What coordination! Swings and makes you want to dance..as well as listening to this great ETERNAL SOUND! GOOD MUSIC transcends time, space and place! The greatest invention to ever come out of the USA is and will always be Jazz. What you are listening to is more than music. This invention is single handedly responsible for allowing the world to appreciate us. It has been our universal representative even in countries that don't like us. All modern music has roots to Jazz whether it be Rock, Rap, Country, etc. Don't just listen to the notes. Understand the origins and how it ties us all together and forever will help us create and innovate.
I had the privilage of going to a special midnight concert of Basie at Ronnie Scott's, for musicians. I am not a musican, but got hold of a ticket. By marvellous chance I was seated just behind Peterson. During the whole the whole concert he hardly took his eyes off Basie. He was just as enthralled as all of us who have lived with Basie.
Wonderful new Dick Hyman master class now on youtube. Dick discusses his career and musical concepts, plays two beautiful tunes, and plays duo pianos with NYC jazz piano monster Dave Frank. You will enjoy this! Type in "Dave Frank" Dick Hyman into youtube search.
Oscar Peterson's style is radically different from that of Count Basie. However, when playing with Basie, Oscar tried to slow down while Basie tried to speed up in order to match up with Oscar. Hence, neither of them actually expressed their uniqueness in this piece.
what does age have to do with anything? Music is timeless!
Only listening to jazz is ignorant, any jazz player will tell you that, dont be proud of only listening to one genre, be ashmed that your musical horizon is so narrow!
man, musicians and music fans can be so stuck up. i like this music, but if someone else choses a different form of music to express themselves, does that make them ignorant? what if we all just start calling each other ignorant for not liking the same type of music?
Count Basie and Oscar Peterson are crazy, especially when together!
When two artists like this plays togehter, somethung special happens. I'm 14, and i appreciate this music more than anything. I even got most of my friends hooked on the Oscar Peterson and Clark Terry song; Mumbles from the album Oscar Peterson Trio+ 1
This is probably the closest I will ever get to seeing Art Tatum and Fats Waller on the same stage at the same time... but this is (more than) close enough.
Fieryyanks95, it would be fair to say you an ignoramous. For a start, this is music of the 40's, please at least get your insults right before bandying them around. also "ya old geezers", l am 16 and appreciate this form of music as the finest on earth. to echo BuffAlotSoldier, I do not understand why you felt the urge to comment on this video and from this I can deduce that you must be a fairly nasty person. Please go back into your hole, and we can let the music flow!
good arguement but you're ruining your experience of this great canuck and great yankee. great tune, if you can find "the Gong Show" special, Harry James blows in n amazing way on this tune. Big Love on the Sunshine coast of canuckville
an entire night of Oscar Peterson interviews and concerts was shown on BBC4 soon after he passed. This show with Basie, some with Joe Pass, the interview with Andre Previn, and some of the man himself solo and some trio work with Ray Brown, Niels Pedersen and Martin Drew, but I'm sure BBC will show it again some time, they seem to be going through the Jazz and Blues around now.
To see and hear these two truly great gentlemen performing and getting such obvious enjoyment from doing so, is I find, a great emotional experience. I shall return, often. U.Frank.
