  • What year is this?

  • @scoobytonyz It's 2012

  • What coordination! Swings and makes you want to dance..as well as listening to this great ETERNAL SOUND! GOOD MUSIC transcends time, space and place! Good taste in music is a gift (talent) There are musicians, audience and dancers. All three are necessary for appreciation. Peace via Music VIVA MARIA!

  • what a great story in that playing..thumbs up if you agree that this should be on tv everyday :)

  • So Swing ! Oh Yes ! Wonderful ! I love a lot !

  • Simplesmente maravilhoso!!! Não existem palavras que definam a beleza dessa obre de arte

  • The greatest invention to ever come out of the USA is and will always be Jazz. What you are listening to is more than music. This invention is single handedly responsible for allowing the world to appreciate us. It has been our universal representative even in countries that don't like us. All modern music has roots to Jazz whether it be Rock, Rap, Country, etc. Don't just listen to the notes. Understand the origins and how it ties us all together and forever will help us create and innovate.

  • So amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Perfect==Basie's understatement and minimalism with Peterson's maximum piano.

  • I wish i were the piano!

  • @TheFamilyjuls you dirty besterd!!!

  • I had the privilage of going to a special midnight concert of Basie at Ronnie Scott's, for musicians. I am not a musican, but got hold of a ticket. By marvellous chance I was seated just behind Peterson. During the whole the whole concert he hardly took his eyes off Basie. He was just as enthralled as all of us who have lived with Basie.

  • AMAZING!

  • thank you so much for uploading!

  • Man, ain't nobody can deconstruct a solo like the Count--a master, to be sure.

  • i hate watching a video and then seeing dumbasses argue about pointless shit.

  • Gene Gene the dancing machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wonderful new Dick Hyman master class now on youtube. Dick discusses his career and musical concepts, plays two beautiful tunes, and plays duo pianos with NYC jazz piano monster Dave Frank. You will enjoy this! Type in "Dave Frank" Dick Hyman into youtube search.

  • all ad-lib??

  • ... und ab geht die wilde, wilde Lucy!

  • WONDREFUL...............

  • Two Giants

  • Sweet tune

  • Oscar Peterson's style is radically different from that of Count Basie. However, when playing with Basie, Oscar tried to slow down while Basie tried to speed up in order to match up with Oscar. Hence, neither of them actually expressed their uniqueness in this piece.

  • Joe Henderson disliked this because he couldn't jam along.. :D

Cheers to all jazz greats !!

I'm 18 and i only listen to jazz..

  • @EndlessMagic

    Well congratulations you horrible purist.

what does age have to do with anything? Music is timeless!

Only listening to jazz is ignorant, any jazz player will tell you that, dont be proud of only listening to one genre, be ashmed that your musical horizon is so narrow!

  • One of the best known themes from the Big Band era. I had the pleasure of meeting several original Count Basie members.

  • Oscar Peterson is the pride of Canadian Jazz! it was honor to hear him play!

  • man, musicians and music fans can be so stuck up. i like this music, but if someone else choses a different form of music to express themselves, does that make them ignorant? what if we all just start calling each other ignorant for not liking the same type of music?

Count Basie and Oscar Peterson are crazy, especially when together!

  • Wow! 2 favourites in one sitting - well done BBC.

    RIP Oscar P. & Count Basie (^-^)v

    ☆ SilkyWilly ☆

  • jesus, even the drummer is gone now. damn.

  • all but drummer are now deceased.

  • Duke Ellington disliked this video because he sadly wasn't invited.

  • is this genius or wot. words can not describe the brilliance of these two. Magic!

  • Basie, the master of minimalism and Peterson, the master of maximalism (is that a word?) together in one video. Genius x 2.

  • Great drumming from Martin Drew who sadly died a couple of months ago.... R.I.P. Martin

  • These two men are gorgeous

  • Two gentlemen who really know how to tickle the ivories... Absolutely fantastic!

  • Este es para los que los alumns de la prof. Marta Luna aprendan respiración, fraseo, levare. Música de cámara!!!!

