Thanks! Its my understanding that when the green traffic light is flashing its about to turn yellow, but the locals will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong. (We don't have them in NZ either). In BC they also also have yellow flashing lights above the roadway on the approach to an intersection that come on when the light is red. There's still people out there dumb or drunk enough to run the reds though, in spite of all the effort put into road safety...
@thekiwicanuck--The flashing green light is usually indicating a crosswalk. When the button is activated the light will turn yellow----->red---->then back to flashing green. They stay green all the time unless the crosswalk button is activated.
@thekiwicanuck I'm pretty sure that the flashing green light signify's that it's NOT going to turn yellow soon. When it is solid then it means that it's about to go yellow, then red.
@thekiwicanuck Flashing green is always green, accept it is controlled usually by a crosswalk. flashing yellow never changes, it just warns of a cross road that has stop signs, and to watch for cars turning.
OK thanks mate. In spite of the helpful grid system, I was still disoriented most of the time I was in the Lower Mainland, especially at night! I was relying on the ID numbers on the cruisers, which both start with "LA"... By "technically" are we talking 1 metre, 10, or 100?
A flashing green means it's a pedestrian controlled light. The light will not turn unless the pedestrian activates the switch.
A flashing yellow means approach the intersection with caution. Perhaps due to frequent accidents, or blind spots.
A flashing red is a stop and go when safe light.
