  • not picking sides, but since i figure skate.. GO FIGURE SKATING!!!!!

    lol :)

  • can be done on ice but i think it looks best on roller skates

  • this is terrible

  • All I know is, when you fall while roller skating...you don't really slide. I prefer ice. I can't roller skate worth crap! LOL! Amazes me that people can do these moves on wheels.

  • Actually, this move has been performed my multiple ice skaters! The only move I know of that cant be performed on ice is a broken ankle camel on the inner back edge! Jus sayin.... LOL

  • Course this is possible on ice

  • Actually there was a figure skater who from Germany who competed in both Ice and Roller named Marina Kielman that did do inverteds on both ice and roller.

  • @cgenthnerjr , Yes Marina was a complete atlhete, her best performance was in Hungary in Worlds you can wacth her doing inverted Camels and camel travel

  • If you're good at spins on the ice, you can do that easy. Like Dick Button and Yuna Kim.

  • Haha ya u CAN do this on ice. Easy.

  • I must agree with 17sleepingbeauty, I do both figure skating and artistic freestyle roller skating, BOTH are beautiful, and BOTH are very similar yet unique. I believe though that roller skating takes more talent, strength and agility. Just imagine adding 5 or so pounds to your ice skates....it makes a big difference.

  • awsome!

  • you CAN do this on ice you idiots!!!! of course it would be difficult, but it can be done!!!:P

  • nice spin! i wish i could do that.

  • @Sk8rGurlROXX Hey ever heard of a YouTube Troll? As far as roller being easier, you are right except for jumping (its harder to jump with 10lbs on your feet than with 2lbs) and spinning (more friction means its harder to spin) but standing on one foot is easier. Oh and pairs is easier also (no KNIVES on your partner's feet) thats why roller pairs is way better than the ice pairs. check out the pairs vid on you right.

  • @Sk8rGurlROXX Just did a shipping check. Harlic boots with a MK Gold Star Parabolic Figure blade ships at 3lbs 6 oz. The same harlic boot (which is the boot I use) and and Atlas Exel roller plate and Roll-Line wheels ship at 10lbs 3oz. See you can't just make things up I have the internet right here. Thats something a TROLL would do.

  • wow!

  • umm why not just figure skate......its so much better!!!

  • @Iceskatergirl22 seriously you need to get over the whole 'ice is better then roller' because both are equally fun and difficult in their own way, and most things that are done on ice can be done on roller as well and vice-versa, roller skating is exactly the same as ice skating except for the fact we don't skate on ice.

  • @cloudsbringnsexyback um ok....but why not skate on ice?

  • @Iceskatergirl22 its really a matter of personal preference you prefer ice and i prefer roller

  • @cloudsbringnsexyback ok jeez...

  • wait...why not just do ice skating! its the same thing but much more fun!

  • wow um idk if yr stupid or retarded or both butt yu na kim performed that spin stupid ass! u need to get over u and yr sport and just except that figure skating is better!!! end of story!!! (:

  • im a figure skater and that can definatly be done on ice

  • yeah, you can actually do that on ice

  • @KristinK624 search "how to do an inverted camel spin" or the other video is roller skating inverted camel" but they are done on ice. proof is in the puddin. Kitty whaley is the ice skater and the coach is John Esposito

  • @minniemum23 I watched the video and its very impresive. However if that spin was done on rollerskates it would recieve a downgrade to a layover. If you pause the spin and look at the standing foot on the ice video you'll see. The Standing foot should be facing 12:00 straight at the free leg like in this video. The ice video the standing foot is facing 3:00. Its a matter of physics you can't get the foot to 12:00 the spin will stop.

  • I agree with 17sleepingbeauty. I have been ice figure skating for 12 years and I have been practicing at my local roller rink for 2 years. I have a coach in both sports and enjoy both equally. I can't stand people fighting like this.

  • i have done this on ice

    thanks bye

  • stupid tittle and i´m a roller skate teacher

  • ok actually u can do that on ice! if you dont believe me u can ask Yu-na Kim herself

  • @JaMgirls1 Yu-na Kim doesn't do the spin like this..

