70s that we were fucking the planet, did they listen then?
'lite' anything will never disgrace the inside of my 'fridge - much less a 'Miller'. Beer should be dark and strong, and I experience the relaxation that only the truly complacent can, thank-you.
Pink Floyd was my " make out" music... I crack myself up how silly I was .. I mean sneaking boys in my window!!! No actually it was the other album.. so relaxing..
This takes me way back to when I was 14 and used to lie on my bed and trip to this music in 1971...yes I am old.. but what a great time of life it was back then, when i saw them in concer for only $10..
don't worry, pink floyd fans aren't all old, i'm 15 and still listen to pink floyd lp's every day. There are still young peepz with a good taste of music, you just have to look through all those bieber fans and stuff. Rock won't die. ever.

Nirvana 'Something in the Way' is 20 minutes long, and Santana's 'Soul Sacrifice (woodstock Version) is 12 and a half minutes :P jesus they're long!!!!

Tool's Disgustipated is 16 mins long, but what a ride
Draculoid 3 years ago
The full version of this song is nearly 27 minutes, making it Pink Floyd's longest song. It was too long to be put on one side of a vinyl LP, so they split it over two sides. And the longest rock song is probably by some obscure prog band that nobody's heard of and probably lasts, like, an hour.

is the 3: 47 to 4:42 part usually in the recording? because in the ones i have at 3: 47 it goes to the vocals.
Is this one a different version?

Oh my God!!! LOL!!! I can't get over how many verbal fights occur on You Tube. It splits my fucking head open from laughing reading all these crazy ass comments! In my opinion the Floyd Rock! but that's just me ;) The way I see it is if you don't like what you're seeing you can watch something else that you do enjoy. No need for all the bickering. But, it still fucking cracks me up!
polyneux74 3 years ago 2
The best part is that if they were in person they wouldn't have the balls to say anything, but since they are protected by that glowing screen the have to flail their internuts at us. HAHAH!
redlightexitsign 3 years ago
You hit the nail dead on! You're right, in pearson they wouldn't say shit! But when in their comfort zones at home on the computer with no face to show they say anything. I think for the most part it's youngsters just doing what kids do. I remember making prank calls on the phone and just loving it! So I guess I'm really no better. ;)
polyneux74 3 years ago
Well at least you ADMIT it. A lot of them don't use correct punctuation, grammar, or even spelling at that. But it's okay; we all know who's the failure. It shows a lot about your character even though we've never met....

this song was not just about syd barrett in an interview "Shine on' is not really about syd; he's just a symbol for all the extremes of absence some people have to indulge in because it's the only way they can cope with how fucking sad it is-modern life- to withdraw completly."

Its incredible that he lived till he was, what, 60? The shame is very few know there would be no floyd without him.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
syd was best of floyds, the rest of their music is just boring so-called art crap, if i compare it with Piper (and madcap, barret, opel of course) I love them and their work, but thats just my opinion, and I know most of you will dissagree with me...) peace

I wore out my pink floyd albums in my teens(late 70's). I would spin their albums just about every time I dropped acid or ate magic mushrooms. Miss those days, you felt a freedom that doesn't exist anymore(at least not in amerika).
zmanzmanzmanzman1 3 years ago 4
I miss that 'feeling' too, zmanzmanzmanzman1. We all thought people would change for the better, but unfortunately, the greedy and selfish won the race. Now look where we are. We told 'em in the '70s that we were fucking the planet, did they listen then?

'lite' anything will never disgrace the inside of my 'fridge - much less a 'Miller'. Beer should be dark and strong, and I experience the relaxation that only the truly complacent can, thank-you.
