It will run.....richer not leaner..... Dillon read what ya wrote....more air flow means it will dump more fuel....
That will be ok it's when u run leaner u have to worry about cooking a cylinder. Running richer will just hurt gas mileage and cause backfire due to spent fuel burning off....which will add a nice flame outta the pipes.
And if your bike has a lambda in the cat u need to find a nut your lambda can screw into and drill a hole in the midpipe and weld that nut onto the midpipe but if u used the stock midpipe and removed the cat u should b able to just screw your lambda right back in there
Btw map it man it's not good for the rings to run it that lean ur gonna destroy ur bikes power over time riding it that way and u will get a longer better power curve after mapping cuz uve totally screwed up ur air to fuel ratio I mean think about it now u got more air flowing thru but what's tellin ur bike to dump more fuel without the proper map
When u remove the cat it's gonna run a little leaner from more air flowing through and that will create more heat in the cylinders if u don't put a richer air to fuel map but as far as the guy saying doesn't it help keep water out of there a cat makes water when exhaust flows through it that's why when u stand behind a bike with a cat that just started with a cold motor it spits on u bit once it's warm it turns to steam and u won't even know its making water
Put them in my 05 r1 and sounds identical to yours. I did notice though it runs rich and a power commander 5 helps with the popping you get on your decelleration. Also I took out my aic and installed smog block offs. All that gave me monstrous torque, throttle response, and huge low end power gains!
Nice vid man. Sounds sick. I might be buying an R1 soon and if it has stock exhaust on it I will probably end up doing this to save some money. You should take some fly-by/driving vids.
tx lol and well i opened the muffler and the syupid owner that had it before me took the wrapping that its suppose to have can i still install with out the oem wrapping?
To hell with a slip-on! Ordered my Race Baffles today! Wish me luck on the install. How is the ride? Its not extremely to loud is it, especially since you removed the cat
@7132245676 You are not going to loose back pressure. I am not a a bike tech, but been doing some serious research on what exhaust to get for my 06 R1. Removing the cat simply increases the flow of air and will your bike a louder sound. Personally, I would not remove the cat and would just by a replacement Y pipe. If its two loud, you can always put your stock Y pipe with the cat back on. I bought my race baffles today and going to use the stock y pipe for now
I did the same mod on my 06 but I didn't take out the cat converter. It sounds pretty sick with these A&R baffles. Hey r u using power commander? I got ps3 usb and running yosh map.
Since this bike has fuel injection and an electronic management system which the cat is a part of, does the fuel injection work properly when the cat is removed? I mean, how does the overall engine management works without the information supplied by the lambda probe in the cat?
@Module79L the cat. converter doesn't have any device hooked to it to transmit to the computer that it's missing so it will work just find but how ever removing can warp a cylinder or piston it kind of helps remove heat from the engine
i have a leovince exhaust on my R1 without catalyt...just a Y-Pipe...it sounds very angry...and the engine runs better than before...so much powerfull you´ve got to take care...
sounds nice, now i aint gonna compare it to my Ducati 1098, cos you can't compare the 2, or all the others, cos each bike has it own unique sound, but for an R1 that sound like the shit, i was thinking about ordering some race baffles for one of my ninjas.
Sounds Great trying to decide between this and a Graves or 2bros exhaust but when you said about $90 um yea just wanted to know where you bought the baffles? or anything else you need to make it sound nice and deep.
Im not an expert on bikes, but why have you taken the cat. convertor out, i thought that was to stop pollution etc... Im not Green peace or anything, dont worry :)
The other 49 states model bikes don't have catalytic converters. CA has smog regulations. Not having it frees up the flow of exhaust so in theory it does make a performance difference and in my opinion, adds to the sound.
actually ur wrong i live in Colorado and mine also Came with a Cat! Ive wanted to take it out but i was wondering if the check engine lite would turn on or something!
@gayrabbit Stylin7480 is right about the deep sound, but removing the cat will make it louder, but not even near as loud as what the baffles will do. The cat has more effect on the character, making a clearer, less muffled sound, but it will not make it sound as deep as a race baffle kit.
Hey if didn't already know this the catalytic convert could bring you some money just take it to your closest recycling plant. They will probally give you about 70 to 80 dollars for it
yeah cats are REALLY expensive. i know that if a cat from the average car turns bad on you, you're looking at about a thousand bucks for a new one. it takes an insane process to get the platinum that goes into those things.
sounds good, but now its running way too rich cause the air / fuel mix is set for the stock set-up, if you are gonna do this, it's best to get a power commander aswell, unless you have too much money laying around?
way cool! I got an '08 and will try this after my first 600mi break in service. we can always get a set of two brothers or akraprovic within a few days anyway. a few questions please.
1 - rivets, reused or new - any special tools? (not a machinist)
2 - cat, aren't the pipes welded. if not, good. but don't we need bew gasket/flange or something?
3. did you stick the o2 sensor back on that cat hole?
4. if you got a pc III, then can you give me your mapping with no cat?
i did the same thing but cut the screw tabs off and shorted the muffler 2 inches on both sides, then i cut the aftermarket baffles the same amount as i cut from the pipe.. ground the tabs and fill primered it then painted flat black... they tuck up under soo clean and have the awsome sound of the race baffles, just a little louder... and i obviously took out that nasty cat clog junk, haha, awsome video though, 5 stars, check out my video too
go hug a tree and save some whales. You think the exhaust from my bike will have that much affect then the oil companies, power companies and billions of tons of pollution just from LA alone. Keep chaining yourself to that tree until you're blue in the face. Pick your battles.
ive been thinking about getting the baffles for my zx10r, and ive heard from a guy that had these fitted that there was a droning noise, at a certain rpm. (drone; a dull, continued, monotonous humm or buzz) you dont get that sound from yours?

its not a huge difference but they look better and the converter is to reduce heat helps keep from warping a cylinder

how do the baffles stay in place
how did u remove the cat
did u adjust with powercomand cause ur def running ritch now.........

the end caps of the exhaust holds the baffles in place.
I used a chisel to remove the cat
I adjusted the CO setting on the bike which richens the mix.

Sorry to ask but if you take off all the clog junk inside the catalytic coverter. Does it bad for engine or anything else that might effect the Bike?
timmyca85 3 years ago
I like the sound. The cat convertor is there to reduce the levels of NOX, CO, and unburned hydrocarbons (fuel) that is emitted into the environment.

You will have to drill out the old rivets and put new ones on.
it's a lot harder to remove the cat on the 07-08 models. Easier just buying a new y-pipe without a cat.