First of all, she bends her free leg. Second, she doesn't bend her knee that much because she does her signature spin differently.

  • A lot of people are saying, "This can be done on ice!!!" If so, then where is the video of someone doing a layover camel on ice with a straight free leg? If you find it, please let me know.

  • @sk8theice1 yes it can be done on ice and it is posted on you tube. it was taught by a roller skating pro. bad video, and spin not as good as today, but have not been able to get a new one uploaded.

  • Comment removed

  • That's a layover spin, which can be done on ice. And admit it, figure skating came *first*, and roller skating copies all of figure skating's moves. I saw the lady in this video doing crossovers, and they weren't near as pretty or powerful as ice skating crossovers, because the edges are different for blades and wheels. People probably just wanted a warm ice rink when they invented roller skating.

  • u can do that on ice! watchu talkin bout?

  • I had no idea you could spin in roller skates xD

  • Yes, this can be done on Ice, but it varys on what is in fashion. Take a look at Yunas camel , it is similar but with a free bent leg

  • actually, this can be done on ice, it is extremely difficult, but yes, it can infact be done.

  • Being a former USARS Regional Judge, most spins done on roller can also be done on ice with the exception of the heel and possibly the broken ankle because of the edges, but I agree with 17sleepybeauty, both sports are beautiful and graceful, but with constant attitudes like the title of this video is one of the reasons why roller will continue to have a hard time to ever get into the summer olympics! BTW, this is a layover camel spin, inverted camel spin is much more difficult! ;-)

  • You are right, I hate the title of this video. It won't really help ice skaters to grow some respect to roller skaters. Instead, it will bring more fight and hate.

Please willisfrog, change the title of the video. I see your point but it's not nice!

(Btw, I am a roller skater myself)

  • you can do this on ice....

  • ok seriously people, i have skated both ice and roller and all of you need to cut the crap about "my sport is better than your sport" yes some things are harder to do on roller skates but if done properly both sports are beautiful and graceful :) you guys r just making urselves miserable with anger...

  • i watched yu-nu do her spin, yes it is very pretty but i would really love to see her extend her leg like jennifer goodgame :)

  • @chimchar817 I hav seen yu-na. every time she does it her leg is bent, she apparently cant extend it. please tell me if i am wrong, but i hav never seen an iceskater extend their leg while doing the inverted....

  • thats just her style, not that she isn't capable of extending her leg. she just bends her leg to make it look more dramatic and pretty...

  • @chimchar817 well it doesnt work. it looks as if she has a broken leg lol. it would be much more impressive if she could extend it :)

  • before i retired from skating i trained part time with yu-na (brian was my choreographer). the reason she, and other skaters, don't extend the leg is simply because it is not in fashion to do so. it's actually easier to extend the leg on skates (in my opinion) as the weight and center of balance are more evenly distributed that way. but trends... that's the reason for the bent leg.

  • YUNA KIM!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

  • figure skaters can do an inverted camel longer than that.

  • grrrrrrrr! right, all of you ice skaters keep your opinions to yourself! you may prefer your sport but i'm a roller skater and i enjoy it alot!!!

also, i can almost do this spin :D its really hard and i usually fall because i slow down too much!

but yeah, if you don't think its graceful then try it and you'll find that it really is ;P

  • im not saying it isn't hard im just saying it would look better in figure skates thats just my opinion

  • Comment removed

  • @Sk8rGurlROXX not really, you don't know me so how do you know that I'm 'scared because it's so much harder' and I 'hate the cold'. You're really annoying, and learn how to spell.

  • If you don't think this sport is graceful, then clearly you don't know enough about it. Roller Skaters can do so much more then Ice Skaters with just as much grace.

  • yeah right

  • @ChessieLuver Roller skaters can do so much more than ice skaters? Like WHAT?

  • How on earth can you turn graceful on those skates?

I think she IS very good, but i think this sport isn't graceful..

  • there is a problem with that:

1- can't make the blade spin backwards while the skater if turned over in an inverted position.

2- did you know that ice got their so called travel camel from rollersport as well as many pairs teams have used roller pairs as a model. ASK LUDINGTON.