  • It really doesn't get any better than this, folks!

I love the polite English audience – nary a toe tappin' that I can see.

  • this is music at its finest

  • Have to wonder if the world will ever see such talent again.

  • When two artists like this plays togehter, somethung special happens. I'm 14, and i appreciate this music more than anything. I even got most of my friends hooked on the Oscar Peterson and Clark Terry song; Mumbles from the album Oscar Peterson Trio+ 1

  • very real music !!! i wish i can see the show

  • very real music !!! bravo

  • Humongous drumming talent, Martin Drew, who sadly passed away this month.

  • Martin Drew - drums (England)

Neils Henning-Orsted Petersen - bass (Denmark)

  • @puujisan

    wohooo DENMARK! :D

  • This is probably the closest I will ever get to seeing Art Tatum and Fats Waller on the same stage at the same time... but this is (more than) close enough.

  • I like the count's little Fats Waller impression at 1:59

  • @IrishDutchman was thinking exactly the same thing

  • That's amazing. We do the Basie Band version in the big band I play in.

  • They've just got that extra bit of magic at their finger tips which gives them that extra..something. Brill.

  • Perfect rythm. :)

Love to see those old jazz musician playing together. Something happens.

  • Fantastic!

  • Brilliant!!

  • true music. the quality of their performance is amazing.

  • why do you even spend your time making stupid comments if you dont even like it?! be quiet, enjoy it or fuck off

  • @undapar1 yes you're right!!

  • @undapar1 word

  • @undapar1 and then another 10

  • @undapar1 At least.

  • Fieryyanks95, it would be fair to say you an ignoramous. For a start, this is music of the 40's, please at least get your insults right before bandying them around. also "ya old geezers", l am 16 and appreciate this form of music as the finest on earth. to echo BuffAlotSoldier, I do not understand why you felt the urge to comment on this video and from this I can deduce that you must be a fairly nasty person. Please go back into your hole, and we can let the music flow!

  • good arguement but you're ruining your experience of this great canuck and great yankee. great tune, if you can find "the Gong Show" special, Harry James blows in n amazing way on this tune. Big Love on the Sunshine coast of canuckville

  • you had better climb out first, i dont think there is space for two. dont bash the music man, all it did was vibrate. ;-)

  • @fieryyanks95 fuck off

  • I hate so sluggish and sleeping audience ! I should be there !!!

Oscar and Count are fabulous !

  • Holy s...!!! I´m not even a jazz-fan, but this is mindblowing! So maybe I just became a jazz-fan anyway:-)

  • JAZZY!

  • If this doesn't get the joint jumpin', I don't know what will!!!

    Thanks for posting!:)

  • The drummer looks so joyful! I guess it doesn't get much better for a professional musician, eh?

  • This is sooo cool!!

  • this is the best one can get!

  • What a Joy!! Watching two of the greatest. The CD they did together, "Satch and Josh" was great, but watching them together is a thrill!

  • Le bonheur absolu...

  • 2 legends of jazz having fun = always a great pleasure :)

  • I love it when piano players look at each other all the time...

  • Just fabulous !!!

  • bellissimo

  • from the dvd "together in concert 1974"?

  • i don't know...maybe

  • @tunikut I dont think it is

  • Basie, OP, NHOP and Martin Drew. What a team!

  • Ahhh Yes. That's Nils-Henning Orsted Pederson on bass.

  • Wow, awsome Is there any way to see the whole show ?

  • an entire night of Oscar Peterson interviews and concerts was shown on BBC4 soon after he passed. This show with Basie, some with Joe Pass, the interview with Andre Previn, and some of the man himself solo and some trio work with Ray Brown, Niels Pedersen and Martin Drew, but I'm sure BBC will show it again some time, they seem to be going through the Jazz and Blues around now.

  • great show..wish that i could see the whole show

  • To see and hear these two truly great gentlemen performing and getting such obvious enjoyment from doing so, is I find, a great emotional experience. I shall return, often. U.Frank.

  • I grew up with these guys, spent more time listening to them than going to school...how lucky I am!
