Digging into SharePoint 2010 BCS

Chris,

Can this be used as a way to 'bypass' the requirement of using MSSQL Standard if I need to use data that will exceed 4GB? Let's say if I want to use MySQL to 'store' data I am not going to be using often, or if it is legacy data... almost like a tape backup.