  • Fantastic!!! Love the old school look - puffy sleeves and no OTB tights! But great spin!!!

  • LIES this can be done on ice and it looks soo much more gracefull and beautiful than on roller skates. Btw the lines of this skater need improving and she needs to turn her foot out more.

  • I agree!!!! You can do this on ice, so ha!!! ^_^ It is posible becouse my coach did it before!!!!

  • Well technically it is an inverted camel. And it is a lot harder on ice but it is possible. Well certainly is if you're name's Yu-na Kim.

  • TRUE but UNLIKELY.

  • ya it couldd be done on ice :S

  • You can do that on figure skates. I know cause I skate, and i can do it, but it's still a beautiful spin!!

  • yea?this is stupid this sport copied figure skating?even check figure skating started befor this gay stuff?UMMM...yea im a juv skating and i can do that?

  • "this sport copied figure skating"

Who was the first woman to do quad in competetion? Was it Mikie Ando? NO! It was Heather Mulkey and she did it on roller skates. Oh and every juv girl singles skater can do this on roller. If your trying it make sure hips are completely turned over. Its not a layover its an inverted.

  • Comment removed

  • ha ha..right yea??im a figure skating at ladies juv and im pretty sure i can do that?

  • That is not an introverted or a yu na camel spin. That is an unbalanced spin almost like one who is not usually trained well in the balance and the required speed combined. I would be extremely careful if you attempt to do this spin on wheels. You need to straighten up the leg position as well as the overall body lines.

  • this CAN b done on ice

  • i KNOW this is can be on ice skates!! But, it looks cooler and more difficult on roller skates!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm both, roller and ice (figure) skater and I have to say, iceskating is WAY easier!

  • Comment removed

  • i agree to all. i say it can be done on ice. and ive always wondered how you can do various edges when the wheels are in each corner. i cant wrap my mind around how stuff can be done if theres not straight alignment like on a blade. but maybe roller skaters think the same for ice..??..

  • The unpressed wheel will slide that's how we spin. Think of it like this one wheel is planted and the other slide around it. That's why ice can spin longer than we can. The resistance with the floor is what helps keep this spin up that is one reason among others as to why ice can't do it.

  • thats so cool. but yes it can be done on ice. i watched a bunch of video last night to show my boyfriend the difference between roller inline and ice skating (he doesnt speak english very well and doesnt know skating lol) and happened to find a video of this spin being done on ice. let me find the link and post

  • Is the spin being done with a bent leg. If it is very cool for them I really like that spin like Yu Na Kim. But its not the same spin. The center is very different and in roller it would not get the same points as a full lay out inverted. It is concidered a easier variation. Ice can do very pretty variations to this like with a bent leg or not fully turned over but to do this spin as she is doing hasn't been done. At least not that I've seen on the world stage ever.

  • i AM a figure skater, and i have done this successfully, after years of practice of course.

  • I skated roller and ice (no world champion). I found jumping easier on ice and spinning easier on roller (more variety).

  • i'm personally a figure skater and though i think figure skating is maybe a bit more graceful i'm assuming that roller skating is probaly harder with the wheels and is every bit just as good as figure skating

  • I found this on wikipedia: The sport is very similar to ice figure skating. However, roller figure skating is often considered to be more difficult because the ice allows the skater to draw a deep, solid edge to push off from when performing jumps such as a lutz or an axel. On roller skates it is not possible to use the same kind of deep edge in that context, because it will confuse in the rotation, making it difficult to land properly.

  • Your wrong about that, rollerskaters do edging just a deep as ice, but rollerskaters can also jump off a flat. an iceskater who does that will fall down, so I'm told.

  • Roller skating is on wheels and not on a blade. Most people wood rather watch ice skating than roller skating becasue roller skating is choppy slow and the spins and jumps just are simply not as iimpressive. If u agree with me pleeze say so.

  • i totally agree. ice skating is better. period.

  • I don't agree. If you don't like roller skating is that your problem, but roller skating is a beautiful sport. The difference between ice skating and roller skating is not big... Most people just love the populair things like ice skating. But if you ever do a lesson of roller skating you will see that roller skating is a sport that haves a lot of fun.I ask you just one thing, stop with calling roller skating stupid and i hope that you're so good in your sport that you shut up about other sports.

  • I love both grew up with both preferred rollerskating and it looks more graceful etc becauseyou are gliding one ice with a blade and the whole skate isnt nearly as heavy as roller skates that is why it is harder to be a rollerskater trying to do everything say on ice with way more weight and with wheels I think it takes a lot of talent and muscle in rollerskating

  • You preferred rollerskating or iceskating? I am a rollerskater but i like ice to! It's beautiful, but rollerskater is more special for me because it's a special sport that's beautiful to. I like roller and ice , it's both beautfil and graceful for me.

  • As I mentioned I much prefer ROLLERSKATING I would go ice skating once in a while and I remember finding it so easy to ice skate because of being a rollerskater I know that its a much more difficult sport-rollerskating is because of many things as I also mentioned. As a kid I always liked a challenged and rollerskating was much more challenging and I just totally liked it way better!!!

  • What I like about rollerskating is that you can be a champian without being a "Star". Competing and going to college is next to imposible on ice but roller does that all the time because we don't have the judging eyes of the public on us. Your right about the jumps and spins but roller skaters aren't doing it for the fame or money, no money at all really, so in my mind that makes it a more pure sport.

  • I'm a figure skater so i don't really understand all of this, but for people that say its a stupid sport and its a toned down version of figure skating are way wrong. Like, this looks just was hard as figure skating, if not harder. Even though its true most people would probably pick ice skating over figure skating it's just whats most known, I'd have chosen ice skating too obviously because i figure skate but i also didn't even know about it. It's personal prefrence and you can't rip up either.

  • i could do that on ice too.

  • Inverted camel toe!

  • uh...HELLO! you can so do this on skates. josee chouinard did this!

  • Whhhaaa the ..... !

  • im pretty suree u can do that on ice skates... the ony thing really diff. is that ur doing a back spin...

  • one more thing- my mom made many outfits for olympians (people you know if you follow the sport, but i wont name names). she was also a former national roller skating champion and a coach (i was a world class figure skater myself). on many occasions, these olympic caliber ice skaters would come into our rink for fittings and watch roller skating because many had never seen it. one in particular saw me do this spin and had never seen it done that way in his life. its original to roller skating.

  • also- yu na kims version is very close. her foot does turn over, but her hips are not square to the floor (in roller skating they must be square to be considered an invert and not a layover), and her free leg is bent. they free leg being bent may seem minor, but having it close to the body makes it easier to balance, and she is essentially doing an outerback upright, but leaning back more.

  • Yes and if Yu Na's leg was straight you'd really be able to tell how twisted her body is to make it look like she's fully turned over. These ice skaters argue this and I'm not sure why. They are trying to say that this can be done on ice but no one is a good enough spinner to do it. I don't believe that at all. Ice has some fantastic spinners. No one is doing this spin not because they are not good enough but because it is not possible.

  • ok ive read all these ice skaters making comments about the ice version of this spin being the same as the roller. ITS NOT. when someone does an invert on roller skates, the foot actually does a 3 turn in the middle of the spin so that the toe of the foot your spinning on is facing the same direction as the free leg.

if you dont get what im saying, stand up and get in camel position, then do a layover. notice how your foot is facing away from your free leg? thats a layover.

  • Okay your attitude needs to do a 180. Why is it dumb and pointless. Roller skating tought me about hard work dedication and teamwork. I'm sure ice has tought you the same thing at 3 times the cost. BTW learn to post a video its what the YouTube community is all about.

  • ok u could say u could do that on ice but u dont need to say roller skating is dumb and pointless cuz i roller skate and it is not dumb and pointless. it is a beautiful sport that takes time, money, and concentration.

  • uhm, so does figure skating......

  • Yeah, but vondutchblondee, roller is a lot harder. People who can do roller can easily do ice. People who do ice cannot always do roller. Go figure!

  • yeah i agree, i can ice skate but can't roller to save my life!

  • @amernob i can do both, but im not trying to say everyone can. i ice skate and in my opinion rollerskating is easier, but then again, i never trained roller like i do ice, so you cant really judge my opinion. like my sister, she loves to skate and she thinks roller is stupid, i disagree, but she hates it so much, and i dont know why, she even gets on my account and trash talks roller people ( she is 13 ) and i get all of these messages from people she hurt. i think both sports are equal! DONE!

  • @Sk8rGurlROXX I think you should be proud of your sister being so passionate about something. Learning not to tear others down to lift yourself up is a skill that age will bring but even maturity wont bring you passion, so good for her.

BTW she said that her skates weigh 10lbs. In roller, the cheeper the skate the more it weighs. Ice isn't the same? Expencive skates weigh more than cheep ones?

  • i don't like roller skating.

  • de gustibus no est disutandum

  • What does it matter? Grow up please.

  • uh,, yeah you can do that on ice.

  • actually i have been roller skating and ice skating lots of times before and ice skating is lot more harder an you can injure your self more seriosally and i and 1 now and i do figure sakting now profecanly because it is more of a challenge

  • your comment barely made sence whatever bye.

  • and johnny weirs outfitts definatly dont need to be touched up on! im not such a big fan of him but he has beautifly costum made outfits that take a lot of time and money you idiot!

  • you can spend a lot of time and money on tacky outfits...just look at the red carpet sometime. Sasha's outfits are not nearly so ornate but still classy and not gaudy.

  • how could you call skating outfits tacky? there anything but tacky. and how would you even know anything about them? it takes a lot of time, different fabrics, long hours of measuring etc. so please, dont tell ME skating dress and skating wear is tacky. I would know. bye.

  • you're a moron. I didn't say skating outfits are tacky. Maybe you should read my comments before replying to them. I said Sasha's(as in Sasha Cohen) outfits are classy. Compare that to Johnny's (as in Wier) over worked, over designed, TACKY outfits. I would know I skated for 18years and had many tacky and classy and even some realy cool skating outfits. Again READ BEFORE REPLYING. thank you

  • .. and nevermind, now that ive waching it a few times, i dont think this spin is the most graceful thing... its a little strange looking to be totally honest... but once again thats just my opinion.

  • & plus i think figure skating has much more grace, poise and beauty in it. we dont need all these long combo jumps to make it difficult and impressing! its already difficult and impressing just how it is. and now a days we are already pushing quads, and there being landed. also, studies show figure skating is one of the, if not THE hardest sport to master.

  • actually gymnastics is the most difficult to master, that is the fewest percentage of people have a talent for it. I think we are remembering the same study. And Jonny Weir's outfits are just weird! Love him to death but just very odd.

  • sorry i didnt mean that. there both difficult sports to master. i was just thinking about how figure skating a has a lot more elements and stuff like that in it. roller skating has some pretty cool stuff that cant be done on the ice and figure skating has some pretty cool stuff thats cant be done on roller skates. but i do think balancing on a blade is a bit harder than being on roller skates. just my opinion.

  • really really nice. but figure skating is a lot more difficult to master.

  • and hey fatskateman!! there are plenty of ice skaters that can do a 9 jump combo PERFECTLY!!! and i can do an inverted camel spin on ice!!!and ice skating is sooooo much harder!!! that is why IT is in the olympics!!

  • 9 single loops maybe. My region has a loop contest every year at our regional championships and the record number of single loops in combo is 56. The physics of roller skating makes it harder not easier, extra weight, graiter friction and such. Roller skating not being in the olympics is a much more complicated issue than being harder or easier than ice. Rollerskating has its +s, its cheaper, we can do long combos that ice is not even allowed to do , and this spin. Glad you have an interest.

  • but can anyone do multiple double, even triple loops in a row on rollerskates?

  • sure look around you can find lots of cool videos of jump combos on roller skates

  • Hey cdemery ice skating is not harder i roller skate and trust me roller skating it a lot harder because u have to make sure u have the right wheels barrings and boot. And just because something isnt in the olympics doesnt mean it isnt hard!!! They have World's competitions in roller skating guess what that is hard to get into. So please! Ice Skating is not soooooo much harder than roller skating they are just about the same!!

  • yeah u have tto have the right blades and the right boots for skating too.

and how much would a 'professional' roller skater or whaveer it is have to pay for their skates?

  • Umm every ice skater will agree you CAN do that. You should try Ice skating. Tara Lipinski was a national Roller skating champ at 5 and the 1st week she was Ice skating she converted everything she had learned on the floor on the ice. She had to clean things up a little but 8 years later she was an olympic gold medalist. I don't know that much about roller skating. And I have to say roller skating looks just as complicated as ice skating and all i geuss but not as graceful

  • Tara won primary girls singles at 8 BTW. Plus ice skating is not for everyone, i hated it. I just couldn't deal with falling and getting wet. Its a different sport but just as valid, so you shouldn't tell us we should switch to your sport when we already have our own.

  • ahhh yeh we can better jumps 2!!!

  • why dont you guys pay attention to the video and not the title... seriously grow the fuck up

  • YES you CAN SO do that on ice!!!!!! what the heck??? i KNOW someone who does that!!!!

  • Why cant roller skaters and ice skaters get along? Grow up people, seriously.

  • Amen snarly49!

  • There's a spin in ice skating called a layover spin that is basically this.

  • in roller a layover is this spin done incorrectly and is given a deduction. The hips have to turn over completely, a layover is just a camal that looks up.

  • you can too do that on ice stupid!!! I have seen that done about 20 billions times at the ice rink!

  • Its not just a camal that looks up at the roof she is completely upside down. Sorry but look closely your ice friends do not get their hips to completely turn over like that. Ice do some really beautiful spins but this is not one of them.

  • YES you can do that on ice!!!

  • not gonna lie, as a figure skater....this is pretty good hah

  • this spin would sure be hard 2 do on the ice! i dont realy like da way it looks bt, i know that it would take a long time 2 get! does any1 no whether u can do this on ice? i no it says on the title that it cant be done on ice bt just incase does any1 no if it can b done on ice???? =]

  • ya well my mom made me get a different account,sooooooooo.....

  • ohhh you got in trouble with your mom!! just kidding. your mom thinks i'm cool

  • Oh Snap. never knew how much ice people and wheel people hated eachother until i read these comments =/

  • I know! i am an ice sk8er, bt i dont hate pple hu roller sk8! i dont no y day hate each other?

  • bewildrbeast: LOL i know what you mean!!! HA it's so weird... im a rollerskater and i dont have a problem with ice!

  • same. and i'm a figure skater lol...

  • i rewatched this spin and it really does look horrid, and no one can deny it. look at yu-na kims inverted camel it just looks so lovely. just cause u layover more, doesnt mean anything. and the combinatons that people do with jumps are longer, yes, but wrapped, slow, loud and cheated, and in ice skating only one high level competitor wraps, and we're only allowed do do three jumps so the combos dont end up looking like the roller skater. yucky!

  • If you ever find yourself in a situation where you can't afford to ice skate anymore you should consider rollerskating. Its cheaper, better for the envirnment, but you do have to listen to people trash talk your sport without knowing anything about it. Oh and you spend a lot of time "rewatching" this spin being that you hate it and the entire sport it comes from. Admitt it...you love roller skating don't you. You wish you could roller skate every day. Its Okay your not alone.

  • wrong.

have u ice skated b4?? i didn't even know about roller figure skating until about a month ago.

  • You have written this incredibly articulate response to a 12 yr old. (She is an incredibly talented skater on wheels also) The previous "trash talking" seemed to be light hearted until this response. fatskateman has always been informative and good natured. GiGiSk8r doesn't need to be involved with this

  • Sorry got carried away. I won't spout off so freely in the future. I hope I haven't frightened GiGiSk8r away from YouTube or Rollerskating with my irrestraint.

  • oMG thats dangerous

  • oh and also when i watch this spin all i say is o god my eyes r bleeding. please help me and this spin.

  • you should have a Dr. look at that.
